A Greek fan here 🇬🇷 The failure to qualify for the Euros is hurting us a lot, especially the new generation which hasn't seen the national team qualifying in Euros or World Cup for 10 years straight since 2014😢 This group with Portugal and Czechia was full ov 2004 vibes, and the fact Turkey was there too was as if it was literally made for us. Unfortunately this was not the case and I think there will not be such drawing again😞 But Georgia 🇬🇪 probably wanted it more as they are debutants and they played at their home. i get what you're saying about Germany, and I think we should be cautious for sure. However I think this is a new Germany we're saying. Their friendlies against Netherlands and France was mightily impressive and their squad, in my biased German opinion, might edge out England. Again these are the type of perspectives I think that differ depending on country. Regardless though Germany now isn't the same one as you saw just a year ago.

This new squad is completely different, and these players are determined to show up for their national team. Andrich and Mittelstädt got their first ever start vs France and the Netherlands, and both showed true determination both times. No more Kehrer, Süle or Schlotterbeck (the flops who gave the World Cup away)

If Hungary's key players (Orban, Szoboszlai, Sallai, Schafer) remain healthy and in good form the team could go far in this tournament. At the same time, expectations are rising (as evidenced by most comments predicting them to advance). In 1986, Hungary was expected to be a semi-finalist at the Mexico World Cup, and they crashed to the Soviets 6-0 and out of the tournament at the group stage. So better for Hungary to lower expectations and then massively exceed them.

I agree with most. I still expect Scotland to have a good tournament, and in Group B I think italy will be ahead of Croatia, although they seem to never win against them. I hope i'm wrong, but for Croatia I expect the beginning of a slump at this tournament. Modric is past his prime and usually doesn't start at Real these days, Brozovic isn't used to high competition level football anymore, Perisic is 35 and was injured for a long time. Croatia is just relying too much on these older players and hasn't produced players who can replace them.

Croats are penalty kick specialists, opposite of England. If they are level after xtra time, they do well. But unless Luka is propped up chemically, I think they will underperform compared to WC's.

I'm a Hungarian and we haven't lost since September 2022 (and that was against Italy to determine first place in Nations League, where Donnarumma turned on god mode lol), but our group is very tough and to be frank, all of the teams look very much on the same level at the moment. One quick note on Belgium worth looking into for future predictions of the Euros; Courtois won’t be a part of the team whether he’s recovered or not. He had a disagreement with the national manager, they’ve been childishly sniping at each other in interviews and social media since, other nationals have expressed doubt in wanting him to come back after this, and the national media there is saying he won’t ever return as long as Tedesco is in charge. So no Courtois in the near future…

I still see Italy topping its group, but also changed my mind on Germany: now I see them as first in group A while still holding that Switzerland qualifies as second place (a tough call between them and Hungary). I have a bit more respect for the Netherlands now, but I'll maintain that Austria finishes on top of them and under group winner France. England, Belgium, and Portugal remain my favorites to win their respective groups.

Its surprising how England, with 1 trophy, always rated higher than Italy, with 7 trophies, before every tournament

My critique is that you're overlooking the home crowd bonus. The host of such a tournament normally does well and for example Turkey will profit from the sheer amount of supporters in Germany. When they played against Germany in Germany the small German crowd was basically silent for the whole match. Similar things might be true for Albania, Poland and Austria.

If you look at who England played you could tell that Southgate wasn't going to win. the entire first back 4 were out, there was no Kane or Saka, and against brazil Belingham came off in the second half.There were about 9 debuts and in the match against Belgium the only 3 players that make the first team were Rice, Bellingham and Foden. The entire team had 'injuries' *cough* and about 11 players were out. Kane, Saka, Walker, Stones, Mount, TAA, Shaw, Reece James, Ward Prowse, Grealish, non of them were even on the bench. But i will say that after watching the likes of Dunk and Chilwell, i never thought i would miss Maguire... I mean, Rice had the captians armband.... Declan Rice... Thats how little experiance we had on that pitch. IMO soutgate made a *le gasp* sound tactical move. Knowing we had more or less the entire first team out of comission he played the reserves so see where we would be weakest against big names. In the Euros, we won't get a second chance, so he turned a disadvantage into an oppotunity. We are likley to lose a few to injury in the tournement so what better way to see how best to plug the gaps against other heavyweights? Mainoo, Gordon and Bowen all impressed me with the latter proving that he might make a viable Saka replacement, but honestly it's scary how lacking we are for finishing talent without Kane. The only viable replacement we had was Greenwood and he blew his chance. Watkins is alright but nowehre near the level Kane is at, not to mention he is 28 and not far behind him.
