As far as the cloths go, you can actually make custom ones using paper and some marker. I’ve never done it but I’ve seen people do it. Really helps to nail down accuracy even further.

I actually tried that and it is pretty easy. I found a template online and used scissors and a leather hole puncher to create the holes and it works pretty good but it is very fragile

Yeah, you can just get some miniature modeling fabric and an x-acto knife and make like a hundred in one afternoon.

You could take it even farther by using construction paper with a print on them. Will last alot longer if your using it for stop motion films or for mocs. Only problem is creating the print for the paper and having it printed. Best way to do it is to do all the designs your wanting for accessories and fill the whole page with it and then cut out for each one

A much better upgrade for the sniper is to use a tranquilliser piece, adding a lightsaber piece to the top in grey works so well :)

Those plastic ones were awful, they limited the leg poseability so much and you couldn’t bring the arms all the way down

@@sandwichdude97 yeah, this is why they sucked. They looked cool, but for functionality’s sake the cloth waist capes are perfect, as well as that you can print on the cloth waist capes easier

Awesome additions on both ends. That pouch on the heavy gunner is amazing with the folds. Even gives the look of a flap to open/close!

Both versions are great. Without question, the custom is a better deal for those who want to upgrade their battle pack. I just wished the sets came with the waistcapes and pauldrons in the first place. One of my early Lego Star Wars sets was the 7255 General Grievous Chase. Both Grievous and Obi Wan came with capes in that set. Still bugs me they are suddenly removing cloth accessories, when they've always been in playsets.

Those official LEGO capes are absurdly expensive, I definitely prefer the custom versions of the minifigures as they’re more affordable and look the most accurate. Great video, David, looking forward to the next Geonosis update!

Nice work on the custom figs. Love the brickarms rifles. I use them a lot too. I added a touch of weathering to mine with some watered down black acrylic paint. I much prefer the battle hardened look.

For the waistcape, I’ve also tried using the dark blue one that came with Alfred from the Lego Batman Movie Batcave set. It’s a different shape from usual Star Wars waistcapes, but is an ideal colour.

Good video and great additions to this set on both official lego and custom pieces. Only nitpick I have is that the specialist doesnt use a sniper variant of the DC-15 but instead a Valken-38X. The scoped version of the DC-15 you showed in the video should go to the heavies since you can use that variant in Battlefront 2 on heavy

first thing i did was switch the helmets. there’s more blue printing on the heavy helmets and i think it looks better on the officer and specialist cause the visor adds enough blue to make them look good

I do agree preferring capes and accessories like that but even if it's not your first Lego set, putting those capes on can be a pain sometimes

I had white leg cape pieces from old snow trooper sets that I used for the officers and heavies, looks pretty solid with the custom rotary cannons I made. Probably going to buy those custom upgrader kits though

Though i understand your point, i remember always getting capes and the cloth shoulder pieces for my clones when i was like 5 or 6 and i loved doing them despite them being difficult for me at the time

Very nice cloths. But I will say the officer could benefit more from an ep 3 style waste cape then a CW style to match the printing style.

If we get a new Captain Rex and he doesn't have a kama or a pauldron, I hope minifigsforu makes some for him as well. I'm not Always for completely custom figs, but I think reproducing the capes that aren't around much anymore is really awesome.

You dont need that pauldron for the heavy since he doesn't have an actual pauldron, just that little shoulder pice, wich is so small that it is enough if it is printed.

For the waist capes, I'm probably going to make my own with paper and markers, much cheaper, you can create any design you want and still look good,

One way to improve the the custom ones is to get arm printing which I should be getting a pack of UV printed arms very soon (from firestartoys) I might get custom capes but I was unaware that these eshould have capes

I feel like dual molded legs are the best choice for waist capes. Molded plastic removes the ability to pose legs, the hard cloth will get damaged from sitting, soft cloth would look terrible, and removing the waist cape is cumbersome. The cloth pauldrons look a bit wierd. I think dual molding would help here, too. The custom cloth pieces are cool, but I hate custom molded weapons. They don't fit lego's style. Although, they aren't as bad as CAC's action figure helmets.

Sorry but I have to disagree. If the cloth kamas look weird then the printed ones are terrible, and you can sit down clone troopers with kamas without damaging the kamas. Tho u can have ur opinion

I definitely have a wild mix of 501st clones all thats left is waiting for January and hope the battlepack will have regular P2 Clones, i betcha adults buy more battlepacks than kids and for adults they should definitely take care of authenticity, i mean were are the major selling factor after all.

only thing I would say is there is no reason to add the pauldron because that particular harness setup the heavies wear doesn’t have a full pauldron as part of the gear also a custom visor would be a big improvement but idk if they’re incompatible now because of the new helmet design

The only upgrade that I swore I'd never do to my Lego was sharpie on the macrobinoculars. I broke my morals and the result is just too good. You just fill in the front face of the piece.

What kids find it hard to put the capes on the figures. I can see the waist one but the pauldron is very simple to do & like kids have parents they usaully will end up having build most of the sets when they are really young I remember my first 3 Lego star wars sets where the escape pod that came with the sand troopers & R2D2 & C3PO as well as the sand speeder & finally the millennium falcon. & my dad built pretty much the whole thing.

Lol I also thought of the idea with the pouch, but I wanted to have the backpack too, sooooo I cut the strap on the back off. Not my proudest moment, and although it sits kinda loose, it does look good on display.

While the upgrades are good to make the minifigures in the 501st battlepack look better, I'll stick with how LEGO made them. The only thing I'll be upgrading is the cannon, particularly the leg joins on the artillery cannon set to make a bit more sturdy.

The custom is awesome. I absolutely love it. Love the content. But could you pls not forget about us Canadian fans when doing whatnot. Again you the best David keep it up. Have already stolen some great technics to build my 6 yr olds and my Mocs.

I gave my Officer a black spare kama i had, the spare Binoculars and a DC-15 now i use him as a 501st seargent for my 501st Army and i must say he looks bad ass with the kama and the binocs. (when i saw the set with the binocs i immediately wanted to build an umbara moc cuz yea)

I think that Paper is "canon" as Lego Purist due to the Lego Hole Puncher, so making Kamas out of Construction Paper is still purist if you're good with an exacto knife lol

Maybe they omitted the kamas cause the material frays over time. However, they could use the new cape material. I think the plastic kamas and pauldrons are something we should go back to if that is the issue rather than printed ones.

The heavy trooper should not have a pauldron piece as the trooper doesn't have a full sized pauldron, only a small piece of extra shoulder armor, and Lego has always printed the satchel on EVERY airborne trooper so I don't know why people are complaining about this set not having a physical satchel piece.

On behalf of the Waist Capes: I think everyone needs to realize, that it is on purpose. Think, why would Lego release the PERFECT minifig of each figure? They release different variations so we have something to complain about each time. Unless Star Wars Lego literally ends, they will never release a full set of "perfect" figs bc variations will sell more than a perfect figure in every set that includes said figure.
