7 ай бұрынBass Tom Kinniburgh tells of a group of Somerset folk, visiting London to see a military revue. Proud of their county, proud to be British & proud to be subjects of King George V. Mary however is overcome by shyness, being the namesake of the then Queen! The song was written around 1913 (lyrics available on the 'net) but the record label is mid 1920's.

I do have some rough ones, but tend only to post those with discernable lyrics. Two other things add to the lack of noise: 1) I always use soft tone needles. 2) Older gramophones & their soundboxex aren't big on treble (where most of the hiss is). This isn't really a problem, because early recordings were weak on treble response anyway.

@@tiga4180 Rough doesn't begin to describe some of my 78s. Five years ago I bought thousands from EBay dealers in lots of 25, and you take what you get. If you're dealing with a reputable seller, condition can be better than fair. OTOH, I've gotten the shaft a few times.

I have this on a different label with a different flip side, I can't remember the label or song at the moment but when I have it out again I'll reply to the comment here. I also have Stanley Kirkby and Malcolm McEachern singing it. There's a John Buckley version with piano accompaniment which I've been trying to find but I haven't been able to yet.

Can well imagine those two singing it. It was your posting of Sonecracker John, which prompted me to post this record, which has that song on the flipside.
