US authorities arrested about 50,000 Chinese nationals for illegal entry at America’s southern border between January 2023 and May 2024. Chinese migrants are the fastest-growing group illegally entering the US from Mexico, with their numbers spiking after China eased pandemic travel restrictions in late 2022. Most of the Chinese asylum seekers begin pursuing new lives in communities like Monterey Park, a Los Angeles suburb with a large Chinese community. The Post spoke with some of the new arrivals about the challenges they face in the US. Their experiences revealed a complex picture of migration, adaptation and American dreams at times fulfilled - yet often shattered.

Disillusioned about China’, more Chinese aim for US via risky Darien Gap In 2023, Chinese migrants become the largest group outside the Americas to cross the treacherous region to reach the US. * Behind her, signs explaining the hotel prices and policies are written in Mandarin. Pots of spicy instant noodles imported from China are for sale next to bottles of water. Payments via the Chinese social media app WeChat are accepted. * “They move along in their own separate world,” Fernandez said. The group of middle-aged travellers, wearing hats and carrying tents and walking poles, are dressed for a trek. But not everything quite adds up. Many are wearing lightweight Crocs footwear, and their small backpacks are wrapped in plastic bags. * Just over 25,000 of those migrants were Chinese, making them the fourth largest overall nationality and the largest outside of the Americas to making the crossing. * Chinese migrants - unlike many of the other most common nationalities in the Darien, such as Venezuelans and Haitians - often take special “VIP” routes across the jungle that are led by guides working for the Gulf Clan, Colombia’s largest drug cartel, and are quicker and less strenuous for higher prices than the most basic routes. Why we want to go to the United States’ * “Our requirements are very simple: We can afford medical treatment, have a place to live, our children can afford to go to school and our family can be safe.” * Some migrants interviewed by Zhou were misled to believe they could easily get a job for $10,000 in cash a month. However, the reality is that many are struggling to get jobs because employers are fearful of hiring undocumented workers. * “I was forced to do this,” Sheng said while sipping a cup of tea at his hotel in Necocli. “It’s really difficult for most Chinese people to apply for a visa to America. But I feel disillusioned about China. That’s why we’re here in the jungle.” Aljazeera

@@ksrawat88 Claiming asylum after crossing into the U.S. border means that you are asserting a legal right under international and U.S. law to seek refuge from persecution in your home country. When someone enters the U.S. and claims asylum, they are not immediately classified as an illegal immigrant because they are invoking a legal process to determine whether they qualify for refugee status or other forms of protection. This process involves interviews and assessments to determine the validity of their claim based on established criteria, such as fear of persecution due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. Seeking asylum does not guarantee approval, but it does afford individuals certain legal protections during the adjudication process. Therefore, the terminology "illegal immigrant" is not applicable to individuals who are actively pursuing asylum claims within the legal framework provided by U.S. immigration laws.

@RaymondHng
@RaymondHng 20 күн бұрын
@@ksrawat88 "Invading a country" refers to an act where one country's military forces enter another country's territory without permission from the government of that country. Individuals crossing the border are not military forces and they are not "invading a country". "Claiming asylum" refers to the process by which a person who is seeking international protection applies to be recognized as a refugee. This usually occurs when someone flees their own country due to fear of persecution or serious harm based on factors such as race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. When someone claims asylum, they are seeking legal recognition and protection in another country, asserting that they cannot return to their home country safely. Countries that are signatories to international agreements, such as the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol, have legal obligations to consider such claims and provide protection to those who qualify as refugees. The individual must file Form I-589, Application for Asylum and for Withholding of Removal. The applicant typically waits for several months to be scheduled for an interview with USCIS. The wait time can vary significantly based on the current caseload and processing times. Following the interview, USCIS usually takes some time to review the case and make a decision. This can range from a few weeks to several months, again depending on the specifics of the case and workload. If the application is denied, the applicant may have the option to appeal the decision, which can extend the process further. If the case is referred to immigration court (if the applicant is in removal proceedings), the timeline can also be prolonged.

It's very easy to look down upon the illegal immigrants, but nobody choose where they were born into. You can't blame or penalize people who want to seek a better life for themselves. The US is very wealthy, they can handle immigrants, they just need to have a way to funnel immigrants (legal or not) to the right place to contribute to the society, have them pay tax, increasing tax tevenue for government to pay for your old people's pension, that's a perfect scenario. It just requires political will and power to process and distribute immigrants. It is because of immigrations, the US is constantly growing. If u r in a position to look down upon illegal immigrants, take a look at your own privilege at the same time, u r already in a wealthy state taken care of by the world number one economy.

As the Chinese real estate market collapses and banks auction off houses, many Chinese unable to repay their loans are fleeing en masse. The concern is what actions they might take in the United States later.

Jokes on you, China doesnt allow illegal immigrants work in the country. Murica is the opposite. They allow those illegals work in the country as long as they pay taxes. If they worked 5 years and paying taxes nonstop, they will be awarded with a green card.

SPECIAL REPORT-How smuggled workers power"Made in China" The smuggling of illegal workers from Vietnam across the 1,400-km (840-mile) border into China is growing. Labour brokers estimate that tens of thousands work at factories in the Pearl River Delta, which abuts Hong Kong. Workers from other Southeast Asian nations are joining them. Visits by Reuters to a half-dozen factory towns in southern China revealed the employment of illegalworkers from Vietnam is widespread, and authorities often turn a blind eye to their presence. Workers from Myanmar and Laos were also discovered to be working in these areas. Reuters found that employers supply these illegalworkers with fake identity cards and sometimes confine them to factory compounds to keep them out of sight of the authorities. Reuters

Did you know that the Taiwanese government supported the HK protestors and promised they'd be welcome with open arms? Well, after the PRC cracked down on these Jan 6th rioters... oops I mean HK protestors, the rats started fleeing to Taiwan. Suprisingly (and unsurprisingly for those of us who don't consume Western media exclusively), the Taiwanese government, the ROC to be exact, started rejecting the applications of these HK asylum seekers.
