Update on Bergara B-14R for NLR22 After 2K Rounds Fired

I wanted to provide a quick update after shooting approximately 2,000 rounds through my Bergara B-14R, primarily during NRL22 competition and practice.

I put together a cz 453 over a decade ago as a trainer. I am interested I NRL.22 and the Bergara looks interesting. Thanks for your time and content.

I have one and have well over 1,000 rounds through mine and have the same reliability with the exception no FTE on mine. I am left eye dominate and had a left hand preordered several weeks before Bergara announced them through my LGS and can’t wait.

Nothing wrong with your scope height my friend I have mine high on my Bergara with 20moa pic rail and high Tierone mounts it’s a lot more comfortable like you say if you have adjustable cheek piece no problem 👍

My B14R is also wearing an Arken (EP5) and currently sits in a KRG Bravo. I have an MPA BA Comp sitting around that I might throw it into after seeing this.

Did you gain any accuracy or consistency by changing to the MPA stock vs the HMR?? A side note, I have the b14 r and have about a 6% failure to eject out of 1200 rounds. In saying that bergara answered my email within a day and have mentioned the have manufactured an upgraded ejection post specifically for this problem. Here in Australia it will take 2 months to arrive give or take. For me using match ammo the best 3 groups I have achieved have been .4 of an inch @50m and the normal or average being .7 inch @50m and 1.3 @ 100m So I've seen better accuracy with friends stock tikka t1x out of the box.

I never actually shot this rifle in it's stock configuration. I put it into the mpa the first day they I had it because I knew I wanted the chassis. With your ejection issue, have you tried staking the ejector? That fixed mine

Did you have to do anything special to get the bergara mag to worin the MPA chassis? Thinking about putting mine in a chassis.

I've had mine in 3 different MPA chassis, all have worked perfectly with the factory mags

Is your rifle the carbon fiber barrel? I picked up a carbon model awhile back and it seems to shoot a few different rounds very well. I haven’t gotten a ton of rounds through it yet but so far seems to be a great gun! Yours is pretty nice looking setup thanks for the update video!👍

It's the steel. I wanted the extra weight for balance

I’ve heard some say they thought the steel barrels were getting better performance. Of course I was early and had to have the carbon fiber barrel because of course they’re always better 🤣🤣! But I’m not so sure, I mean it shoots good, but I guess I’d hoped for a bit better. Now it’s 1” or less usually with good ammunition but I feel like the steel barrel would be better. I think at some point I will get a new barrel for it.

It's veterinarian bandage wrap from the local farm supply store. Can also get from Amazon. Good luck and keep in touch!! You'll love it!

I have a Bergara b14 r carbon. I'm having cleaning issues. Seems to get very dirty with Eley Match. Any cleaning recommendations

Just curious if you've tried a variety of ammo? Some is just really dirty. Mine gets pretty bad but I really only need to clean it every 500 rounds or so to remove the carbon ring in the barrel.

@@darrondb thanks for the response. I’m currently building my barreled action with an ICD (Indian creek designs) chassis. Wanted to try to grab the original stock somehow if I could, but Bergara wants chassis prices for it 😂 so I went another route.

Would the rifle be competitive in the OE polymer stock until I could find a chassis or does it really need to be switched over to a chassis right away ?

The factory stock has a built in aluminum mini chassis and is perfectly acceptable. I just prefer a chassis

@@darrondb so since you (like me) are believer in buying used, I have to ask. Is the stock that yours came in just sitting around and "for sale" since you switched over to a chassis ? I wouldn't mind buying a barreled action and getting a "used" stock for it, I'm really impressed with that rifle.

@@darrondb I am planning on shooting my first nrl22 match this Month at Great Plains and all I have for now is an RPR so I'm glad you didn't just absolutely "trash" it, LOL I'm already self conscious about shooting in a competition and that would have made it worse. :-)

I get that on a regular basis with my Bergara shooting SKs I wonder if the cartridges are to slippery when extracting them and the bolt can't grab them I loaded two full sets of Rifle Match but wiped the cartridge first over a cloth and bingo no problem Just a thought if you are in a hurry to shoot

How much better is the Bergara compare to the Ruger Precision?

It's hard to quantify, but I will say the Bergara is much more consistent

I own both and I have to give the Bergara the overall win. The stock on the B14r is far more rigid and helps with tighter grouping over the flexible rear in the RPRR which has caused groups to open up with changes in cheek pressure. Both shoot amazing when I do my part but with the Ruger I have to be mindful of how much pressure I place on the rear stock as groups will open up considerably. For twice the price the Bergara is twice the rifle in my opinion

@@darrondb I’m patiently waiting for someone to make an aluminium rear stock for the Ruger Precision Rimfire! I have a 20” stainless match barrel on mine and it shoots lights out with SK and Lapua ammo but that flimsy rear stock just kills it for me. If it was aluminum rear instead of plastic it would be a while different rifle!!
