Exploring Abandoned Brady House
** Folks, this is not the Brady Bunch House.. The previous owner was William Brady which is why its called the Brady House. This house has nothing to do with the movie....
Built in the the late 1950s, this abandoned house is much newer than what I typically film. As you all know I am more of a historical home type of person but this one was pretty cool. A very long driveway with the sign, "OPEN HOUSE" was out front so I decided to drive down. When I arrived, this is what I saw, an open house! After doing some research which was tough, the land this house resides on was recently bought by a developer. The house will be torn down. There is hundreds of acres of land and just this one house. Almost like it was a model home and no one was interested. Hope you all enjoy!

There is something about an abandoned home, that leaves me cold. Imagine the births, party's, cookouts, laughter, crying, weddings, divorces, fights, hugs, funerals, ....time is ticking away. It stops for no one . I've been seeing all the people I've known since birth, there one day, gone the next,..then another family moves in...and it's different now.No one wants to know their neighbors anymore.It's a different world.We had abandoned houses to play in when I was a kid.That was fun, now there are new homes where they once stood.

you sound like me! i watch these videos and I cant help but imagine what the homes looked like when they were lived in and in my mind I can see families gathering together to celebrate birthdays or anniversary's -- or kids laughing and playing within the rooms and mothers feverishly making meals from scratch.........then something happens and time stop there and all thats left is memories. my god I get so sentimental over homes -- even ones that arent mine.

I totally agree! It is too bad that the home won't be rehabilitated and fixed up. To me it actually looking like the place isn't in too bad a shape.

Such a shame. That house was so well-planned. Each room had purpose and it was perfect for a good-sized family, and the exterior was beautiful with the stone. Most new homes just don't have that any more.

Very sad. I cant help to wonder how many children grew up in this house. How many family gatherings, bbqs, and parties? This empty house was once a home and now it lays empty and forgotten.

Thank you for posting this, Steve. I would like three things: (1) To be able to go back in time & see that home new; (2) To know the history of the house & the family who lived there (but, then, maybe NOT); (3) To see it restored instead of torn down!

Oh #RoscoPColtrane - Boy do I ever know what you mean. My house is 13 years old and it needs...get this... A new roof (shingles have been a nightmare, keep replacing and they keep coming off), plumbing work, lifted on one side (is sinking badly), electrical work (can't use the electrical outlets in the livingroom at all), flooring is horrible in the livingroom area as well (boards coming up, nails are popping through the carpet in places)...and this is just to name a few. When we bought it (brand new) none of these things were happening, or at least they weren't showing at the time. Everything i've mentioned here has been fixed, partially replaced or torn out and completely redone all together. A lot of money spent and nothing solved. Finally sold this place a few weeks ago and moving out, bought another house (older) but in far, far better shape than this one we sold.

I sometimes walk through homes in my neighborhood when they're under construction. The quality is a total joke. They just slap them together as quickly as they can and the only thing they're worried about regarding quality is making sure it doesn't fall down in one day. My parents' house is barely 10 years old and already has cracks in two places in the ceiling and several window sills are so badly warped that the paint is cracking on them. The window sills look like they're already 80 years old.

We're all on the same wave length. That's a solid well built house. It's definitely worth remodeling. The hard wood floors and the Austin Stone cut rock exterior makes it a classic. I love that house.

Thats a Thermador cooktop...started in 1947 and used primarily in homes from 1955 to 1965. If you look up Eichler homes, you will discover that Thermador cooktops and wall ovens were used in these high end homes that were built between 55 and 65. This home appears custom built and they spared no cost if they had Thermador appliances...but it gives a time frame. Thermador cooktops and wall ovens are still manufactured but they are far more expensive. At least this gives a better time frame. Shame this house is going to be destroyed. Someone built this house with their heart and intended to spend the rest of their lives there. Perhaps they did...

Wow. Imagine what this house must have been like when it was new....and the family moved in.....It must have been quite expensive in it's time. There's even a trash compactor in the kitchen. And spacious, like you said.

Nice kitchen, all 1950s original. I can take a guess at what happened to it. A developer brought a nice old house with a lot of land. He'll tear it down and replace it with 50 modern cheap crap homes, and make 10 or 20 million dollars of profit.

Oddly enough the 50's was the beginning of suburban cookie cutter houses, but as time went on they got worse and worse.

As a huge fan of mid-century homes, all I can say is what a gem! Awesome kitchen, bathroom and flooring. I wish more people respected original features and history enough to save a home like this. I am saddened. It's all about putting up as many cookie-cutter, granite filled homes that are practically stacked on top of one another. Thanks for the tour! I definitely appreciate my home that was built in 1963... most of which is original! :)

What a beautiful home just left there to rot. That house had great bones and easily could have been restored. Sad to hear that they tore it down to build newer flimsier houses made of cheap materials that they'll charge 10 times the amount of what that house was worth even in it's better days.

Once upon a time that would have been a beautiful house. It's so sad that nothing was salvaged. All of the original tile work is a thing of the past. They don't even make it anymore.

First stop is the tax assessors office to get the name of the owner. Courthouse records will also provide a lot of info about the owner. Neighbors can be helpful - these properties are unusual, and many locals will know the whole story. Documenting the backstory would add that extra dimension that everybody would like to know.

I always think of the personal histories that are contained inside the walls of these old abandoned homes. Like, who lived there, what was the family like, why did they move away, etc.

I didn't like this home at first, but it grew on me as I saw all the many different rooms and compartments. I fantasized about what I'd do with each room, newly decorating and repairs. There's alot of choices with this one. I'm saving this video in my history. All your work is good, and interesting, Steve.

If the house could talk. How many Christmas's, birthdays, graduations, etc, were celebrated over the years. Now it awaits the wrecking crew. Life goes on though. There may well have been an older house on the site that was torn down to make way for the modern 50's.

Unit 38 I always think of those sort of things as well and it tugs at your heart strings. This house has a heart and you may imagine the all American family celebrating their first Christmas there in 1959 or so.

I, too, saw the last name Brady and thought there was a connection to the famous Brady Bunch on one level or another. Sure, Brady is a common name but the most famous Brady family of all directly occurred to me.

It really is shame that no one would have taken advantage of buying this type of home and fixing it up. This house is the perfect size and the features are those found in custom homes of that era. The fifties were great! Too bad modern builders do not feature custom touches like the built-in bookcases or custom appliances without paying extra! Classic custom homes were a commodity, for sure! Loved the tour.

COOL!!! Steady cam skills, nice speed panning, showed inside closets. Showed bathrooms (which are always interesting) gave number of bedrooms and organized tour. FIRE THE MAID!!! Did you see the GREASE on the cooktop and oven? WHOA!!! I like that they closed the toilet lid too.

I agree with most of the comments here, I especially agree with Tony Thatcher. This house does indeed have a lovely layout and could definitely be fixed up. It's roomy and spacious. I love the size of the living room and kitchen. Something like this I could be real creative with. I would love to own it. The right company could purchase, restore and sell and make a really good profit. A home like this is worth saving.

peter lloyd - Not really surprising, especially considering that most buildings built since the mid 1970s aren't made to last. I've done restoration work on Colonial and Victorian era houses - and prefer older houses due to superior construction methods and materials.

That's such a shame that's it's been left go like that....with some work it'd be a really nice house. They built houses to last back in the day. Now it'll be torn down and replaced with some prefab messes....sad to see it happen.

What a dream home this one must have been - It's sad -So many people would like to fix it up and move in. Your filming is awesome - Thank you for sharing this one! I think the previous comments are right on - a beautiful home purchased by a developer who plans to make a bundle on it by building condensed housing or condos… at least that's what is happening in Ontario. Farms and country homes are fast disappearing from our landscape to make room for condensed housing and new highways.

All through the video I couldn’t help imagining the all house fixed up... those hedges in the front neatly trimmed.. every thing cleaned up and put back into order.. We tear down things to easily anymore.... I think of Stotesbury Mansion and it’s magnificence even after years of decay and vandalism... which by the way would have been a great subject matter for you Steve..

Looks like beautiful stone work on the outside. If it is, I wonder if they will try to save any of it to re-use. Would be a waste, if not saved. However, it it's the slap it up on the side of the house with "false" stonework, it wouldn't matter. But I would think because of the quality of work on the inside, that too would be quality. I've always liked the sporty ranches, raised ranches, bi-levels and split levels! I grew up in a raised ranch and then my wife and I bought a ranch, and then a split level but unlike this one, ours was built in '76! There was no expense spared in building this house! I love the arched tunnel between the dining room and the living room! That allowed a thicker wall to house the fireplace and the four shelving units! Too bad that it was domoed to build a residential development! A real estate agency in our area buys run down ranches and their derivatives and renovates them and sells them for small profits!

So depressing. Such a beautiful home. All things considered this wasn't in such bad condition and for less that it will cost to tear it down and build a new house this one could be renovated. Thanks for documenting this for us. I love these old school style homes.

That was once a beautiful home - that kitchen was huge with commercial grade stove etc. those rooms are big- probably a foreclosure - and not a dam ghost in sight, lol. Thanks Steve!

Hey Steve, you should've checked out all those newspapers just to get a frame of reference for possibly how long it's been empty. To me, if it was built in the 5o's, it had some remodeling in the 70's and has been empty, maybe 20-25 years.

Once developers decide to buy in an area any standing houses are usually toast. The house looks like a split level or back split and they were built in the 50's and 60's and still are. These people had money, so big house, lots of bedrooms, big kitchen. The kitchen and especially the baths do use the mid century style and tiles and fixtures. The built-ins are a different style and I like them too. Beautiful wood floors. I hope someone deconstucts and salvages at least part of it.

it's sad that a house like that was abandoned. A lot of the features looked they were really nice when they were cleaned up. The windows looked updated at some point. I hate to see stuff like that go to waste.

Steve should tell us more about what is seen on the floor, what types of documents those were. If that is all that remains of the possession, it is of interest to us.

That is a nice house. The kitchen reminds me of my old kitchen in my old 1947 home before I remodeled it. The end of the counter top with the rounded off shelves was popular back then.

I agree with the poster below. There are some unique characteristics on the interior that will sadly be torn down and most likely be replaced with cookie cutter houses.

Wow thank you for the tour and the memories. As you were walking through the house it just brought back all those memories of when I was a child and use to sit in front of my TV every day and watch The Brady Bunch. As you walked through each room I could remember what it looked like when I use to watch the show and boy I tell ya..it still looks the same now as it did then minus the damage, but it still reminded me of all those episodes they shot and filmed right there in that actual house. Amazing! Thanks again for the video and the memories. I loved it! 😊❤

It never fails to make me sick, sad and angry to see beautiful homes, mansions and other buildings go to ruin like this. I would give my eye teeth to have any of so many of the houses I see on this and other channels like this. So many people without and those with so much that could help would rather see it go to hell than to loose a buck to meet a need. I am not saying this is the thing behind all of it but it is behind more than it should. It's just sad.

+Abandoned Steve (Historical - Urbex) that's what I thought. But I saw your posting that said abandoned Brady house and my brain went right to thinking it's the Brady bunch house. LoL silly I know

Jennifer Winchester I didn’t think the Brady House was real . Cause remember they never had a bathroom w a toilet and shower lol I thought it was just on set made to look like a real house . ????

Deana, at the beginning of each episode, they showed a shot of the "Brady" house from the street and it was a real house on a real street, and real people lived there and still do. But everything after that establishing shot in the show was just a big set; all of the rooms, the garage, driveway, back yard (complete with astroturf for grass and Tiger's empty dog house), all fake.

yea from checking out certain things in the house, the dates range from 2010 to 2012

I would love to salvage the steel cabinets in the kitchen and the vintage sinks in the 2 restrooms. A beautiful home once upon a time thank you for the explore.

I love the bathroom! most likely original and from the 1950s...I do think it was a rich persons home. you have to remember that homes back then only came with 1 bathroom...2 was not the norm. the kitchen has be somewhat original...definitely meant to show off the wealth of the owner with two ovens and so spacious. check out retro renovation website for more info on homes built in the 1950s. thanks for sharing this house with us!

I agree: from the size, the number of bathrooms and bedrooms, the stonework and built-in shelving, the front entrance, this is the home of someone affluent. I can imagine the lady of the house wore Jacqueline Kennedy-style clothes and that there was a Cadillac with fins in the garage or maybe a Lincoln-Continental, the kind whose front and back doors handles were next to each other along the side and the doors opening out in different directions.

I agree also! Would you bet that the couple also belonged to a country club too? That was very posh back in those days. The man of the house probably went golfing every weekend and the woman held her club and society meetings in their Mad Men era living room. Or at least I envision it being decorated that way.

Wow! Bet this house was beautiful in its day!! Kind of sad how developers come in and buy up property without a care in the world for how much someone loves their home :( Some developers are bullies...plain and simple

Another excellent tour!! Thanks Steve!! I believe out of all the homes you have shown us, I could live in this one. The layout and room sizes are perfect. During the explore I'm getting ready to get a broom and dustpan a start in on it.. :-)
