I've owned a Dyson V6 for about 3.5 years now and the battery life sucks (pun intended). Check the battery life test in the video, we've run this baby into the ground with a lot of usage over the years.
I spent a couple of hours looking at new Dysons or even alternate brands and it just dawned on me that there's nothing wrong with the V6, it's just losing it's charge. A bunch of research and a little prayer later, I had ordered a new replacement battery off of Amazon.
I'd never done it before but it's stupidly easy to replace these, watch the video and you can see that even a monkey can do it (me). I've only run the new battery for 2-3 cycles and the vacuum seems to perform much much better, I would encourage anyone to give this a go if your old vacuum has seen better days. For $40 or so, it's given the vacuum a whole new lifespan, super happy with this upgrade!
Onto the good stuff! Looking at doing a channel name change. I'm guessing noone will mind too much but I thought it was worth throwing out there for a few videos while I get everything sorted. Excited for the new change and opportunities coming this year!

Thats the mindset we need. Its similar with phones. The first thing dying is the battery and most people change their device completely because of it.

Compelling idea for Dyson upgrade if you already have a Makita, Milwaukee, or other 18v-20v lithium drill/charger set. A matching battery socket from an old charger or tool is needed to hack the dead Dyson battery shell into an adapter that can then accept the slide-in tool battery. Best to use 5 or 6 amp/hr tool battery as used on bigger tools (3 amps too weak). The tool charger also does better balancing than Dyson's pcb, and shares duty with tools.

We just picked up a V15.... blame our corgi but the V6 just wasn't keeping up with our new multi day vacuuming requirements :)

Hi I just found your video/channel! I've been watching/searching for more info on the dyson replacement batteries, on how much longer do they last than the original battery that it came with. I think i watched about 3 different Dyson replacement batteries installation videos, but none of them did a timing test review like you did. I'm so glad i found your video! Your video should rank higher than everyone elses! Great job on this video! I just liked clicked on your video and subscribed to your channel! Introvert mom of 4 sons (2 autistic) trying to make new you tube friends, while learning from others, and trying to grow my channel ( dog therapy music to raise pups and save lives). Since you were struggling with that stubborn screw... A suggestion... Get a small magnet.. Dead hard drives are gold mines of strong magnets. Free, except a few minutes of your time. Tool places (eg, Tractor Supply, Northern Tools, Sears, Autozone.. etc) sell "pick-up" tools... Basically a magnet on the end of a fixed-length rod, or an extendable rod (similar to an old "rabbit-ear" antenna). You can also find claw-type pickers...

Dyson recommends you wait 5 mins after use to charge it, to allow it to cool down before charging. Evidently, in this "community", they're saying that the heat from folks typically plugging it straight back in is what is most detrimental to the battery life. This seems super counterintuitive, because this is the way that most consumers would just use this device, plug it back into the dock when you're done using it, right? But anyways, that's what they're saying.

The trend now is getting an adapter and just swapping out power tool batteries like Craftsman, Ryobi, Makita,, Dewalt where they are swappable. You can use a 9ah battery if you want to clean the entire house but, is heavy or a 3--4ah battery if you want to clean the room with something lighter.

the 7 minutes from a fully charged battery makes sense since you got 3 minutes from the new battery from the box. the best way to store lithium batteries is at about 50% charge so most batteries you buy should be around that number somewhere.

This true for lipos, not li-ion. Li-ion is stored like that because it is safer in terms of potential fire if the battery is damaged

from 27 seconds to 7 minutes, that's crazy! and with the powered head, I'd imagine things would have been much worse for the original battery... how's the replacement battery handling things a year on? assuming you still have the V6 of course

It actually just died 2 weeks ago and I ordered another one because I was in the same boat (buy a $20 battery, or a $500 vacuum). I did some reading and they suggest to not charge the battery while it's hot (makes sense). The only problem is that when you're done vacuuming its obviously hot... So this time around I wont bang it back in the charger straight away. I'll put it to the side for 30-60 mins then charge it. It's annoying I've had to change the battery twice now... but we're still talking a $40 fix over a new vacuum. We just got a dog and are in a whole new league of vacuuming compared to our old needs... Might have to upgrade for that reason anyway... We'll see what happens next time it dies :)

Nope, best purchase ever! If I had to buy a new Dyson I wasn't going to buy the same one again, was going to get a new v10 or something. So to spend $25 to avoid a $800 purchase has been amazing. It still feels like a brand new vac with the battery, highly recommended.

Just pump in your van model into amazon and you'll see 1000 listings. Grab any of them with a good amount of reviews and you'll be right. Probably all come out of the same 2 factories haha. It's just the sellers keep changing. Thanks for the heads up, I'll check my amazon links tonight!

Great review thank you. My concern was about the safety part. Can this replacement battery might damage my dyson vaccum long term and is it safe to use, I’m scare that it might caught on fire or something else bad. Thank you

I read somewhere that with a new battery that suction is better on the normal setting so you don’t need to use max anymore, did you find that too?

The original battery had definitely degraded in storage and output. The new battery feels like a whole new vacuum again. I just think a fresh battery makes the vac feel like new again. I doubt theres much/any difference on a new dyson battery vs a new 3rd party battery. And yeah on some rugs I have to turn off Turbo because its so powerful it will pull them up annoyingly or just hug them. Long story short, this was a simple and easy fix, highly reccomended!

I bought mine off Amazon off a seller who had hundreds of good reviews. I guess you can buy them off Ebay/Amazon or any marketplace. I'd say just choose someone with a good reputation.

That is a fantastic by product as well. Took me a couple weeks to take the old battery back to a battery recycle place. We all gotta do our part and not just leave stuff on the street or chuck it in the rubbish.

MAX OR NOTHING !!!! Someone here suggested not to plug it back in when it's ripping hot so we've been trying to let it cool down for 20 mins before plugging it back in. Hard to say if its making a difference but so far so good many many months later.
