Big note on the films: which ones to use will depend more on the housing on your switches than your desired thockiness. For high quality switches with smaller housing tolerances you probably want to avoid going any thicker than 0.15 (for Tealios I think 0.12 is actually better), anything thicker and you're just increasing strain on the tensioners instead of removing more rattle.

what would u recommend for yellows/gat blacks/ink blacks
@dooterino
@dooterino 3 жыл бұрын
@@avalanchefrog8500 I think .15 would suit the gateron housing fine without introducing strain, though if you don't want as much thock .12 will effect the pitch less. I just recently used .15 films on some Tealios V2s and I'm extremely pleased with the results. The housing is gateron branded but I don't know if that just means they used refurbed molds or if they're straight from gateron, though.

@zand6969
@zand6969 3 жыл бұрын
I recently got some TX films (0.125 mm i think) to try on some Gat Yellows and they made the housing not able to close properly and the top housing would probably pop off at some point if I keep them on, so no films for those.
@dooterino
@dooterino 3 жыл бұрын
@@zand6969 You must've gotten an amazing production batch, .12 should fit in just about any switch housing. In cases like that films aren't necessary, housing rattle would be at a minimum. So I guess the best advice is to buy more switches than you need and do some lube and film tests with the extras to determine the best course of action.

For keeb lovers looking for a thockier sound profile, i would highly suggest trying out a FR4(same material as pcbs) plate or polycarbonate plate. The more flexible, softer plate material really makes the downward key strokes more bassy, and overall “thockier”, when compared to the metal plates (brass, aluminium)

I'm really enjoying this series on your 1st custom mech keeb. I built the same model, the KBDFans 75v2, so it's been quite relevant for me. On the topic of a adding foam, either with the KBDFans own foam insert or instead of it - I have a suggestion. Use a custom cut piece of Sorbothane. I used 2 different thickness - 1/8" and 1/10"; one being 40 Duro, the other 50 Duro (I specifically did this since there is a cutout on the inside of the bottom plate of the 75v2 & I wanted my sorbothane insert to fit perfectly). If you want to keep things simpler; a single 6'x12' sheet of 40 Duro Sorbothane will do the job. It is the ultimate sound & vibration dampening material. I even added some to the inside of my spacebar & both Shift keys. It worked wonders! I love the deep, low 'thockiness' of my keeb without any added ping from any of the plastic parts (keycaps, stabs, etc).

Clip in stabilizers aren't always bad, the main issue is they are prone to popping out of the PCB if handled incorrectly during transport. The main difference you noticed is most likely due to not band aid modding your stabs.

Have you watched Nathan's subathon ? At some point, there was an entire discussion going on about lubing stabs. Plug the butt is definitely the way to go, BUT i have to agree with Nathan .. 1) you have more control injecting it rather than stuffing it and 2) using 205g0 is just more refined . I got those same injection needles from his Amazon storefront, and they are very good indeed. I even filled one of the needles with dielectric grease. I used that specific grease-needle to fill the hole that holds the bend of the stab-bar itself. Normally, when you grease up the bend of the bar with a brush , and you then force-click it into the hole, then the grease gets pushed up and to the sides. Injecting the hole with grease FIRST will allow the bar to be "dropped" into the greased-up hole. Hope you can visualize this a bit,

Regarding foam for the keyboard, I was thinking that flexi Seal liquid might be a nice new option for insulating and helping with sound on keyboards. You can paint it on and make it as thin or thick as you want and you can build it up in more recessed areas and even paint the sides a bit. Maybe on my next keyboard.
