The AD409 is a great digital microscope for PCB or Lab use. In this video I go over the setup and basic functions of the AD409 as well as what I like about it and where it could improve.

Nice video and comments on apps. I'm an Andonstar fan and have two. Recommend them to many.

Very cool. I have something similar that I use almost every day because I have a visual disability. Mine is a CCTV Magnifier called the Onyx HD by a company called Freedom Scientific. I solder under mine all the time.

Nice to see it is a metal base on the microscope, makes adding a proper piece of ESD mat very convenient for professional work. Makes the Inspex and Tagarnos I've used in the lab previously seem as over priced as they really are in a bang for buck comparison.

Hi mate, your pretty on point with this item, you can go for the cheaper andonstar ad208, although it lacks the hdmi, it runs on a 18650, as well as power, great unit, and has helped my old eyes too, keep up the great videos 🤙🏼🇦🇺

I'm only 34 but I've got a microscope for soldering as well. Soldering 0402 components is definitely a challenge without it

This is pretty sweet, if not a bit out of my price range.🙂 One question for you: Was it difficult adjusting to looking at what you're working on on the display as opposed to looking at the items themselves, especially at it relates to hand-eye coordination?

For about 5 minutes then the brain kicks in and you're good. Just takes some practice. They also carry less expensive models another user pointed out.

Okay, old video now but I believe by now a year later, you would have worked out that you have the microscope tube part too far down. It needs to be set up so the red line is just above the clamp. You then rough adjust using the wheel at the back, lock that into place then rotate the microscope body to fine focus on the job. The wheel and lift assembly looks exactly like my (smaller screened) Andonstar so that means it has a sloppy lift mechanism, an obvious fault which really should have been designed out of it by now. Mine has all your bigger screen features minus the screen real estate and 4K but seriously one doesn't need 4k - it's a marketing gimmick. Like you, I absolutely need this to work on smd stuff. But, I can mange with the smaller 7" screen without having to connect up to my 24" monitor. So that 10" screen would come in handy as an all-in-one solution I reckon. Great product for the price and I recommend these to anybody who works on fine stuff and have eyes that have seen better days - pun intended.

According to all the marketing images on Andonstar's very own website, the tube gets inserted all the way down, and not just above the red line. Where did you see this information?

I am looking for a good microscope, mainly for coins, and been looking at this one, but also Tomlov DM602 and others. I find it very difficult to co compare the various microscopes, so it is a challenge to make a decision. Both Tomlov and Adonstar looks great. Do you have experience with the Tomlov one?

$400.00 will buy a good printer and an endoscope. Nice machine for a man that makes a living with a soldering iron. Not so good for a maker. I do know what you mean about the smd surgery. Without extra eyes I can barely see the components let alone the numbers. Thanks for the review, Happy soldering.;-).

They do have a number of other models (others have mentioned as cheap as $60). I get it though it's certainly not a small investment and as I mentioned I was grateful to be able to review one otherwise it would be unlikely that I would buy one as well. Thanks for watching Danny.

If the price here is too steep, get yourself a microscope camera with an articulating arm mount instead. Once you're going this route instead, you can pic one with a 48mm thread, so you can buy affordable barlow lenses, filters etc. Then just use any old monitor with low input latency as output. This is a pretty good piece of kit, but if you don't need a big built-in screen, then you can get similar results for a lot less money. That 10" display on this model is a pretty pricey piece, not a bargain bin chinese crapola part.

that same company makes reasonably priced ones.. how come you did not review them in comparison. I mean I can buy a Andonstar microscope from $60 all the way up to the Cadillac you presented at $600. Are the cheaper ones not good enough for us part time repairers?

@@johnmichaels4330 $399 US and $500 CND. You can't be that naive. He gets it for free, he gives it a review but does not compare it to any others. He links and gets a percentage if you buy one. That is not a review, its an ad. A true review is done when several products are compared and the reviewer purchased the product and is not making a cut from sales. Maybe you should be mad too. A simple question. What is he reviewing it against. How can you rate something when you only check one of hundreds? Defend him some more, I would as he scams you and everyone else.

@@samjones1954 hmmm I think the problem here is terminology. In the states a review is comprised of using a product and telling others the good and bad of it along with features and critiquing it. In fact, it's like an evaluation and that is a synonym in the thesaurus. A comparison is where 2 or more objects are compared and contrasted in a critical (good or bad) way. Both definitions can be found at dictionary. Com . I found this to be a good review of the product. Not sure where any sort of naivety would have come into my response.... I was certainly not naive enough to take your $600 claim at face value. Maybe a little less anger and more grace would make your life happier

The screen is too big and the center of mass is too high. Sometimes, smaller is better - REALLY!
@MakersMashup
@MakersMashup 3 жыл бұрын
I like the large screen but the center of mass is a bit high on this. You certainly could topple it over with a good push. The steel base though keeps it in place. Given this design though I may just bolt this to the back of workbench and leave it installed permanently.
