She's much larger than Ariel and Ariel is about the size of a petite human woman, so... yeah, Ursula was really big, especially given that she's meant to be an octopus or squid.

When Disney was planning this ride, it was said it would be on real water and have a HUGE towering Ursula in the water. It would have scared me as an adult.. I can't image a child being rocked around in water by a 40 foot Ursula in the dark..

I WAS IN THE OPENING CAST OF THE ORIGINAL FANTASMIC AT DISNEYLAND IN CALIFORNIA AND I WAS AT THE CONTROLS OF THE FIRST ANIMATED URSULA IN THAT SHOW . THE TECHNOLOGY HAS COME SO FAR SINCE THOSE FIRST DAYS AT THE CONTROLS BEING A PART OF THE DISNEY MAGIC IS AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE AND I AM PROUD TO BE A FORMER CAST MEMBER !!!

Oh now I know how she makes those facial expressions. Edit: last year was the first time I went to Disney World, I loved this ride! Sadly, the part where the ride quickly stops made me stop *right after I saw Ursula.* And I was sad after one of my favorites Stitch’s Great Escape closed down, at least I experienced a extinct ride!

Ursula is incredibly round and smooth for a villain, compared to a normal disney villain which has sharp edges

For a character like Ursula or The Beast ( who are exagerated and unrealistic characters) i think it works perfectly for animatronics,but for more human looking characters ( like all the disney princes and princesses) it's a little wierd and would be better with actors in my opinion.

They have the same Ursula in Florida and when I went there, the ride got stopped while I was right in front of Ursula. I was the kid who was afraid of his part in the movie and I must say that those effects were so good that even at the age of 13 I was freaking out as she stared right at me.
