Exploring Abandoned Animal House
Another older home that resides on the Livingston Property. This is the third house that resides on an abandoned private road. Built in the late 1800s, this narrow farm house has been sitting vacant for many years. Just like the other house I was out, I returned to this one for a second look. If you remember, this house was the one where a cat ran out in front of me. The property is owned by a developer with no plans at the moment. Mr. Livingston was a famous individual in the area at the time. The entire property has been deemed historical and the developer cannot demolish anything on it. What I do believe though is the developer is waiting for the places to fall in on themselves so they can be demolished.

True I have almost never heard of a developer restoring or conserving a protected national house. Too bad they don't. I wonder if this is the oldest house on the original property? It sure looks 1820's log type dogtrot style, German or Dutch. the walls are too thin for it to be, but the design was what they wanted then. This building hasn't gone as fast as I thought it would in that climate !! It is holding up to the neglect well. A freeze / thaw cycle with out the water breaking the basement and not much peeling of the paint compared to before for a years time. Great follow-up video Steve, thank you very much.

you seem so nice and humble; as if these homes were somehow connected to you! I love the way you explore, and your pictures are breathtaking. I hope that one day you can find a way to get all of your pictures into print; a nice little coffee table book if you will. you definitely have the talent...don't let it go to waste!! and most importantly - stay safe out there. respirators, gloves, boots, etc. =)

I'm in love with this little house, it's the windows on two sides! But I bet it would cost a fortune to keep it warm in the winter. This is definitely perfect for a small family, or... a family in the 1800's with 8 kids or so. No birth control back then, so a proper house should have had the three floors. I had ancestors in rural MI who had 18 kids (2 sets of twins), so you can see why they needed all the rooms. Extended family (eldest son) may have lived in this one. The set up closely resembles the family farm dwelling clusters where all the families were somehow related, and houses were built later as kids got married, or elder in-laws moved closer so the could be cared for. Typical in rural areas, I have lots of family that still live like that. You could check out the US Census to see who was living in all the houses at it's heyday. Another great video, thanks!

That place is extremely narrow bot looking from the front makes you think its huge! Kind of weird looking at these old houses imagining what they were like when new. Maybe a young couple in a different time...a different world moving in their new home. All their plans,,,hopes and dreams. They never would have dreamed of it looking like this. Wow that was deep! ; )

I would love to have the mantels, trim, etc. before the house falls down or they knock it down. Developers and even some people that want to tear down and rebuild use that let it rot plan to get rid of old historical places. Some cities have passed laws saying you can't do "demolition by neglect". The building inspectors make the owners keep them intact and fixed and not rotting away even if nobody lives in them.

Hi Steve . Great job as usual . My first encounter with an animal was a naked man running out a window .But great tour for sure .I was in Philly and its suburbs last weekend and also went to trenton . I saw alot of sadly neglected 1700s buildings abandoned and easily accessible in Trenton especially . Some of the very poor areas of Philly have places that are not renovated .Brooklyn NY is like that as well . I was actually thinking of taking a train there and explore china town on a very empty stomach .

Not a mansion but still a fairly large house and an unusual layout in that most if not all of the house is only one room wide. It would be great to somehow find out why the house was built with the rooms not in what might be called a cluster as with so many houses but in a row. The arrangement here does allow for a lot of natural light. Though the house here isn't exactly the same I'm reminded of how some of the very old plantation houses in the deep South had rooms in and to go from one to another you had to go out onto the porch or verandah and even the stairs were outside; there no hallways. If the house you explored here got moved to Indiana and got fixed up I wouldn't mind moving in! Also: I noticed a fireplace down in the basement. Didn't look big enough for kitchen use. Another mystery/interesting story for this house!

Such a shame and a waste of a really nice home! It appears that it had been lived in a bit more recently because of the electric stove coils on the kitchen counter? I'll bet the feces is animal, it would seem an animal would go up to feel safe, but I think perhaps a homeless person would want a safer place, one with an alternate exit? Lovely job of showing us about! My first visit to your site, I enjoyed it! Thanks!
