Love the style of the video. I've been 3D printing a long time and have to compliment you on the animations you created, as well as the excellent camera angles showing the detail of the work you're doing on the printer. Great Video! Very informative and I really appreciate your fine sense of humor. I did the conversion from P1P to P1S a few weeks ago and I preferred - after some serious consideration - the original Bambu enclosure set. It's expensive, though. But it comes with all the parts, including all the necessary fans and mounts. And it's not to underestimate how much material and energy (and therefore money) is needed for DIY-printing and building an enclosure. At the end, the original enclosure is not so much more expensive anymore. And Bambu can't blame you for not using it when it comes to defects. Nevertheless your enclosure is great (and brings much more vision on the process) and will surely work perfect. Especially the lights are nothing less than amazing.
@TimTheEngineer96

Thank you! The enclosure by Bambu lab is amazing and all in all costs the same for a much more professional finish so It’s still what I recommend!

Great video. Brand new subscriber. Long time nylon user. Easy Nylon is funny because if you print it with regular nylon bed temps you will have a had time. You'll actually get better results if you use 50 degrees on the bed instead of higher temps. A thin layer of glue will be just as sufficient as thick glue but prettier. The packaging recommendations are actually spot on (when perfectly dry). The Easy Nylon you printed is still too wet from the looks of it. It will be silky smooth when completely dry. When wet, it'll get the bumpier texture and string like PETG. Idk if you have the engineering plate but i think that actually works the best with Easy Nylon. Finally, you used Easy Nylon.... It's easy lol. If you want a "real" challenge, pickup some Kodak Nylon. That'll require the preset temps, unlike the Overture. Again, great video. Just hoping to help, as an extensive non-CF nylon user.
@TimTheEngineer96

Thank you! I’m glad you approve given your expertise on the matter! I was scared nylon lovers would take offence to me using easy nylon but I’m glad I’m still in the good books :) I’ve tried other Nylon and indeed it was much more difficult to get right. Didn’t know that you could go as low as 50 and I think you might be right i didn’t dry it before printing. Probably should have let it sit in the drier overnight. Thanks for the info kind sir! I will keep it in mind for future projects!

One trick I have used in my PrusaXL to improve my success with Nylon parts is to use a fiber reinforced nylon in the bulk structural areas and plain nylon in the contact areas. I also found that polycarbonate and nylon don't adhere to each other so if you can keep the PC and PA from contacting each other in a wipe tower and only use supports on the bed you can treat the PC almost like a dissolvable support material with the interface distance... That said on the XL a wipe tower is pretty much a necessity when switching filaments and i really struggled getting the mixed prints and wipe tower to behave.
@TimTheEngineer96
@TimTheEngineer96 3 күн бұрын
Very cool Idea! I’m thinking of doing something similar in a future project with glass fibres in the middle of the filament, leaving the outside nylon only.

Thanks for the nice video! I'm upgrading my p1p too and not sure about installing the chamber fan because there is no temperature sensor in the p1p. So the fan is only adjusted by the g-code, right ?
@TimTheEngineer96
@TimTheEngineer96 4 күн бұрын
Yes this is correct, to be honest it’s no way near as important as the control board fan. The enclosure won’t overheat even if your beds at 100 C so you can skip the chamber fan upgrade if you want. For me it was a way of getting some air through the Carbon filter. Now considering having an internal filtering system with a hepa filter and temp sensor+ heater.

Keep up the nice video cutting/editing. In my opinion you does it best im camparison to other 3d printing enthusiats. And try polymaker CoPa. Grwat engineering filament and much easier to print.

Really cool video !! Do p1p or p1s have preset profiles for those engineering filaments like nylon-cf etc ?
@TimTheEngineer96
@TimTheEngineer96 5 күн бұрын
Thanks! Yes they do PA-CF is actually easier to print! The nylon (PA) profile is the tricky part because it’s too fast and a lot of the settings had to be tuned on the slicer

Well, it sounds as if PA was the best material (Nylon is actually just a brand name, not the material). However it's actually not even close to being the best material, and I'm talking about the mechanical properties and not about ease of use. Really the biggest problem with PA is that it trades toughness for rigidity. For example I would never print shelf parts out of it, because the load will deform it permanently over time. Toughtness is not the only strength property and therefore, while it is impact and shatter resistant, it's still not the strongest material (not even close). Also since it is hard to print properly, it will turn out weaker than PETG in a lot of cases. Furthermore it's unsuitable in a lot more cases than just shelf parts.Whenever rigidity is required, then PA is the wrong material. Printed CNC machines for example. In the vast majority of cases PLA, PETG or ABS/ASA is better suited than PA. PLA expecially when it needs to be stiff and resist deflection under non constant load and when temperature is low. Or ABS/ASA for constant loads. Yes PA can be made stiffer when using PACF, but it still won't be as stiff as some other options like PLA and the CF content might be unsuitable in many cases, because CF changes it's size based on room temperature and that causes a lot of mechanical problems, too. In my experience of 5 years with many different filaments, I'd argue, that there are almost no cases where PA is the best choice. Wear and friction resistance is one of the few cases wher PA shines over the other filaments. There is a reason why PLA and PETG is so widely popular. ANd that's not only because they're easy to work with, but also because they are suited to most use cases and even in special cases I'd probably not use PA, unless specifically required. And their spread make them cheap, so the higher price for PA is not an argument for it being better. Quite the contrary.

Yeah your absolutely right there’s very few good use cases for nylon, but I do believe that if used in the right areas it shines! Hope to demonstrator this in future projects!

Do you have any sources for the graphs you use, like the one at 8:48 ? (There are none linked in the description) And if you measured them yourself: what setup and parameters were used ?
@TimTheEngineer96
@TimTheEngineer96 7 күн бұрын
Great reminder thanks, I’ve just updated the description! Note that I didn’t use any coefficient of friction graphs because I couldn’t find any papers that compare the filaments reliably. Although it’s widely accepted that Nylon has low friction in industry.

Cool, some nice mods there. Only thing i can see is that top does not seem to fit (i can see the light leakage at the front which means air / heat leakage) and also its too low. I used my p1s for quite a few months low down like yours before making a much bigger extension on the top because the ptfe tube hits and rubs agenst the top. Its left pits and scratches in my top part and the ptfe tube has rubbed itself down flat on one side. Also just wondering did you heat up the printer before printing the nilon? Maybe i missed you saying you did? Cheers for the video.
@TimTheEngineer96
@TimTheEngineer96 5 күн бұрын
Thanks for the info! Your right I’ve started seeing the ptfe tube scraping. I’m thinking I might change it for the high temp ptfe that came with the pneumatic fittings I’ve linked in the description. Hopefully won’t wear as much. I would say one of the cons is this design is indeed not air tight like you mentioned, but so far I havent seen any other warping since installing the enclosure! I did heat up the enclosure slightly, but I found that by the time you get to those top layers away from the bed, the air has warmed up enough even without preheating it.
