I had a session where we did a maybe 30 minute combat and then the party proceeded to talk about the entire backstory of one of the members. All I did was show them what an abyssal chicken was. That was almost 2 hours. It was amazing. Edit: I did get to have a sinister moment where they noticed a spy escaping just before they could catch them for the end! So I got some fun dm fuckery

I’m loving this, I played a Humblewood adjacent game with a DM who let me play as a Timber Rattlesnake Bard named Sssssylvaine, her rattle and voice were her instruments and her only “magical” ability was imbibing her songs with venom. Most of her skills were performance and persuasion and charisma was her highest stat to combat the fear of snakes that the townsfolk all had.

I'm a competitive Irish dancer, and so many of the tunes in this are ones I've danced to lol. Having the music be songs I've been dancing to for ~16 years makes it feel super nostalgic/cozy, and that while things like The Fireball Incident are happening is such an entertaining vibe.
