Yeah, people who never do backpacking always complain about hipbelt, said they never use it and then they complaining that their shoulder hurts. Well its because the hipbelt supposed to take almost 80% of the weight. Its really2 important that all backpacking and hiking bags all have hipbelt.

Right! The hip belt isn't there to look cool. It's there to save your shoulders.

Hi Jeff, Our specialty is fully-featured, max carry-on-sized packs. What would you be willing to sacrifice for a lighter weight bag? Adjustability, organization, materials, something else? I'm asking bc we're always looking to expand the line and serve every kind of traveler's needs.

@@TortugaBackpacks I think this bag is awesome for domestic travel in the US where it is all about dimensions and not weight. However, the key consideration for me is weight. I travel frequently in SE Asia and Australia where they have 7kg limits on a carry on. While it sometimes possible to sneak past, I prefer a solution on which I can depend. So every ounce of weight in the bag is an ounce of "stuff" I potentially must leave behind. I would sacrifice size, organization and some adjustability for certain. As weight is my key concern, I would definitely not require a hip belt, just some nice shoulder straps. I look for a laptop compartment, a quick access, and then a simple large space into which I can pack. If I have accessories (air pods, tablet) I will pack them in a way I can pull them out when I board the plane, so I don't need any extra organization for them. Sometimes I just stuff most of it in my pockets. Although I like structure in a bag, I would sacrifice some of that for a lighter frame. Sorry for being so obsessive about the weight. I have been searching for the one cool "travel" bag for years. The bag Chase reviewed here is REALLY nice and definitely one of my favourites. Thanks for taking the time to listen to my rants. I appreciate it. And also, Chase is the best! 🙂

@@jeffone Thank YOU for the feedback, Jeff. I keep packing lighter and lighter myself, mostly bc I don't like to carry too much stuff. We're working on a few ideas for a "lightweight" or at least lightERweight bag. We made a bag, the Homebase, where the entire point was to make it as light as possible. That bag wasn't successful, so we want to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.

​​​​@@TortugaBackpacks hi, I think the priority for a lightweight travel backpack should be: - A load bearing harness system with an internal frame or a framesheet, load lifters, sternum strap, hip belt and an adjustable torso length. I would be happy to sacrifice ORGANIZATION. Just a laptop sleeve, then a big main compartment, compression straps and two side water bottle pockets. The only thing that should NOT be sacrificed is carry comfort, this is the priority always. I can live without organization but I can't live without a load bearing harness system. I think the load bearing harness system can be improved and made lighter at the same time, take inspiration from the harness system of ultralight outdoor backpacks, the foam can be reduced, you can use an aluminum internal frame, with aluminum stays, instead of a framesheet. If you want to maximize comfort you have to connect the load lifters and the hip belt to the internal frame. Look at load bearing harness system of the Zpacks Arc Zip Ultra 62L it is effective and lightweight. So you can cut weight also from the harness without sacrificing carry comfort. By the way you don't have to reach the weight of ultralight outdoor backpacks, 1.5 Kg would be fine as a target.

No, they don't. We chose adjustability over tuck-ability because of how important comfort is for our customers.
