UPDATED FOR THE SILENCE & THE FURY DLC - Ikit Claw first 10 turns guide in less than 5 minutes. This is on Very Hard difficulty on the Mortal Empires campaign. While it is on VH, this guide works well for all other difficulties, including legendary. Set your campaign up right with this quick guide on how to handle your early game.
Ikit is a very strong lord with a strong focus on weapons teams and other 'marvels' of skaven engineering. Ikit's is ideal for those who prefer a defensive play style in battles due to his incredible ranged capabilities. Most armies won't be able to make it close to you, let alone do some damage.

Good guide, but I disagree with your expansion recommendations. I generally try to take over Tilea, then Sartosa. After that, I head north, taking control of The Vaults, Black Mountains and finally the Eastern Border Provinces. I mostly ignore Estalia, except to sack/raid Tobaro each turn and building an under-city there (Scavenger Horde, Under-Keep, Kill-Perches, Deeper Tunnels). This gives you 12 provinces under your control, along with one Under City. Tilea gives you 2 ports and a pasture (+6 food/turn). Sartosa gives you a port, several trade goods and two useful landmarks. The Vaults has a landmark in Karak Izor that greatly improves your weapons teams, and even more trade goods from Karak Bhufdar. Black Mountain gives you iron to trade, and more importantly pastures (+6 food/turn). Eastern Border Princes is even better, with a port, salt to trade and another pasture (+6 food/turn). The three pastures you control will give you +18 food/turn, along with +3 food/turn from the under-city, +6 food/turn from the capitals, +2 food/turn from Warpstone Telescope/Tractor Beam for a total of +29 food/turn (minus 12 food/turn for your regions and another -1/turn for each army, but you should still have a good surplus). You should also be getting some food by sacking/raiding Tobaro each turn. Provided you can find some trade partners, you should also be making some good income per turn. After that, you can get serious about getting a campaign victory (although you should have already achieved some of the goals). If you're trying to win the long campaign, you'll need to do a lot of travelling, but you can make things a little easier on yourself if you start with Brettonia and the Empire's lands, and don't bother with The Galleon's Graveyard, Lothern, Gaean Vale and Naggarond (although these can be good places to build Under Cities).

So, I tried this, and more or less everything worked like you said (although like some other commenters posted, a random lord from I think Estalia did interrupt my sack city fun for a while) but then I went on to the rest of the campaign and I'm literally about to quit at turn 80 or so. My main issues are: A) I never have enough money; rat buildings start out cheap but get expensive real quick when you're capturing cities at level 5. Throw in that we're buying quite the expensive army for Ikit Claw pretty quickly and it was probably turn 60 before I was no longer spending down to a couple hundred gold a turn, every turn. B) the loyalty mechanic is driving me so crazy I don't want to hire Ratling generic Lords anymore; at all. I'd much rather just use the mod to let me confederate dead factions and work exclusively with the legendary lords - which so far, do NOT have the loyalty mechanic. As it stands now I have a level 40 (yes, forty) Warlock Engineer who goes "disloyal" every 12 turns and I have zero choice but to either lose him or save scum and hope. It's tedious, and quite frankly losing a level 40 lord is "feel bads" enough to just end the campaign right here. It doesn't matter if I move his army to someone else, nothing is replacing the fully leveled up experience tree and I don't have the time (or will) to do another forty turns of sacking at this stage of the campaign. C) Everyone hates me; my allies break our treaties fairly regularly and there's too much going on in our starting area not to eventually get "low" trustworthiness or even "untrustworthy" and then you pretty much live there. My trade is a joke, I have no friendly neighbors; the entire diplomacy panel might as well be blank - as a lizardmen player primarily, I'm used to diplomacy sucking but I'm not kidding, they hate me. As for confederating Ratling lords WITHOUT the mod? Yeah that's not happening - none of my relationships ever exceed about 65 with ANYONE else on the map, and I don't have the gold to just throw 500K at adding Headtaker to my pokemon collection. Folks who write about early ratling confederations are clearly a lot better at this game than I am because I don't think I could get a confed with any of these guys if you gave me 300 turns. D) Additionally of course, the area I now control is vast, going north to the Vaults and South all the way to the northern coast of the desert. I was going to go munch the Tomb Kings but... Coroune (sp?) beat me to it. They also beat me to the north. Actually I'm 2/3's surrounded by Coroune who seem to have infinite armies and agents everywhere. This now leaves me only two options - fight Britania, or fight Wurrzag; both of whom have grown quite powerful. E) I can't do siege battles with this roster to save my life; and the problems start right away with the map - it's incredibly hard to keep my guys from getting shot and take advantage of my range advantage, when the deploy zone is so close to the walls and so short at the back. There are additional problems too. The Ratling guns are useless, the Jezzails are near useless, and no matter HOW well I plan out the siege, there always comes a moment where I have to rush in with some random infantry and run smack dab into their monstrous units and heavy cav, with no ranged support because telling Ratling Miniguns to fire into the giant hole in the fortress walls is apparently too much to ask - they will either refuse because "friendly fire" or try to get an angle by going all the way around - up the wall, down the wall, over to the opposite courtyard and THEN trying to fire. F) I can't do the summons right. Every single person online says crap like "I don't even USE ratling infantry, just summons" - well you folks must be goddamn maestros because I can't fire off more than 2 or three of them before the fact that my caster has to be TOO CLOSE to use them gets him killed, or at least surrounded by angry enemies. Furthermore, my guys STILL won't shoot into a melee fight - even if the units fighting are completely disposable SUMMONED ratling mans or for that matter, just a swarm of rats. In fact "my caster has to get too close" is a problem for literally every spell in my arsenal that is not warp lightning. G) I don't understand why anyone thinks the doomflayers, or even worse, the doomwheels, are good units; and that's even setting aside the fact that they're pretty expensive for mediocre cav. I don't mind getting it as a mount for a lord so you can run away easier, but trying to use them as cav to distract the enemy is more or less a sh*t ton of micro I don't have time to do, since I'm spending the ENTIRE BATTLE trying to get a firing angle for my miniguns and jezzails and/or trying to figure out the range on a summons as hordes of enemies close in on my lines. Yeah sure the guns melt anything they touch - but that still doesn't seem to help me keep them out of melee combat; where they die like insects. I don't want you to get me wrong here; I'm not LOSING these battles. But my casualty numbers are significant and for an "easy mode" faction - this is a lot harder than collecting lords and leveling them till they get dinosaurs, then going to town. Thanks for the video, I'm definitely going to try this start again at some point - but the fact that nothing I know about total war actually works with this roster, is... a lot.

Skaven economy is a bit 'meh' overall especially as trade isn't really an option due to most factions not liking you. They benefit quite well from sacking targets, so sacking a city before you capture is a must. It doesn't matter if you 'delevel' it with sacking as you can use the food to choose whichever tier you prefer. I'm surprised loyalty was an issue, but maybe it's due to having skavenslaves only on a high level lord? Gifting them items also helps, but I can't say I've ever experienced loyalty issues in the long term on any of my Skaven/Dark Elf campaigns! Siege battles for the Skaven are extremely easy, IF you have the DLC for their mortar teams. Those teams coupled with Ikit Claw's upgrades are insane and will net you THOUSANDS of kills in sieges, just let them do a single volley and let the damage over time effect do its thing.. it's actually broken to use against the AI. This will make every siege a breeze! Summons are very important for the skaven if you're going with the weapons teams armies. These armies are also best used in '1v1' where they will absolutely destroy anything the AI throws at you. If you the enemy has a ton of fast units, corner camping is the way. I extremely rarely lose any entities in any of my battles using these strategies. Doomflayers and Doomwheels are sadly not good units (in singleplayer) but they do make good mounts! Doomflayers are considered better as they're faster, turn quicker and are smaller, so less susceptible to enemy and friendly ranged damage. Maybe I'll do videos in the future showing how I use different army compositions and talk about their strengths & weaknesses!

@@0Coordination Okay so, I figured out the loyalty bit and I wanted to mention this here because the reason I ran into the problem was my own inability to understand the mechanic and following your guide but maybe TOO long. After turn 10, I kept sacking with the Warlock Lord like you said, and went on with my campaign army under Ikit Claw; and this stayed that way for probably another 40-45 turns. Well this rapidly leveled up my Warlock higher than my Legendary Lord, and even though it does not tell you this anywhere in a tool tip that I can find, I discovered online that THIS causes the Warlock lords to start dropping loyalty - fast, like 1 a turn fast. On my restart, I had the exact same thing happen and for whatever reason I noticed that it only started once my Warlock got about 3 levels higher than Ikit Claw. So I think the reason it likely hasn't happened to you, is because you fight more with Ikit than I was - I tend to expand slowly because as a less experienced player, I'm always pretty paranoid about having my good force out of position. Simple solution - never let your secondary lord level up higher than Ikit Claw. I stopped doing that, and I immediately stopped having the loyalty issue (at least with Warlock lords; Seers and Queek still hate each other afaict.) Honestly your guide was so good, the fact that I didn't know how to play Skaven didn't even become a problem until like turn 75ish; which is incredible - you gave me that much of a head start. Thanks. But yeah, I would love to see a video of you running a siege attack, and even summoning in combat - I can tell the problem is me, either I'm not very good at what I need to do, or I'm not doing the things I need to win. I almost just want to watch the mechanics of someone else solving the puzzle I'm struggling with. In the open field, with or without an ambush, I can make the all guns/weapon teams armies work so well - but they fail me so bad in sieges I've taken to dragging Kreetch around with me as a secondary support army just full of crap infantry I wish I didn't even have to hire. Thanks so much for your reply. Edit: and I forgot to mention, for whatever reason the friendly fire thing stopped happening - my rat gun teams will now shoot into clan rats without caring, just like they're skavenslaves. I think it might be something on the tech tree I took this 2nd time, but didn't take the 1st time - but I'm not sure.

Just sped through 100+ turns in the last couple weeks since watching your first guide. In regards to your ikit late game army mention, I've gone with having a basic front line pretty much the whole time - starting with slave Spears and then clan rat Spears and now stormvermin halberds and swords. Usually just 4 units of front line, and using ikit and 1-2 doomflayer units to kite (the rest is 4 cannons, 3 Jez, 3 rat guns, 1-2 warp throwers) - but I haven't had very much luck kiting against the empire (I went north). I'm playing on hard so I'm doing just fine, but if you play against the empire I'm wondering how your build works since they seem to bring 8+ cav units and then 3+ hero's, making a 15+ ranged unit army pretty tough to fight with
@0Coordination
@0Coordination 2 жыл бұрын
I used to run some melee cannon fodder myself, but the army comp I tend to run most commonly is - Grey Seer lord (Plague), 4 plague priests, 1 Warlock Engineer, 4 ratling guns, 3 Jezzails, 4 mortars & 3 catapults. The lord can summon Stormvermin units & the priest heroes summon clan rats + dwellers below ability. These all form your front line and as they are summons, they are completely expendable so friendly fire doesn't matter. If you're going up against high numbers or a lot of highly mobile units, you can always corner camp. It will force them to run directly at you, so they'll get pretty decimated before they reach you. Ratling guns seriously slow down enemy units as well, so with 4 of them in a corner, it's unlikely any cav will make it close. Snipe the enemy heroes with your jezzails, they should go down pretty fast.

Good video but I have a question as to when to start upgrading the structures at Skavenblight. Do you upgrade them around the same turn you upgrade the warpstone telecope? Or are you trying to save money to get Ikits first army? Also, how did you recruit Warpstone Jezails and Ratling Gunners without their recruitment building? Is it just me, cause I feel like i'm missing something...
@0Coordination
@0Coordination 2 жыл бұрын
I like to upgrade the warpstone telescope asap but also prioritise growth, public order and I like to upgrade the weapons team building fast as well. It's a bit of a balancing act to get the right upgrades while also having money to build Ikit's army. I personally like to go ham and get a weapons team army very early on but it is very expensive. I believe the ratling guns and jezzails from from the unique building in Skavenblight.

Whilst you do list what to do to min/max the start of Ikits campaign, I’d like to know why you keep sacking instead of occupying the first small settlement there. I’m a new player and I can’t find any guides that actually take there time to explain anything in a slow and meaningful manner. They all tend to zip through the content as though we are all seasoned trans to the game. Surly explaining why things are done would be better, as I would think veteran players know how to work this stuff out on their own? I just wish there were guides aimed at newbies like myself tbh. TWWH3 doesn’t seem to cater for newer players anywhere on KZfaq. Or at least, not that I can find. :(

Ooh that'd be tough to do! The more turns guides go on, the less accurate they will be. A general overview of what you should aim for could work, but anything beyond that would be very hard to do as the AI behaviour will likely change in each playthrough.

I wish I understood why this even works. Can you endlessly sack any settlement like this? I'm new to the game lol
@0Coordination
@0Coordination 2 жыл бұрын
You can endlessly sack settlements, unless a rebel faction takes over due to low public order. As long as a settlement has some kind of a garrison, you can attack a settlement and sack it, giving you extra experience but very little gold if you keep sacking the same settlement over and over.

@@0Coordination Thanks man! And 1 more question. Where are the poisoned wind mortars like mentioned @ 3:41. They aren't there for me for some reason? The only units that come with the Arsenal building are Warplock Jezzails and Death Globe Bombardiers. I must be missing something...

I've had a few comments asking this and I believe it's a weird bug of some kind. I've never had an issue recolonising a settlement (may be different in WH3)

Someone mentioned they had the same issue but this is a bug of some kind. Virtually every faction is able to abandon their settlements, so I am not sure why it sometimes doesn't work. Personally I've never come across this issue!

Just curious, playing against skaven, they expand really widely, is that something you might not want to do here? I have a really hard time understanding what to do as Skaven, Dark Elves and Vampire Coast due to their aggressive mechanics and the loyalty of the lords.
@0Coordination
@0Coordination 2 жыл бұрын
Aggressive expansion can be very difficult as any faction, as on the higher difficulties the AI has a player bias and will attack you from every direction. An easy way to expand as the Skaven is to gather food through sacking cities over and over, and then using the food to capture settlements at max tier. This will allow you to build walls there right away, making it hard to lose as the Skaven have very OP defences!

@@0Coordination Yeah alright, but I should still be conquering entire provinces and not just do it sparingly? Just that with more provinces I'd need more undercities or more lords to fight with to keep food high.
@0Coordination
@0Coordination 2 жыл бұрын
@@xXLoonoeXx @Grease Fire Yep, taking those provinces is still the way to go. There are so many ways of getting food as the Skaven, that it's not much of an issue. If you ever find yourself really low on food, just sacking a settlement over and over will build it back up pretty quickly. Don't worry about going into the red on food too much, I do it all the time and I've never had it cause me any major issues :)

I think Increased Mobility only counts for the hero not the lord/army so unless you're intending to use him to travel and develop undercities later probably best to use those points on either of the yellow lines early to buff the army/hero respectively, especially if you intend to keep him embedded indefinitely. Great video otherwise!
@yollnahkriin6604
@yollnahkriin6604 Жыл бұрын
Increased mobility actually works for whole army hero is in, so it's must have for every faction that has one. Btw, warlock boosts army's mobility anyway, putting points in that just makes him boost more.
