Belly of The Beast Cuba

Belly of The Beast Cuba

Liz Oliva Fernández travels to Washington, D.C., to find out why Joe Biden has embraced Donald Trump’s Cold War-era policy toward Cuba, devastating the island’s economy and fueling unprecedented migration to the U.S. border with Mexico.
Oliva Fernández interviews Rep. Jim McGovern, former CIA analyst Fulton Armstrong, and Cuban-American business executive Carlos Gutiérrez, who served as Secretary of Commerce under George W. Bush. Oliva Fernández shows how a handful of extremist Cuban-American politicians have dictated U.S. policy towards Cuba, including designating Cuba a State Sponsor of Terrorism without any evidence.

Hang in there Liz, your excellent reporting is not done in vain. We had an opportunity to finally visit Cuba when President Obama lifted the sanctions and we spoke to many of the residents there. All were beautiful, strong and resilient! It’s only a matter of time before Cuba finally rises up and overcomes the evil, racist and corrupt US embargo. If Afro-Cubans weren’t the majority suffering with the Embargo, trust and believe, U.S. policy makers and the white Cubans in Florida would have “normalized” relations and the embargo would have ended, if implemented at all, DECADES ago!🤨

I disagree. Too many of us don’t pay this stuff any kind if it is in Spanish. This is good that it’s a person from Cuba speaking English. I mean no disrespect.

As one of the Black residents of DC stated and others referenced, it's very much about colonialism and racism. The US government and its politicians are in service of themselves, the rich, and multinational corporations, and are collective determined to maintain and concentrate power, resources, wealth, and attention on themselves and their "interests". A lot of people in the US have been over this for a very long time, and I think more people are participating in mutual aid and seeking alternatives outside of capitalism and the system presented by the ruling class. Capitalism in the US only serves the ruling class, and as it stands, the US doesn't even have a democracy. Someone told me we have more of a "kleptocratic plutocracy", a government that consists of the rich and steals from the people, and this makes 100% sense. The ruling class of the US wants control, control of Cuba and control of its citizens and the world as a whole.

Cuba has two blockades. One from the Cuban government against Cuban people and the other one is the American government against Cuba.

there is no equivalency -- the cuban govt does it's best for its people with the resources they have. the US govt does its best to harm the cuban people (not the govt) the charges of human or civil rights violations is simply a ridiculous excuse the US govt uses. My second book, CUba Under Siege, addresses that directly. The only political policy against the Cuban people is American.
