UPGRADING THE AUDI R8 AUDIO SYSTEM

Watch as I carry out the first stage of a full system upgrade on this Audi R8. The system's focus is sound quality as always, whilst maintaining an OEM appearance throughout. I'll be installing a fully active system with a 3 way Audison Voce component kit upfront, an Audison F8.9 Bit amplifier with a built-in DSP and a double din stereo with a custom double din fascia.
This video highlights the first stage in this installation, covering the custom made CNC machined speaker adapters, wiring and installation.

Don't know if you've seen it, but Scosche (and possible Tesa) make the fabric tape in like a 1.5" width. A rep dropped off some samples and it makes wrapping harnesses so much faster.

Have a factory Concert radio that sucks.... so this comes in real handy. Nice vid and keep us posted. Any suggestion on main unit?

Thanks Paul! My typical two go to units are the Pioneer SPH-DA230DAB and the Pioneer AVH-Z9200DAB. The first offers Apple CarPlay and full Android Auto and everything else you'd expect. The second is the same but has a better screen and has wireless Apple CarPlay (android Auto still requires a cable). Part 3 should be done fairly soon which covers the stereo installation and creation of the fascia so keep an eye out for that!

@@RTAFabrication Cheers. Looking forward to this... Any comment on Alpine Halo 9? Single din that fits into a double. as it tilts and is height adjustable, it sticks out a bit so it should go over the dash nicely and should not be in front of the vents either. Bigger screen and maybe a few more RMS's on top for the front speakers. Hmmm.

nice work. I'm trying to understand what value the coax behind the seats add. To me, those coax speakers are going to intefere with the forward staging of the 3 way setup in the front. I don't see any real value in adding them behind so close. The system isn't likely going to be running Dolby 5.1 is it? There's no value to surround in this setup that I can see.

Thanks Salil. You're correct, it was advised that these weren't used in the system but the customer wanted them included. What I suggested was to disable them/ remove them and use the channels these occupied on the amplifier up front, allowing me to bridge the 6.5" speakers. As they were amplified, I did have control via the DSP so I was able to manipulate them to some extent, as the position of the rear left speaker in relation to the drivers seat was exactly on axis which made the rear left speaker very dominant in comparison to the rear right, which was blocked by the rear of the drivers seat. After tuning, reducing their output and balancing out the response (between the two drivers), we were left with more of a rear-fill type set up with those.

Thanks for watching! Since this video I brought a Creality CR-10 S4, with a 400x400x400mm build volume which I’ve also done a few upgrades to. My next purchase will be a large SLA printer as that’d be really handy for certain parts that are difficult to cnc and that require little prep work after.
