I made the mistake of getting standard lens and now have previously unknown astigmatism that didn't show up after my Lazik surgery back in 1998. Apparently, my cataract surgeon didn't have the information (records of the surgery were not available) needed prior to my cataract surgery to give the advice needed to determine if I had astigmatism issues or not. He is now recommending that I go to a cornea expect to determine if a correction for the astigmatism can be done surgically. I don't like wearing glasses for everything. Is there any options/advice you might recommend?

Hi, perhaps in a subsequent video you can talk about pain during cataract surgery. One study says about 35% report some pain, though 10% is the number Ophthalmologists think. The reason I mention it is that a family member had cataract surgery yesterday (not from you or your clinic) and was in terrible pain the whole time. The Dr kept saying she knew there was pressure, and the patient kept saying yes there was pressure but she was talking about severe pain too. She managed to keep still for the procedure but sobbed all through it. The Dr finally had the nurse up the IV dose which made zero difference. The patient isn't sure she'll bother getting the second eye done - even from someone else. So maybe you could address why people might have that kind of pain, and what a doctor should do about it. Thanks.

Hi Dr. Lee, I am a subscriber of your channel. I am 80 years old and my eye doctor said I will need a surgery for the cataract very soon. My eyes have been considered very healthy. In the last 4-5 years, however, the numbers/names of the streets have become more or less blurring (not clear like before) during driving. My question is what kind of lens that would be suited well for me, as I want to have my vision back to “normal” as in my old days. Thank you. Joseph.

I am pretty set on getting monofocal lenses. Have you had any experience with Tecnis Eyhance? It's newer than the Alcon Clareon monofocal, and just wondered how the two compare as far as vision quality, and patient satisfaction.

Hi, Dr. Lee. When my doctor said that one of my cataracts had reached the point that met insurance company criteria for surgery I learned that I have extreme astigmatism, dry eye syndrome, recurrent corneal erosion, and abnormal saccades (from a Traumatic Brain Injury after my car was T-boned by a bus). I am 65. Is there a specific surgical specialist I should be looking for? When he said I qualified for surgery, he then said with all the problems with my eyes, I should come back in another year. Was this his way of saying I will go blind because of all my eye issues? I really don’t know what to do. Do you have any advice?

I recently went for a 4 point IOL suture monofocal on my right eye due to complications. Currently deciding surgery for my left eye (has cataracts) to go monovision. I have a question about monovision as you can see near and far distance, but what about intermediate? Especially for computer screen distance, will it still be effective?

Just a note for pilots or people considering becoming a pilot, you will not be able to pass your FAA Physical if you have distant correction in one eye and near correction in the other eye. It affects your depth perception.

Hello I came upon your site and after hearing you subscribe immediately you are a fountain of knowledge now on to my question. I am poised to have eye surgery and by the way I have worn prescription eyeglasses all my life and because I have cataracts and astigmatism in my right eye but there's something I wanted to run by you I would appreciate greatly your opinion? Prior literally days before I was to get surgery my doctor and staff had a meeting which I presented a possibility with not quite knowing which premier tort to proceed with? So I presented to the doctor for his Deliberation and consideration the following . I thought it might be prudent at my cost out of pocket to have a test pair of multi focus contact lenses made From his office which I would wear for a week or two to see if my brain would adjust properly prior to committing to the physical surgery of placing multi focus lenses in both my eyes. Please let me know your thoughts it would be nice to get another opinion prior to the actual surgery also and if you have suggested or any of your patients ever did what I'm about to do for the assurance before committing to surgery. And what possibly their journey took them on and their outcomes would be beneficial. Thank you in advance I look forward to hearing your reply.

Hi Dr. Lee, My astigmatism is moderate (right eye: -2.50, left eye: -2.00). Can I select regular IOLs instead of Toric lenses when having cataract surgery, then use eye glasses to correct the astigmatism after the surgery, will that be ok? Thank you very much for your time.

May I ask what are the difference between standard lens and wavefront lens? They both are one focal distance only, are the wavefront lens provide better vision in low-lighting?

I have bilateral; cataracts & previously had Lasik monovision, which I loved. Apparently, Medicare covers the cataract removal, but if I could get monovision lenses for my eyes, I would have to pay $1000 per eye. What is this cost for? If I need an IOL, wouldn't it be just as easy as slipping monovision lenses into my eyes?

My eyes according to the doctor are in good shape but have cataract in both.my night vision is still good. He suggested surgery. I love to hunt ,fish and be outdoors. Please can you advise?

Hi Dr. Lee, I have heard that, when choosing a monofocal lens, most people choose their lenses set for far distance. Why is that? It seems like it would make more sense to chose near vision because most people are looking at their phone a lot, and also, you need near vision to be able to put in your contact lenses. Right? Thank you in advance. 🙏

Your thoughts on the IC-8 IOL?
@Rita50
@Rita50 2 ай бұрын
Dear doctor. The problem if I chose some sort of monovision is bothering me a lot. They offered to do one eye for distance so I could drive and another for mini-mono vision within 1 diopter (I hope they mean -0.5 but we are going to discuss it with them in person soon). They asked me on the phone to consider that. I don’t know if I should opt for that although I had experience in that: my right eye was always slightly weaker than left one but could still read the 20/20 but not as sharp as left one in glasses. It is possible to live with one eye -3 as I do now because of a cataract but I don’t want to feel like now like I’m an invalid or something. I want to have 2 eyes for vision. They said it’s to help with my close vision. We didn’t discuss IOLs with them yet but I hope for PureSee or Luxsmart so hoped the close vision would be all right anyway. I don’t mind glasses as I wore them all my life but I’m myopic -7,-8 sort of before cataract. Should I opt for this mini monovision? Would I regret it? So tricky. It’s bothering me more than the IOL choice.

I had the Light Adjustable Lens put in a few months ago. And in my right eye, I have 20/15 and my left I have 20/20 with the lenses adjusted for intermediate and far. So I wear readers for near. I am a private pilot and a long range shooter so these do both really well for me. I would do it again.

I got astigmatism lenses . Before that I needed bifocal glasses to correct both close up and distance . With the astigmatism lenses I no longer need glasses for distance, only for reading . I was told that astigmatism lenses can correct distance or closeup (my choice), but not both . I hope that this clarifies the situation for you .

@@albertsilver195 Did the astigmatism lenses at least improve your close up vision from what it was before? What power readers are you wearing Now? I'm now up to 3.25 power readers. 20 years ago I was fine with 1.5's. Also, my distance vision is getting bad. I can't see a movie theater screen in proper/sharp focus anymore. Maybe 75% there. I would go with the astigmatism lenses if they would also improve my close-up vision to where I could get by with say, 1.5 level reading glasses.

The astigmatism lenses did not improve my close up vision from what it was before. If anything, my close up vision was marginally worse .
