Nice to see this! I'm guessing there was some sugar in the dough as well. One idea to experiment is to put a little cardamom seeds and small cinnamon stick in a coffee grinder and powder them. Then add some of that powder into the flour when preparing the donut batter... with sugar of course. Also since you all like the icing sugar on top of the donut, try making a sugar paste/slurry... for that you would simply mix icing sugar in some warm water and dissolve and keep adding until a paste like consistency is achieved.. then with a spatula or brush paint the slurry over each donut... if you add some food coloring in the slurry.. kids might find it fun too! You would need to paint a thin layer of slurry only on each donut... avoid a thick coating. Not sure if you still get Milo in Fiji... but you could make slurry with some icing sugar and warm water with that too. Just some things to experiment with the kids 😄 To make the donut fluffy, perhaps use baking powder as well.
