A pacemaker is not disqualifying if that is the only problem. You will need clearance from your cardiologist before the DOT exam, if your heart disease is otherwise compensated you should be able to be cleared to drive.

Hi doctor moony. That question I believe all truck drivers have is, can you still have and maintain our CDL with a diagnose of sleep apnea.. Or will we lose it. Thank you

Mooney, I have been driving over 25 years and been on Alprazolam 1 mg three times a day and also Lorazepam 1 mg three times a day would this disqualify me to get resertifide in getting my cdl renewal and passing my physical my regular doctor always passed me and now his not doing the DOT physicals he always told me that he would right out a letter approving I am ok driving know he says he wouldnt because of liability so what do you think

And what is the cost of the course to Physicians to become registered ? A LOT ! That is why so many doctors who used to give DOT physicals said F/O and quit giving the physicals. It's not about crashes its about Big Money for the Sleep Industry.

Hi doctor, I got a question for you, I am 18 years old and its been my dream to become a truck driver, I was born with a heart disease and been treated for it when I was 9 years old, now I have a pacemaker, will I still qualify for the DOT Medical Exam even know I have a pacemaker and Heart disease from the past. 60% of drivers are going to lose their jobs....lol USA transportation industry is gonna get crippled. Trucking companies are going to start hiring homeless people just to get drivers when this happens. What these doctors fail to be informed is that, trucking companies dont give a crap about their drivers and they only care about the load being transported. If your truck breaks down, the driver is left in the middle of nowhere while the company picks up the truck. then treats that driver horrible by not trying to help them either get home or get into another truck to continue to transport goods and earn a living. Also, what these doctors dont know is that by DOT regulations, it states that any driver that was in any accident for any reason whether it was their fault or not, even with no fault report by the police department incident report. DOT regulation requires the trucking company to immediately permanently terminate the driver. Thats right folks, drivers lose their jobs for being in an accident even if it was not their fault. - And the starting fine for being part of a accident is $2,500 up to $20,000 and possible imprisonment. hence the reason why 90% of the drivers in this industry are new drivers. and all the experienced drivers with 10-yrs or more experience are no longer on the road. we will see what will happen in the next 5 years to this transportation goods industry. IMHO - the next drivers transporting across USA will be from Canada Companies.... Most USA trucking transport companies will move their HQ to Canada to avoid these new rules.

I have to say this, sleep apnea should be tested for everyone including car drivers so it's fair when you when you take a driver's living away because you think they are fat. Are you checking doctors that do 24 hour shifts should we take their job or license away if they don't get a " sleep study "? Seems you target us as we are are the dirt on the bottom of a shoe.
