GREAT footage!! Utterly stunning, WOW!!!!.... Just reducing a bit the speed: 18,060 feet long, = 5,504 meters. 5,504 meters passed by in 254 seconds (from 0:15 to 4:29), = 21.67 metrs/sec. 21.67 meters/sec. = 78 kilometers/hour, 78 Km./hour = 48.47 mph., speed in that segment. Greetings from Italy.
@sontungle26412 жыл бұрын
He said in the description is 60 MPH = 90km/h man.
@francescofissore1612 жыл бұрын
@@sontungle2641 in fact, even more (60 mph are actually 96.6 Km/h). However, my calculations are perfect: if it takes 4 minutes 14 seconds to travel 18,060 feet, you're indeed making 48.47 mph.
@raincoast90102 жыл бұрын
Thanks for crunching the numbers!
@paulspomer16 Жыл бұрын
You messed up somewhere because I've seen numerous 60 MPH trains up close and this is definitely at very least 56-58 MPH. I can assure you it is not going 48 MPH.
@francescofissore161 Жыл бұрын
@@paulspomer16 ... however what does count, maths cannot be deceived by anything: 18,060 feet of train passing by in 254 seconds (4 minutes, 14 seconds) give me exactly 71.1 feet per second, wich translates into 48.47 mph. Unless the given data are uncorrect, but that would be a different matter - as for my calculations, they're perfect.

Imagine!! Over three miles of train. The railroads experimented with this concept back in the 1950s. If only the experimenters could see it all now: Locomotives dispersed all through the train being remotely controlled from the one lead engine, Containers that are transferable from flatcars to flatbeds on trucks (Even the U. S. Mail is containerized!!); and, contrary to appearances and popular belief, this is actually more economical than just using one mode of transport alone--trains to carry the containers over the long haul while trucks to make the shorter runs and drop off at more precise locations. Aah, the wonders of science and technology and logistics.

The drawbar calculating on that consist.
@lowercherty3 жыл бұрын
Not that bad for North American couplers and drawbars because of distributed power. The distributed power actually puts some of the train in buff. AAR type E and F couplers are rated around 350,000 pounds of draw or buff. A good casting might get up to 500k pounds. This is about equal to the maximum tractive effort of three 6 axle locomotives. The knuckle is the weakest part because it's relatively easy to change.
