In todays video we install a budget short shifter into the Mk8 GTI it’s the CTS Turbo short shifter which provides a 25%-35% reduction in shifter throw! Doing so aims at providing a better shifter feel and a shortened throw between shifts! #mk8gti #volkswagen #CTS shifter #short throw shifter

I go 4 to 5 diagonal anyways should be OK

Cool, seems like the CTS is based off the Audi shifter which should help with the vertical throws mostly. I installed the holy shift from shop dap which is a little different and has its own metal linkage. The short throws are vertical and horizontal and it’s significantly better that stock. Although, the shifting experience can get too raw, as the shifting cables are gripped so hard by several screws on the metal linkages. Sometimes I think too much force has to be applied for 1st, 2nd and reverse that not even months of breaking in could help with. Also, keep up the mods and good work. Thank you appreciate the comment and compliment! I could definitely see that being as you said “ too raw “ of an experience when it’s cold in the mornings here it requires a lot of force to shift feel although it has more to do with things not being warmed and fluid then the actual shifter mechanism it’s self but I can understand what you’re saying!

When you installed the shift knob, did you need to cut the boot where it meets the OEM shift knob? Or did you pry the OEM shift knob off? I’m about to install my new knob but don’t want to cut the boot just in case

I didn’t but I replaced the shift boot and shift knob at the same time so I never separated the two from eachother if I remember correctly it’s just a small plastic ring that hold them together they should just pull apart after you remove that ring !

Well shit maybe I’ve been doing my 2 to 3 and 4 to 5 shift wrong Im newish to driving manual and I’ve always just kinda went diagonal always is that harder on the gearbox when it’s stock? I’ve been debating on getting a short shifter but been concerned the sound of the throws are really loud but couldn’t tell if that’s just the mics in videos picking it up. Do you hear it a lot when driving and if so does it get old always hearing a clank when shifting

It is definitely a little louder than stock but I would say it’s not that much louder driving , the hood was open and the door was open as well and we were in a shop so it kinda trapped the sound. And as for your first question I have no idea in the GTI I always went neutral to 5th when going from 4th but I don’t usually do any hard shifting or pulls past 3-4.
