Glued and trued Paul Gage Urethane tires on my Scalextric Digital home layout. XPG 20115 on my Group C slot.it cars.

I think the XPG are probably the beat of Urethanes for Scalextric Sport, and it could be argued the best entirely.

I really prefer sponge tires or rubber. They fit perfectly together. Instead of cleaning the track by driving lots of laps I prefer to put some Nivea Bodylotion on the tires for instant grip. And won't need to store the sponge tires protected from drying. And best of all, sponge tires seem to last forever. I did a real 90km with one set of scaleauto procomp4 tires. PU tires are not compatible with rubber and sponge tires. At least that's my experience. Really appreciate your videos. Maybe you will enjoy some of my videos, just have a look for brands hatch in my channel. Cheers.

Back in the mid sixties when sponge rubber tyres were predominant, a coating was smeared onto them to improve traction still further , the liquid was called winter green , it had a distinctive smell and was purchased in small glass bottles I believe from a chemists or pharmacy ,I think it was a ‘cure all’ product , probably capable of remedying coughs colds and scabby bottoms ! It certainly worked, but it left the track feeling like fly paper. Happy days.

still running stock rubber tires on my Carrera's. But I do have some silicone coming to give a go. We may run silicone's on our GT cars.

On our wooden club-track, only sponge tires are allowed. On my Carrera home-track I only run PU. They do not age like rubber tires and only need some polishing from time to time and by using flat bed rims donut-tires, you can basically create any size of wheel you need

NSR red’s. Some people complain about the color. But they simply can’t be beat in performance. Clean them with lighter fluid and duct tape and you will see a huge difference.

Hello Gary, Interesting line of Vidoes you are starting here! We generally use urethane, being in Germany, from the brand "Ortmann". This is for our Carrera home tracks. They are very good to true and very long lasting. It gives the car very good but friendly grip. In are race center we use the foam tires (RevoSLot) on wooden tracks. Sometimes we use the scale-auto tyre cleaner. I do notice that using the foam tires on the same home track for usually urethane is not working so well. The foam does not get much grip. Using a tyre softener is tempting but detremental for the urethanes. In the past we have been racing Parma Womps with wide foam tires. There we used "Tiger Milk" that needed to be imported from the US. Awful smelly stuff and probably very unhealthy, but the grip was great! Looking forward to more videos on "professional" slot car racing.

Thanks for watching! Your comment has as much information as my video! Ortmann surely has a the widest range of Urethanes and are definitely popular. I’ve also heard that the sponges don’t work so well on the smoother plastic tracks but can be improved with the Scaleauto tyre cleaner that you mention. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I feel that ortmanns are popular for their availability. That is an issue in our hobby. Personally I am not a big fan of PU tires. The performance is just too dependent on the amount of time you invest in polishing. That's the main reason why we go for rubber and sponge tires.

We prefer silicon tire on out Carrera track. Good traction, easy to clean and more common to purchase in the U.S. Midwest.

Au contraire. Silicon can be trued though they are quite concentric out of the box. If any at all, they'll only need minimal sanding. Silicon's require finer grades of sandpaper than urethane and should be worked slowly'er. Even if I find they don't require truing, I always break the contact patch edges with an emery board paying extra attention to their sharp inner edge. This prevents those edges grabbing causing tip ups and rollovers.

Silicon tires are banned on our public track because of that degeneration they leave behind for rubber tires. Urethanes are my favourite.

I know this is an old video but I will ask anyway. Do you know where I may find what they call "fish rubber" or "natural rubber" for use with 1/24 scale cars? Thanks T.C.

I don’t know much about 1:24 sorry. I’ve heard of what you’re referring to but don’t know anything about it. Thanks for watching!
