I finally got around to changing out the old Solex for a Weber setup on the Giulia Ti. I also fitted a 123Ignition distributor.

Yes - thanks for not overlaying the natural, ambient audio of your auto shop with some music track. A real auto enthusiast isn't bored enough by what you're showing to need any audio distraction. You had my complete attention the whole time. Great stuff.

Never been into Alfa's, but love old Japanese cars and after watching this I get why people love them. Old cars have so much soul and character. Twin cam was very advanced for its time.

The Toyota Corrola with the twin cam would have been fun, not sure if it was a 1600, .mine was a twin choke 1600 and pretty fast,, but it wasn't the twin cam

Wow!! My parents had a 1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super 1.6. That car was classic and amazing. I grew up in that car and my brother (who was 2 when it was purchased) learned to drive in it. I later learned that the 1.6 liter, 4 cyl, twin cam, twin 2 barrel carb, engine was actually a Maserati engine. That car was a gem. I miss it so much.

Strike 86 I would be more than happy to rock a Giulia from the 60s. Ever since I saw my first one I have been in love with the most beautiful small sedan/coupe ever in my opinion. It manages not to be boxy in any way and they just have such a sexy appeal. Don’t know if I will ever be able to own one, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed as I work to build a big garage. Chapeau for the beautiful car, I envy you.

Seeing your car brought back fond memories of driving and working on my mother in law's nearly new '73 giulia super which had 1600 cc and dell'ortos. I recall the original plugs were the type with a larger central electrode and 4 (non-adjustable) earthing contacts. I know they later went "twin-spark" so I had thought the engine was a bit fussy about the spark plugs.

@@JethroBronner you never know that might be a stain glass light box coming your way. I Love Italian cars and to see a young guy going for it is very heart warming. Good things come to people with that attitude. My avitar is a glass panel example. I fancy doing some heraldry so the Logo will be good practice. The welding may not look nice but I like that you gave it a go. Mechanic also 36 and UK is getting tricky for younger people to get into classics. I wish I had an Alfa from that era. I also think it's fantastic an older Alfa mechanic is helping and guiding you. Greetings from Scotland

Jethro you do some of the best car, garage, video shooting and editing work on youtube IMHO. Seriously it's almost too good. LOL. I know you must have a lot of work and things your life entails but if I could have it my way you'd be doing this full time and would be the Alfa man of the web. Or even combine your gifts and abilities, experience etc with some other Alfa masters and maybe even Fiats of the old days etc and create a European Race spec version of 1320 video. Where they all have their own channels but under one bigger conglomerate so that they have the independence yet the advantages of each other and the money from the whole and advertisers etc to do what they want or need to get to do their dreams. Anyway just wishing we could have more of you and your videos! Thank you for the hard work and great content!

Hi Jethro thank you for taking the time to film the work. Very informative. I recently changed my saab 9000 spark plugs with ngk plugs. You putting grease on the threads made me think should I have done the same. I have concluded not. Your garage and the Alfa’s inside are a car enthusiasts dream. My mum had 2 gt’s in the 1970’s from new. Dad loved driving them . Quizzing mum today she seems to have no realisation that she was so lucky to drive and own them. Keep up the good work. Best wishes from England. Mark

Hi Mark . The reason why Jethro put a bit of grease on the spark plug threads Hi Mark . The reason why Jethro put a bit of grease on the spark plug threads is because Alfa 105 heads are notorious for seized spark plugs if they are installed without grease. The best grease is copper based grease or molybdenum grease. Never over tighten spark plugs on these cars

if you see bp6ey's get them, they have the electrode groove that tries to keep the spark in the center for longer, otherwise indentical to the ES. Also NGK plugs are gapped 0.8 factory, unless denoted by a -numberhere for example a bpr6es-11 is a 1.1 gapped plug, where as a bpr6es is 0.8

Not sure your solution for the additional water feed is too good (just spanning the hole with a waxed paper gasket) but I may have misunderstood. Otherwise I am very impressed with your mechanical skills. I assume you balanced the 2 carbs somewhere along the way. Previous gearbox overhaul was extremely impressive, certainly something I would not tackle
@JethroBronner
@JethroBronner 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah the weird thing about that extra hole is that the factory solution seems to be just covering it up. I did balance the carbs by matching the valves by looking through the progression drillings, that usually is an accurate way to get them in sync, unless your shafts are twisted.

Hi Jethro, I recently got a 1967 1600 TI pig which is in great nick really but it won't start. the engine turns and there's a spark, the spark plugs are dry. I had recently replaced the mechanical fuel pump, lines and filter, and the carb refurbished because it would not start. Now after being parked in the dry for a month, I have exactly the same issue. The guys at Stalder & Moser are great but having the car collected would cost me a fortune again.There isn't that much information on the internet on the Solex, which is why I would like to pick your experience.
