I remember the days when the first US Airways livery started to appear. When the airline was USAir, that was the good ol' days when you could fly nonstop from Pittsburgh to pretty much anywhere.

+Lisbon Sasori The cactus callsign was gone a while back actually :7 . The US Airways livery will still remain as a heritage livery at least, I believe.

After America West Airlines was taken over by US Airways, the latter airline took on the "Cactus" call sign (US Airways moved its headquarters from Charlotte to Phoenix in 2006) and kept it until the airline was absorbed by American Airlines on November 1, 2015.

What major airlines do we have left? Alaska, American, Delta, United, and Southwest? I wouldn't be surprised if someone comes along in a couple years or so and buys out Allegiant or Spirit. (Well, I take that back. No one in the right mind would buy out Spirit)

I was a Flight Attendant with them from the mid 80’s to the late 90’s ... we really were a great big family and I got to see the world with that job. I remember when we got the 76 from piedmont we stated flying to Frankfurt and we had a pretty darn nice FC service ... I remember working trips from PHL-DFW and not only did we serve hot meals in the back , but ice cream sandwiches and before landing hot towels and that was in economy! Ever since 911 the greed started and everything turned to the hell we have today ....when I fly I only go FC and it’s shameful .... We had good times and great people back then ......
@luv2fly7453 жыл бұрын
THIS!! There was flying before 9/11 and then whatever you call the travesty of greed after. Sickening. Miss USAir especially in PIT.
@derekobidowski33015 жыл бұрын
US airways originated in pittsburgh was a hub there till 2004. with the county rejecting their request to lower landing fees. they shifted all hub operations left Pittsburgh entirely to Philadelphia as they made good on their threat. with the merger of United Airlines Philadelphia is now the largest International hub for American now. when Us Airways left Pittsburgh their plane orders were going to an all airbus fleet but only the Boeing 757 is what they got left the time of the merger. the planes that served Pittsburgh they had quickly retired.

***** Don't forget the goal of any corporation is to maximize return to the share holders and to maximize pay for management. These corporate mergers are a means to boost share value, obtain loans on better terms, and to shift those funds to share holders and management.
@EricEbac226 жыл бұрын
Actually, it wasn't one airline purchasing the other; it was a merger. In 2009, when US Airways was facing its second round in Bankruptcy Court (Chapter 11), the airline began talks with American and started talking possible merger, which took place in March of 2009, with American taking full control after October 31, 2015.
@georgeespino9646 жыл бұрын
Are you kidding me? US AIr could not afford to buy out AA. That is why Doug Parker was scrounging all over the place to barrow money to buy out the airline and nobody would give it to him. And that is when the idea of a merger came in to play. At the time of the filing for bankruptcy AA had 4.5 billion in the bank that is why they never lost anything. That is why people who bought stock in American Airline after the bankruptcy filings made a killing, the stock plummeted from 34 dollars and change, all the way down to .21 cents a share, it was a buy opportunity, everyone I knew that listen to my advise were making 10,000 to 15,000 per day before they got out of bed. The only reason Doug Parker is CEO is because he tied his salary to The performance of AA stock, and he underbid all other applicants for the CEO job, also he made some deal with pilots union to help him get the job, he promised them the world.

Wow, nice video. As for former employee, I never realized they had operated the F-100. I don't know all the politics of this particular merger, but when you buy something, you don't take on the name of what you bought. You promote your own. I think "US Airways" would have sounded less political pun than "American" to the rest of the world. RIP US Airways.
@pyruvatepersonage8 жыл бұрын
+javacup912 You raise a strong point. According to my sources, US Airways Group, LLC. purchased the rights to the American airlines brand and US airways managment now cover most high-level positions in the "New American." Perhaps, as time passes, a movement away from the American name will occur. Hard to say, unlikely, but possible.

Nice video. But sorry, I won't miss this airline. After 300+ flights on many carriers since the 1970s, US always caused me some problem - lost luggage, missed connections, failed brakes, couldn't open pax door, hostile gate agents, smoke in the cabin, broken seatbelt. It was always something. As my son said, 'two crappy airlines just became one crappy airline.' Apologies to the US fans.

Good riddance to U.S. Airways. I actually think Tom Horton should have stayed CEO of American. Pre-reverse-merger US Airways stranded my family and I in a certain U.S. island state in the middle of the pacific, due to a planned schedule change and LIED about it.
