A simple example of the Back Projection method used for Computed Tomography (CT) image reconstruction.
Created by the Centre for Advanced Imaging within The University of Queensland, www.cai.uq.edu.au . As a leading imaging research facility in Australia, and one of a handful in the world, CAI brings together the skills of critical mass of researchers and state-of-the-art, world or Australian first research imaging instruments. Our equipment is used to image people, animals, plants and objects for scientific research. Our capabilities include Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Computed Tomography, Positron Emission Tomography, Cyclotron and Radiochemistry and Electron Paramagnetic Resonance.

I can see these videos are 8 years back... Excellent videos. I would recommend you guys to start uploading medical imaging videos again with theoretical concepts, practical coding and latest research happening like in medical image processing, visualisation, AI and deep learning. It would become best medical imaging youtube channel.

Why do we need to subtract 18 after adding all the values from the projections?

lol. After wasting 30mins looking for a simple explanation - this is it!!! Thank you! Wish you had added a little blurp at the end about iterative reconstruction and how that is different. Thanks.

why do we remove the sum of the the values from the first projection (18) from all of the pixel values in the image before averaging?
