Conns and Martins... beautiful. Very distinctive compared to the French horns. A lovely contrast.

You guys already know this…Dexter Gordon, Gene Ammons, Ike Quebec, Sal Nistico, Charlie Barnet and and many others made some of their greatest recordings on a 10M. I love Gordon throughout his entire career but still enjoy his playing on the 10M just a little more than the VI. And the great Lester Young preferred Conn tenors..New Wonder, Transitional's and later the 10M. And of course Leon Chu Berry… I also prefer today’s Troy Robert’s sound a little more when he was playing a Conn. Sax sections that have a mix of horns, Conns, Kings and good Selmers etc also sound richer imo. Conns are perfect for some players just as Selmers are for others. You definitely do the 10M justice here !

Jake, you played it beautifully. That sound is why many of us became saxophonists in the first place. I have a 10M, 280XXX series from 1941. It took a number of years to get it into playing shape but when I play it now the responses are ”OMG”. The 10M was also played by Eddie Miller (Bob Crosby Bobcats), Sal Nistico (Woody Herman bann Band), and, I believe, even Wayne Shorter. Thanks for the video.

I just bought my 10m. It is from 1963 and has the underneck octave. It has nickle plated keys which are cloudy but the horn really plays well with a great sound. I play on gigs my Selmer sa80 series 2 but I really could play the Conn anytime in place of the selmer. Thanks for your review. You are a spectacular sax player.

from jake: "larger mouthpiece openings often get in the way of finding the balanced sound between you and your horn... plenty of projection comes from the instrument itself, to which softer tones can speak louder than others!" thanks for watching... we hope you find the right setup soon!

Great indeed.. are not the right words. Sounds just awesome! But I noted and think that the neck is of Conn 16M. I wonder, what reed did you use? I am also the Conn lover :) My 10M Naked Lady of about 1958 year production, s : something 7 hundreds...I play Link STM 7* and Vandoren ZZ reeds, but just bought Florida STM 6*. haven't try it yet. Hope it will be better :) let see..

thanks for sharing! yes, it is a 16M neck on this particular 10M - that was a part of the owner's preference in setup. jake is known to play "Blue Box 3's" -- but can't say for sure. we hope this helps!

I've been told - mostly by old New York players - that you can't really get around on a 10M. I think they meant with scales, arpeggios, and a metronome, rather than just blowin'.

Just a quick fwiw point and a comment. Then as a background I have a 1941 10M, 1937 6M, and a 1925 Soprano. Not sure you mentioned it, or if that model still has this, but I swear the forked Eb (when it's working) adds a little extra special sauce to the tone, and/or makes things easier or more quirky in altissimo. I realize later that this was removed, but I keep seeing comments of "open up the Eb to give the note better venting" for some notes to think that this makes no difference what so ever. Somehow someway I ended up with a 3* Florida Double Ring Link way back 25 years ago in high school. Granted it's way different than modern mouthpieces, and I need to get proper reeds for it now that I'm playing again. My Theo Wanne Gaia 4 7* is great, don't get me wrong, but that old Link has this great low end to it and tone. Thankfully though Retro Revival makes great copies, so someone doesn't need to go out and track down a vintage one.
