An update in 2022 bricked my shield

A ha, here we have it, you promote fire devices so you can sell more of this bs Fire devices are terrible, your promotion of them suggests your opinions aren't worth listening to.

@stephen: I think this is subjective. I myself prefer the AppleTV…..I sold my Nvidia shield.

I had a lot of streaming devices, I'll stick with Nvidia Shield.

@@giuliano71 hey there. Well for me I think the user interface is a lot cleaner and minimilastic. The phone integration is great….for example let’s say I watched a show last year. It will give me a new phone notification telling me there are new episodes/ season. Also I am able to walk mount the Apple TV which clears up space . It just works for me very easy to plug and play. Oh yeah also when I buy movies or tv shows it asked payment via the phone and Apple Pay is pretty secure instead of having the actual card on tue device.

Nothing comes close to the shield

They are not even comparable as the Fire can't do what the shield was designed for which is cloud gaming. Due to the OS the Fire can't even run Cloud gaming apps. If you only want to stream movies or music the Shield is a complete overkill and no one should pay 100+ bucks on it just to do that.

@@frutti_di_marius but AI upscaling, better controller.... hardware is better aka better boot times, easier to sideload apps.. All that favors the Shield

Question: does it have to be connected to internet to do the upscaling? I am just worried that they turn such a beautiful device into a brick whennthey drop the support 😢

Idk what you are talking about, I can install 3rd party apps fine on Fire TV 4k stick still. And the moonlight app functions the same as Shield, I can stream 4k games form my pc easily

@@MylonasFilms No I mean they won't leave Amazon. They just put up with the bs. All Android box operate the same as firestick. It may have settings in a different place but everything is the same.

@@TheCleaner6969 You can still sideload the apks but its hidden and harder... sometimes if they decide to update the software, you are screwed and need to do it again (if you could in future).

@@samfkt I should of said future or people looking to get into streaming. I do understand you still can on current devices but Amazon is really pushing their Vega OS on new devices. I would just be careful not to invest in the whole Amazon brand/devices if you like your freedom.

im not saying it isnt worth it. My biggest point is do not buy a new one as an upgraded model is probably coming

​@@UpgradeGuyTechthat is not what your video says, you're literally advising fire devices over the shield, the very reason I found this video is because of how hacked iff with fire TV I am, and looking for something that will actually work and not crash and promote and Amazons crap content. Your only criticisms are you THINK they might launch a new device (ironic that you promote Amazon who have released multiple fire devices, why doesn't that render the previous obsolete? And Amazon have a proven track record in needless fire devices upgrades to sell more devices, yet your promoting a company that is a worse offender for one of your main criticisms of the shield, utter hypocrisy. Your second criticism is they haven't issued software updates for nearly 2years......have you considered that it doesn't need them, if it works well "if it ain't broke don't fix it" What a pathetic criticism. lack of updates is a positive not a negative. The fact you think lack of updates is a good thing is concerning for what modern tech has done to people's perceptions. A good device should never need updates, it should work properly from day one, the more updates a device needs means the worse it was when released, continued updates indicate the company can't even correct what should have works at launch properly. Youre meant to indicate sponsored content, and that's the only logical conclusion (without using ad hominems) for your "opinion" is that Amazon are paying you. Anyway thanks to the comments on this video. I shall now go and purchase a shield and take great delight in smashing the heck out my fire TV device

TOTALLY agree. Fire Stick/Cube was the only thing close to the Shield, but thats changed with the Fire Stick getting more and more locked down. FireStick is becoming AppleTV 2.0...especially once Amazon gets its own OS.

I'm pretty sure Amazon are sponsoring them, his only criticisms are a new one might come out (like Amazon do every 5minutes with fire devices) And these not been updates for a while,which basically i dictates it works well so doesn't need updates, surely updates are just an inication a product didn't initially work properly. I'm off to buy a shield now

I appreciate hearing the honest recap. I don't see a lot of people in the comments here comparing to 2022 Apple TV 4K, and I'm trying to compare the two. I currently use Roku Ultra and it's totally fine for most things but having ads really turns me off, and it doesn't give you a lot of options or control or feedback over audio/visual status to diagnose what's available vs. what your devices are requesting/displaying. Also a few random crashes and quirks that may be unique to my unit or setup.

@@clavicus It isn't just you. My Roku streaming stick also has random crashes forcing me to disconnect and reconnect. I think I am going to give the Apple TV 4K a try as well and see how that one performs. One thing I will say is that Apple support is generally very responsive so hopefully they can guide me through any setup hiccups. Good Luck to you.

@@joeg.5669 just got my Apple TV 4k (3rd gen with Ethernet version) used for $100 from local Facebook marketplace. I have to say it’s exactly what I wanted. Extremely responsive, great small remote, some Apple integrations I didn’t realize, that I think will be handy. I like that the apps seem to keep their “state” unlike my Roku Ultra that seems to clear apps back to square one if you want to switch between them. looks like it’s a keeper. I may buy another for the living room. I can see how the Shield would be preferable for a tinkerer type of person though. I think I may be getting older and narrowing the scope of things I want to spend time customizing. That said, i spent a couple hours tinkering with every setting I could find. The menus are pretty sensible.
