In 1981, I talked to Stu Thomson bmx champion. I asked him how could I improve on getting faster? He said, "Work on your starts and take off the brakes." He said."Once you get used to being out of control. That's when you're in control."

Very helpful description of the handling differences. I want something to feel more bmx than my full-sus mtb, so 27.5 it is. I want to buy something nimble for basic tricks and wheelies that I am happy to take around town on the streets.
@Assistint3 жыл бұрын
thanks for the vid. I'm late on the trend of big bikes. But always have been a bicycle rider and I've rode motorcycles for a decade now. Looking forward to get my first big bike. This was very helpful and informative. I'm 6'0 but think I'm still going to get a 26"-27.5" bike, though I'm not in to tricks. Looking to cruise and wheelie. But alot of cruising with some wheelies on the way. Thanks again for the vid!
@UrbanMisfit3 жыл бұрын
Hell yeah right on. Yeah 27.5 definitely have a more comfy ride for cruising . Thanks for watching 👊

It's a higher center of mass on the 29, meaning when you get into a lean, you cut back much harder on them because it feels heavier being higher on the same lean angle. Geometry helps you learn everything easier.
@F1ow3rzzk Жыл бұрын
So are you saying 29 is easier to wheelie ?
@tellemimdoinbeetswa Жыл бұрын
@@F1ow3rzzk nah its heavier and depending on your height it just makes wheelies harder

I never realized how heavy these bike were. My 29” enduro with 170mm in the front and 160mm in the rear is only 1lbs heavier. They sure are cool though, I wouldn’t mind having one for some cruising around town.

Good info! Interesting how all the new 29” se bikes have gained 3+ lbs. guessing a lot of it has to do with the wider forks and wider chain stays to accommodate 2.8 tires more easily.
@UrbanMisfit3 жыл бұрын
I think you’re right about the weight. They also have wider hoops on the wheels too. Fork is a heavier gauge too I think.

If your worried about running hydro disc due to being stranded, check out the TRP HY/RD Cable-Actuated Hydraulic Disc Brake, you run a whatever cable pull lever you want and cable all the way down to the sealed hydro caliper that’s cable actuated . That way you ever snap your cable the nearest bike shop or you homie should have a cable , instead of trying to find someone with hydro line, the right Ferrells and brake fluid, then have to bleed them!
@UrbanMisfit3 жыл бұрын
Aye that sounds dope! I’m definitely gunna have to look into those for sure. Best of both worlds 🤘

Great video I took a lot from it… I’m going to keep it real I suck at wheelies on bicycles yet can ride my dirtbikes out which is strange anyway I want to practice my wheelie game… I have new trek Marlin 8 with 29s and love how fast the wheels spin and being 6’4” il prob do 29 even tho the 27 sounds nice.. I’m getting old so will prob get a 29 fast ripper for the gears lol. Thanks brother
@mikehunt95453 жыл бұрын
Now that I've finally had enough time on the 27.5 I can definitely say that a 27.5 is easier to get the wheel up than a 29, but so far the 29 feels easier to stay up. Could come from the fact that I've had more riding time on a 29 than the 27.5 though
@UrbanMisfit3 жыл бұрын
The 27.5 balance point is typically taller or closer to 12 O’clock vs 29 balance point which is typically lower because the frames are longer on the 29.

I have different kinds of both and it overall depends on what you want, if you just wanna fuck around or have a smooth ride do 275 or if you wanna swerve or send combos most 29s will work, especially a monster quad
@F1ow3rzzk Жыл бұрын
It’s the opposite, for a smooth ride get a 29 and for swerving and stuff get a 27.5

Sup bro, I’m thinking about grabbing the maniacc flyer after being on the blue and orange big flyer for a while. I’m 6’5 and don’t combo, just straight up wheelies and was wondering if getting shorter crank arms would help as far as creating for pedal space on the bike? Just thinking about doing this because I’d hate to have my seat super high 😂😂
@suprzena33310 ай бұрын
your gonna have to have the seat high, the cranks won’t effect it that much. if you shorten them you loose pedal momentum

The balance point is hardly affected. We're talking 1.5" height difference. The balance point is more affected by the circumference of the wheel which is, again, minimal. Another thing to consider is lateral stability. As in side to side movement and how much the wheel can tolerate before resembling a taco. Magura brake is dope. I wish i could put one up front as well.

@@Anth230 It might be that in practice, but the Big Ripper, OM Flyer and Big Flyer 29er ship with pegs. I saw a video where Steezy was recommending against pegs on the Fast Ripper and a few bikes (maybe monster Quad)- I think it was something about the axles not being cut out for it in that particular bike's case.
