Here's a trick to turn Windows XP Home Edition to Windows XP Pro, from within the operating system without going through installation.This doesn't install or add all the features from Windows XP Professional, such as Remote Desktop Server and Group Policy Editor (GPedit) utility tools, which has been removed from Windows XP Home edition

So if this conversion does not provide/unlock any XPPro-specific features, what exactly is the benefit of doing this at all?

This indeed works as I had to install Spanish MUI language pack (My Home is in English) since this does not work in Home Edition and by applying this tweak, I could install the MUI package. You can actually undo o revert to Home if you apply the steps by doing the opposite, that is, change back the setting as they were before in registry, restart on Last Known Good Configuration, and there it is... You can have back Home Edition again. NOTE: I haven't tried to just boot normally without doing Last known configuration, but it looks like it's needed.

Installing pro is not a solution if i want to install Home. I want to install Home because i have a product key on the case for Home and i want to sell that PC online. On order to not go illegal, i wanted to install Home on it and use that original key.

Use Windows Easy Transfer on the Windows Vista CD to back up your files and settings, then do a clean install of Windows XP Home Edition, then use the Windows Vista CD to restore your files and settings. You will need to reinstall your programs.

I know I am more than half a decade late, but you use Windows Easy Transfer on a Windows Vista CD to back up your files and settings, then do a clean install of Windows XP Embedded, then restore them with Windows Easy Transfer on the Windows Vista CD. You will need to reinstall your programs.

The only remedy is to downgrade back to Home Edition. Not to mention that just because you're going to "upgrade" to Professional without a reinstallation, does't mean that you're going to get the programs/features of that of the Professional edition. It will simply call itself Professional.
