Purchased my system from you and just love it. The new Prima Luna preamp is stellar! Just added JBL 4425's to the system so now I can have Focal 1028be, JBL's or both. Had the good fortune to meet the sound engineer for the Mormon Tabernacle and Conference Center. He was stunned at how good the system sounded. "Your speakers are placed so that you are hearing everything the way the recording engineer intended." I am one happy camper. Thanks, Kevin.

Hi Kevin great videos keep up the good work, the drive unit you refer to is called a dual concentric driver meaning the bass unit and the tweeter are combined in one unit. I worked in the HIFI industry in the UK in 1975-1978 we had tannoy speakers they were outstanding we sold loads of their speakers but the Cheviots were my favourites by miles. The sound they produced for their size was incredible they were a great alternative to the then popular JBL Century L100, which we also sold, you must hear these speakers in a system to fully appreciate them they are outstanding. Happy hifi from the UK

Kevin being American pronounces the Cheviots wrong. He says "Shiviots" when you and I know it should be "Cheeviots" as in the Cheviot mountains between Scotland and England. I am Scottish, you are English and as Del Boy would say "you know it makes sense"

Funny video, those speakers are some real lookers. I'm sure they sound even better. A few years back I recall seeing an ad in Sereophile I believe was from Upscale Audio. It had a guy laying on a couch as if in a psychiatrist's office. The advertisement asked viewers if they were "tube curious"? A year ago I was throwing out some stereo magazines and rememberd that hilarious ad but couldn't find it. I was gonna frame it and hang on a wall. Maybe it was an advertisement from Acoustic Sounds I'm not sure. Anyway the world can never have too many laughs.

Hey yeah if i had to name the brands that went into the peak of jazz, fusion, rock & prog analog recording - RCA, Tannoy, Studer, Ampex, Telefunken, AKG, Altec, Neve, MCI, EV, Scully - don't really know how Mahavishnu or The Who got their reverb, but it's to die for For me the mind-blower LP (once pressed) was Visions of the Emerald Beyond - Borboletta by Santana a close second, as Airto's percussion re=plants a rainforest - bass guitar is loud, but at Santana live show 6 June 75 in Moncton NB I discovered, David Brown & Carlos dug it that way. When I finally heard McLaughlin live with band 3 years later, he surpassed that Santana show for sound mix quality.. JM did it to me again in 1989 Place des Arts with trio - a dreamworld of tone & echoes.
@Aswaguespack4 жыл бұрын
andrew gillis Santana’s Borboletta is one of my all time favorite LP’s. The artistry is on a very high level and a excellent Quality recording of a level well above most typical recordings. It’s been one of my favorite LP’s (yes! Vinyl!!!) and one I’ve used to introduce many to a “real” Carlos Santana experience. 😉 Stanley Clarke’s “Journey to Love” has an acoustic set with McLaughlin, Chick Corea, and himself on acoustic bass on “Song to John” (a Coltrane tribute) that is wonderful. Another favorite LP! 👍🏻

Great. I love how much passion you feel about your Cheviots. I own a vintage pair in excellent condition. I mean the cabinet everything was good except the girdacoustic foam wich it was rotten. (I know these mine are "Alnico magnets" but your new ones are not.) I couldn't get the original foam but they did the replacement anyway. They are from 1978. I drive them with a Yamaha amp. Ax 492. I know they deserve a better amp. The yamaha reveals a little fake sound in treble feequencies but i compensate this at lowering the Energy control at point below the flat position and in that position they sound amazing. The only thing thst call myself the attention is that one speaker says 315 A and the other it says 315 B. But inside the driver it reads 315 A. Maybe they belong to another pair. The series number is very different one from the other. There were another pair when ive got these... i dont know if the capacitors must be replaced. I dont courage to do that. They sounds amazing that way. I dont wanna lost that exquisite sound. Femenine voices are incredible reproduced. Sorry for my long long comments. I wish you can be here or me there to listen to a lot music!!!

The original Cheviot speaker; manufactured in the 1970’s used the pepper pot driver design; the same driver design as used in the current, Tannoy Kensington Prestige speaker line that Kevin also sells. Today, Tannoy can only justify including the more complex, hence costlier to manufacture, pepper pot driver on its most upmarket speakers, hence the current Cheviot speaker - under the Tannoy Legacy line, uses the cheaper, but still great sounding, tulip waveguide driver.
@philpembroke53736 жыл бұрын
The pepper pot and tulip waveguide monikers refer to the different tweeter designs, not the surrounding bass driver.
@MrSoymilk24 жыл бұрын
The old drivers were less coherent in the treble. These new ones resolve better up high. Also helped by the use of magnesium in the tweeters. Its not a cost savings decision. Just newer tech.
