I made these videos to document my experience eating a diet termed the “Lion Diet” by Mikhaila Peterson, daughter of Jordan Peterson who introduced this diet to my thinking. Lion Diet a strict version of the Carnivore diet that only allows for ruminant meat, salt, and water. I am not a nutrition expert or doctor, but I hope you will find my story enjoyable and informational just the same.

It seems there are a number of things like iodine and vitamin D where the RDA that doctors would give you is basically JUST enough to keep you alive, but definitely not enough to keep you healthy. Which makes sense considering "healthcare" is a business, they want to keep you alive but chronically ill so they can have a customer for life.

just started taking Lugols after doing some research,,, one thing I came across is being aware of the non-medicinal ingredients in some products. Iodiol tablets for example have polysorbate 80 and a few other things I try to avoid...just saying it's good practice to read the whole label if your working to improve your health..switching to a carnivore diet I have seen huge improvements in reduction of joint inflammation and stiffness.

I’ve experienced the same thing since adding iodine! I can’t stop singing it’s praises! Even add it to my daughter’s water. I can tell when I’ve gone too many days without it I begin to feel “off”. , im paying attention to how i feel just incase. I was taking “too much” as per bottle instructions cause I didn’t read the bottle properly but the only thing I felt was great! Thank you for sharing your experience and informing people about its benefits 🙌🙌🙌

Good job. I went through the same process. Started at 1mg/day and ramped up to 20mg per day Lugols. Brain fog went away. But clarity and energy way up. One danged is if you have thyroid nodules that are 'hot' that express thyroid hormones uncontrollably. Although rare. If you have neg effect with a small dose stop and see a naturopath. Iodine is water soluble so what your body doesn't need you urinate. Since iodine at higher levels can detox the body of mercury, lead, chlorine, bromide, fluoride if you do it too fast you get a flu like system.

FYI, 1 drop of 2% Lugol’s solution has 2.5 mg of iodine from combined sources. I’m noticing a lot of KZfaqrs are mixed up about this. While the RDA is only ~250 micrograms (0.250 mg), no RDA values are considered OPTIMAL quantities. In other words, we’ll all do better with more. Dr. Elizabeth Bright and Dr. David Brownstein say they don’t see results in their patients (diagnosed with hypothyroidism) until they reach a MINIMUM of 25 milligrams per day. Some people complain of feeling bad at first (it goes away and is suspected of being fluoride- and bromide-dumping). I started with 1 drop of 2% Lugol’s solution a few months ago for a week. I stayed at 2 drops for a couple of months and have slowly increased to 4 drops/day (10 mg). So far I have experienced ZERO side effects, my feet don’t get cold at night, and my hands don’t feel as dry. *I’m not a doctor, so don’t take this as medical advice. I’m sure individual results will vary. Dr. Bright says the additional minerals needed (e.g. selenium) are found in meat. Iodine doesn’t accumulate in the body. Excess leaves via urination. Best wishes. 😊

Avoid iodine supplementation ! It will throw you into iodine -induced hypothyroidism, and you will regret it sorely. The larger the dose, the worse the symptoms and the longer the recovery period. You will feel great initially, but as you become iodine sufficient and beyond, your thyroid will shut down as a protective mechanism until you stop the supplementing. You will be exhausted for weeks or months.

Carnivore just over 2.5 yrs now and started to test the drops a while ago and so far nothing I can notice so might up from 3-4 drops to some more other sups I have taken to see I get no reaction to ? I do think the most important thing is to test things we want to do and find our individual optimum results and what works for us ! I had watched the other videos by a few folks and do want to play with some other levels just one step at a time for me :) For me never did electrolytes when starting and did finally test them in at around 2yrs not sure it made any difference :) not saying they wont for some could just be salt levels I use that balance etc. but plan to test those again also Point being try these things :) The patreon confusion cracked me up in a good way :) at 59 I am insane tech savy but yeah some things these days I just shake my head at and realize just way to much to absorb sometimes with new stuff

I'm learning a lot from your channel... what are your thoughts on nose-to-tail eating... consuming more organ meats?
@FerrignoFreedom
@FerrignoFreedom Жыл бұрын
Check out my video on the Grass Fed Deep Dive. When I started eating those to tail, I learned that I love liver and it gives me energy like a power pellet on Pac-Man, but haven’t been able to bring myself to cook kidneys or tongue yet. I also love the beef heart from Carnivore Crisps. And I’ve had all the organs ground up into the burger meat, and loved it. I don’t think it’s a necessary approach, but if I can maintain it I don’t mind. I like the idea of knowing a little about the animal I am eating, that it was raised regeneratively, and I like knowing several hundred pounds of the meat I’m going to eat in a 3rd of a year came from one animal, but that like is not grounded in reason. It just feels right. It shows an appreciation for the sacrifice the animal made to use it all. As for how healthy it is I would be speculating as much as everyone else is about organ meat.

Maybe it's the immune system using the iodine to get rid of the crap in your skin layers? I know some naturopathy does this. We must remember to support the skin layers with oil sometimes. Not just clean it away sterilizing as the natural oil is a defense layer. Something like this I was told. These 'proactive' products that sterilise can cause problems. Not that I'm saying you use them but people should know perhaps not to.

The iodine forces the other halogens (fluoride, bromide) out of your thyroid, that's what you're reacting to. To get rid of the you need to take some detox agent at the same time (not sure if a chelating agent or something else works best).

Dante there is no controversy on recommended dose of Iodine. The recommended doses are 150 (men) to 300 (women). But most people forget that their are other sources of Iodine taken by people. For women - beauty products have a lot of Iodine. In foods, rich with Iodine - seaweed, fish and shellfish, iodized salt, dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt), eggs, beef liver, chicken , etc. So the recommendation by most credible Doctors is to watch the amount you take in supplementation form and combine the measure with what you eat naturally and don't let you exceed the recommended amount.
@sydneybird116
@sydneybird116 4 ай бұрын
The "recommended" amount is the bare minimum to prevent goiter on the diet that people ate in 1900, not for optimal health, per the author of the book referenced in the video. 25mg is a good supplemental amount if you don't have disease symptoms.

@@FerrignoFreedom as for a true "root cause" like you have in manufacturing (think you said you worked in manufacturing) 5 why chart or 8D methods, or Toyota production system root cause..... Edward Deming root cause practices don't exist for 1 human/ 1 individual case. Plus you wouldn't want to spend the $2.3 million dollars and time to try to discover the actual root cause. Even after the money and time, it would be an n=1 so your doctor would not have statistical certainty. To perform a prostate enlargement study, we would need people who wanted to enlarge their prostate. That would be difficult. Your doctor must have been scared you were a Google research jejeje jejeje, he should have just told you he doesn't know and No doctor on the planet knows your specific root cause, only rough guess. @BaresarkSlayne
@BaresarkSlayne Жыл бұрын
@@DrAJ_LatinAmerica I'll be honest, all of that doesn't mean anything. A doctor can have a list of common root causes for a specific symptom. If you go to a mechanic and say there is a black puddle under your car, he will give you a common cause for this (oil leak from pan, oil leak from valve cover gasket). He would then look into your specific case of oil leaking check to see what it is, then he will fix it. In a person, this would look like trying different treatments for those root causes. For example, if there was a treatment to reduce swelling in the prostate that was non-invasive, he would try it. If that didn't work, he would move onto the next thing, usually moving up in the hierarchy in terms of cost and invasiveness. It's not a question of whether that doctor in that instant knows the exact root cause for Dante. If the world followed your logic, we wouldn't solve any problems at all.

Just a cautionary tale. A medication I was taking caused hyperthyroidism for me. My endocrinologist prescribed Lugol's solution after the usual meds didn't bring my thyroid down. The Lugol's worked and my thyroid function returned to normal levels. So what am I saying? I'm saying to be careful with iodine because at a certain level it will suppress your thyroid function.

I will. As a matter of fact, the purpose of this video was to point out that I am watching for symptoms of anything on the concern list. I encourage everyone to be diligent to monitor how any changes people make effect them.

I wonder about taurine. It helps maintain and balance minerals in the body. Your body might need less iodine, as long as your taurine intake is higher. You might easily overdose on iodine with taurine.

If you ate salt water fish every day for every meal you would be less than 1mg iodine per day. Different seaweeds would be good. Most salt water fish farm raised, no iodine.

I used to love shellfish, but when I started on Lion diet for the ruminants I was abstaining from shellfish. Then I researched the “clean” foods concept in the Bible and realized most shellfish are basically big bugs or filters so I’ve been fine without them since (not for religious reasons, just thinking the guidelines were meant for our good in general). When I started looking for natural ways to get iodine I decided to give them another go. I tried some shrimp and scallops when I was visiting with family last month, and no issues. I just can’t afford seafood right now. I am allergic to fish (but not shellfish) so everything I like is real pricey: clams, oysters, mussels, crab, lobster, shrimp are all old favorites, just not great on the wallet.

No, it’s still in refined table salt, but it’s not as bioavailable, and refined salt is stripped of other necessary trace elements. It was a good enough plan to prevent proliferation of goiter, but not to avoid iodine deficiency in general.

@darciisabella
@darciisabella 11 ай бұрын
I know this video/comment is old but just watching it for the first time now. The tired feeling is a detox symptom and eventually subsides which you probably discovered. Dr. Brownstein's book lists all the detox symptoms and it's quite long.

Late comment, but yes, it threw me into hypothyroidism. Fit, active person to not being able to complete a work day. It wasn't detox symptoms. That's the cop out reason people give for what really happens, which is iodine-induced hypothyroidism. It doesnt occur immediately, but occurs after few to several weeks, or even after a week or so, depending on how heavy your dose is. Severe fatigue, lightheadedness, extremely coarse dry skin, hoarse voice etc. It isnt worth it. It's best to remove the competitors of iodine, such as fluoride (filter you water with fluoride filter), bromide products. Then eat seafood regularly. Fish, mackerel, sardines etc. You'll be good doing that, without having to worry.

@@livelife5890 I've been supplementing with iodine for years and the detox symptoms only lasted a few weeks. The test for hypo often shows high when going through detox which an iodine practitioner will explain. I've actually had the opposite results and went from dry skin to normal and you would need to eat 4 lbs. of seafood a day to maintain healthy iodine levels. To the original commenter: I suggest doing your own research since we all have different experiences. Wishing you both excellent health!

Please be careful with the iodine, hypothyroid and Hashimoto's forums are full of people who developed terrible thyroid problems after being a bit liberal with the iodine. Please keep getting your levels checked to make sure you're not doing the same.

One cup of whole milk has approximately 85mg of iodine, so you could add two or three cups (measured, not just some random cup you have on-hand) to get all the daily iodine you need in a day for roughly 150 calories per cup, so 150x3 cups would be 450 calories max. Your body can likely upregulate metabolism to prevent any weight gain if you are already healthy and active. Just don't go sucking down tons of milk or you will add bodyfat like one of your other video experiments - where you reported that you were drinking a lot of it and were surprised at gaining so much weight. I find this to be one excellent reason to approach diet as "animal-based" rather than carnivore "meat only."
