Let us know your feedback on this new test. It is starting in 2 weeks, so we still have time to make some adjustments to the test conditions. Test #1 will continue to run concurrently to monitor the overall degradation over a long period of time. Also, sorry for the bad sound quality on this video. Our lab is currently in renovation and the sound treatment isn't completed yet.

Rtings.com can you do a test on a 5ghz internet network on the lg c7? I have had 2 lg c7’s and when in a 5ghz network, if I turn the tv off then on again after a couple hours I would only get 2mbps but when I disconnect and reconnect the internet I’d get 355 mbps. This only happens on my lg c7. Not my wallpaper, and not on my macbooks or iPhone.

Rtings.com shouldn’t you give the screen a little more time to rest? I believe the screen cleaner/pixel refresher/compensation cycle takes at least an hour to run and the screen has to be off for a couple hours for it to automatically start. Are you going to initiate the cycle manually?

I'm very interested to know what would happen if the OLED light is set to an appropriate level for a dark room - say, 30 or 35 where, by your own testing, the automatic brightness limiter doesn't even kick in to any great extent. Not everyone runs their TV in a bright room setting mode. Those of us who make the effort to dim our viewing environment and follow the 100-120 nit peak brightness standard for SDR would like to know if OLED burn-in will occur under those conditions.

You should do a mixed usage. Those patterns are still too static. If you play video games, time to time (after 10-20.. mins when game over) have to go to the menus/lobby for set up a new game, so the picture change for a while. Most of the TV channels have commercial breaks time to time which again change the sports static score boards/logos and sports have half time breaks. Many people use their TV for mixed usage, not just for one. On weekend I usually watch 1-2 football game (1.5-3 hours), after I watch the 6 o'clock news (1 hour) and at evening watch a movie or play a video game (1-2 hours) or sometimes just leave any other channels on the TV. So In my opinion you should put a "different content" time to time to the patterns like 1-5-10 mins in each 1-2-3 hour...to refresh the pricure, like in real life.

New B6 owner from Montreal, love what you do! Can't wait to see the results on the six OLED TVs as I'm very worried with Image Retention and setting OLED Light at 100. I was wondering if there's a way you could run a daily/weekly "Clear Panel Noise" on one of the TVs? I wish I could stop being extra-careful with mine and simply use this feature on a regular basis. How much can we rely on it, is it a lifesaver? Thank you so much for your reviews, it makes shopping TVs very easy!

Not everyone. I've seen OLED fanboys on KZfaq say and do all they can to try and assure people that OLED's don't suffer burn in. Even when people comment saying thier OLED got burn in the fanboys try and deny it ever happens. They will be watching this video fingers, arms and legs crossed hoping there is no burn in. lol

Excellent choices guys, best burn-in test I've seen. Thanks for giving it another try. I personally saw severe image retention on an OLED from 2016, running the same 3 minute demo for 11 hours a day, 7 days a week. The panel was mostly fine, but a clear image of the brand's logo was burned into the middle of the screen. I can't wait to see the results with more realistic usage!

In fact I'm more worried about poor near blacks than image retention in OLEDs. I hope you guys consider some detailed assessment of the near black issues in OLEDs. In any case this about image retention is one very exhaustive test you guys are doing. If I could think of anything to mention, it would be that all OLEDs being tested here are from LG, but I know all the other brands offering OLED use LG panels in the end, so no issue. Only looking forward to your updates and the evolution of the results. Great job, well done guys! PS. Please consider evaluating the quality of near blacks in OLED. Perfect blacks are kind of pointless to some extent when everything near black might look terribly posterized/with bad uniformity issues

3 things. First, you guys are awesome for going to such great lengths for consumers. Second, if people have their t.v. on for 20 hours a day they need to reevaluate their entire lives. Third, I have an LG OLED B6 that I've watched hours of football, played games like madden and nba live that have static images, and tons of other content and have had no issues. As mentioned in another comment, LG has a screen saver that comes on after a few mins of no activity to avoid burn in. I've had the tv for 8 months and will probably buy another one in the future. You can't beat the range of color and true blacks that these tv's produce. Simply amazing. Thanks for the great video 👍

Impressive test! If I can give my opinion, I would suggest to use one of those oleds to do a more real life test: 5 hours of fifa+1 hour off 5 hours of video with no logo (to simulate a netflix use)+1 hour off 5 hours of broadcast tv with logo+1 hour off I think this kind oh test could reflect a more real life scenario, since probably most of the people will not watch the same content all day. Anyway thank you for doing these unique tests!!! Nobody else is giving us these useful informations.

Well the irony is that anyone mentioning burn-in on an OLED is fundamentally wrong. It isn't burn in. It is burn OUT. AKA the subpixel cannot produce the same luminance value as previously capable.

I got the LG OLED C7V in 65” and I play a lot of games on my Xbox One X. I got absolutely no BI issues at all. The key is - I like to play most of my games with no HUD because it’s much more immersive. I tell you graphics in 4K looks like I’m playing games on my high end PC. It’s simply stunning. And with only 21ms. input lag the LG C7V is great for gaming.

GRATZ and THANK YOU for being the only site taking the Burn-in/IR issue seriously enough to make a long-term test. The "torture" test results speak for themselves. Really fed up of reviewers stating that this is a non-issue for OLED despite what some users are posting in the forums. I´m really looking forward to the results under "normal" conditions, as I do use my TV also as a PC monitor and this issue has stopped me from buying an OLED despite it´s superior image quality.

Nice, TY for your feedback. I've read that the 2017 models suffer less from IR/BI than previous ones, I guess this new test will give more insight as it will be done with the 2017 models. I'm really looking forward into this being a non-important issue, I love how OLED looks compared to LED. Too bad the new 2018 models still don't have the HDMI 2.1 included, for future 4K@120HZ gaming * drools *

As a owner of a 2016 LG OLED (65E6P) television I can confirm that turning the OLED LIGHT down to about 40 does mitigate most burn in scenarios. This allows me to play video games with HUD elements and static content. I would like to see you guys run a test with that in mind on the 2017 models. So perhaps a 7th TV with CNN at 40 OLED LIGHT.

Hi guys, I strongly suggest watching content with letterboxes. I've noticed that I'm getting burn-ins from those, but mostly on top. I have the OLED65B7P and since the bottom part is darker, I'm assuming LG did this intentionally to prevent burn ins from logos like CNN etc, I don't get the bottom letterbox rectangle burnt in. I have to do the Pixel Refresh process at least twice so it eliminates this almost completely. Then a little bit of Call of Duty WW2, and it's gone eventually. FYI, since your testing this on Fifa and Call of duty, these are 2 games where I constantly see the vertical and horizontal banding which are known issues for these OLED models. In Fifa it's bad as the soccer field's grass lines is always panning left to right and vice versa. In Call of Duty WW2, if you play the prologue zombies game, this is where you see all the lines for all the banding on this TV model. I appreciate these videos and taking the time to this these things. Merci Cédric!!! thanks to the whole team at RTING.COM

Its not burned it watch a letterbox movie and then 5-10 minutes fullscreen and then turn it off, then it will be fine. Its an firmware bug but LG dont fix it (maybe they wont) i have an EC930 and the same issue so i did some testing. They cant "burn" it because the pixels are 100 % shutdown. Its only the algorithm which fucks that part up.

You must have a bad display. I’ve had a B7 for 10 months and a G7 for 3 months and I use both quite heavily and each have been professionally calibrated, all I’ve ever gotten is slight image retention that goes away by watching or playing something for a few (specifically Xbox one dashboard tiles) I have 2 other friends with 2017 OLEDs and they’ve never had burn in?

Jason A. S. Yeah honestly I traded my oled for a high quality led tv instead. It bothered me that I knew I was causing burn in anytime there was a static part of the panel! I literally ended up using the tv less because of it. Now I can leave the tv on accidentally on a single channel or use it for my htpc without worrying about the taskbar being burnt in to the panel

Subscribed!! Awesome idea. I am huge fan of oled technology. Using phones only with oled screens. I never had any burn in issue. But TV is different story altogether. I think burn in on TV would be limited to labs or experiment. If you change channel for even one min per hour and change channel for different reasons (that is more likely in real life usage) you won't see any burnin. I would like to suggest 1) put atleast one tv in your office or home where people change channel frequently. 2) Design one micro controlled to change channel every 2 hours (movie lenght).

I HAVE SUBSCRIBED JUST TO FOLLOW THIS OLED BURN-IN TEST. Good work guys. Much Appreciated for your hard work and real world results. Also, if you could simulate PC Web browsing usage, that will be a great addition to your TV tests - E.G Static Chrome tabs or Windows task bar burn-in.

You just got my subscription. I’ll be fascinated with these results - in part because I’ve just bought my own B7 (65 inch) just before Christmas, and as a fan of F1 racing, movies and gaming your results may be indicative of what’s ahead. The only thing I would suggest though is more and more gamers will be playing in HDR which will, if set up correctly, increase the OLED backlight to 100%. So a 60% backlight setting may be kinder than the reality?

I severely burned-in an LCD TV even though that’s not supposed to be possible. Usage patterns are so important! In my case I think the mounting position and my climate allowed the panel to overheat and made pixels highly vulnerable to permanent change even with quite short periods of displaying white.

I can only imagine how much work you guys put into these tests. Much much appreciated. My only suggestion is splitting the set up into 3 LGs and 3 Sony A1Es. Sony claims that their oled TVs burn in less than LG.

So much scare mongering in the industry over oled tvs. Great to see some extensive testing to objectively show what the case is. (I have a LG B6 OLED I recently bought and love it - have no problems what so ever) I haven't seen any after images either which used to bug me about plasma tvs

I was on the fence for months about OLED. Was certain I was going to buy a B7. I believe here on rtings they give the B7 a score of 1.2 out of 10 for image retention and burn in. At the last minute I decided against the B7 and went with the sony x900e on December 27th. Maybe in a few years I'll go OLED. We'll see how the technology improves. I've been more than happy with my Sony LCD so far.

Love this, I definitely want an OLED tv but burn in is my worry, as I play video games with HUDs, watch news & sports with a HUD as well. Still hoping for a micro LED 4k TV in the near future, that would have great color spectrum, response rate & no burn in issues

Is this content in HDR? I'm wondering if the extra brightness (especially on HUD elements) would cause more degredation than SD content. Your control test w/ TV's 1+2 indirectly addresses this, but I'm mostly just curious if you're using HDR content (cod WW2 is available in HDR, so if not, why not?) Also did you use the pixel refresher to verify that that isn't just temporary image retention? Great tests though guys. You're generating invaluable consumer information, and we should all thank you for it.. Cause I wasn't about to buy 5 more c7s to do it myself!

If you simply want the best picture quality then get an OLED and take care of it. If you are okay with a slightly lower quality picture in order to avoid burn in, then get a QLED

Great test! I hope in games, you include at least few percent of other content like menus, windows desktop / console menus, lobby, etc. Not just the gameplay itself.

I’m doing the exact same test with my new (not so new now) OLED B7 and with this I wanna say that this is a super real life test 😂😂 and I really don’t know if I wanna see the results or I just turn on my TV and put a solid color test 😂😂 you are the best guys, and I’m afraid cause the retention is worst in the B7 than in the C7 😰

I have a B6P with 14k hours and no burn in. I have only seen screen retention one time when using Hulu the gray back round had a slight image then quickly vanished. I gamed on it bout 6-7 k hours no issues as of yet. And I just picked up a c7p and I am not worried one bit about burn in

Been using my c6 oled primarily for gaming for the last year and half with no burn in, or any other issues whatsoever! And I have hundreds of hours on games like witcher 3 and cod. What I do get is massive wow factor everytime I turn on the TV and looking at eye watering games that no other display can match honesty, especially when that hdr comes on (horizon zero dawn).. The only, and I mean the only thing that I would change is have more hdmi ports, that's all really!

This is exactly why I went Sony 930E over the LG C7 - I game. A LOT. Didn't want to worry about any amount of burn-in on screen. 930E looks pretty amazing, even in a dark room.

i have seen a comment where the user reported the shadow outline of a head and shoulders in the center of the screen. Also there is another open box unit that displays burn in of LG's own screen saver images. So even repetitive images as in LG's screen saver can degrade pixels as well.

Well done. This will really help me determine either buying the OLED or Sony 900E since I am looking for high quality HDR functionality for both gaming and HDR 4k content.

Could you test a method I've seen used on mobile phones to "fix" burn in by letting it display a negative image for a long time "inverting" the damage. You could use the old TVs from the previous test and see if the damage could be "undone". I know that what it is actually doing is burning in the remaining pixels, but i'dd rather have a more even picture than a permanent watermark.
