"We are concerned about people not only having access to fresh, healthy, affordable food, but we are concerned about people having control of the food system. Particularly, in a city like Detroit, which is majority African-American, if we look at the grocery stores, there's only one small African-American-owned grocery store. So, we see an extractive food economy happening." - Malik Yakini, executive director of Detroit Black Community Food Security Network
Watch the full video, featuring Yakini, along with Gwen Meyer, co-owner of Coriander Kitchen and Farms, and Jerry Hebron, executive director of Oakland Avenue Urban Farms. They discuss their efforts to maintain urban neighborhoods and the significance of produce for non-profit and for-profit growers. Additionally, they share how they are fostering harmony among various groups striving for a more equitable and socially just food system.

A smart community project that will succeed because it's social consciousness is driving the effort and not profit motivations. Now Prosperity is a great motive, but that does not put money first, as money is the tool for transaction, but not the goal to accumulate money.
