Correct answer -- Option (b) -- 3^21 Option (c) -- 4^18 can be written as 2^2×18 = 2^36 Option (d) -- 8^12 can be written as 2^3×12 = 2^36 As we can see above, Option (c) and Option (d) are equal, and hence they cannot be the answer. Option (a) -- 2^40 And 2^40 > 2^36 (Option c and d) So Option (a) also cannot be the answer as we have to find the smallest number. So, the answer is Option (b) which is 3^21. How can u say that 3 raised to power 21 is smaller that 2 raised to power 40.

Looking at the options, (c) and (d) cannot be the answer as they both are equal to 2 raised to power 36, and option (a) is 2 raised to power 40, which is greater than 2 raised to power 36, so to find the smallest option, we are left with only 3 raised to power 21. @@civilashram it is asked smallest number so when dividing all with 10 only 3^21 comes with answer 1 so 1 is the smallest number. 21 divided by 10 = 1 remainder
