When I lived in the Galápagos Islands I swam with white tips and hammerheads. They were unaggressive because most times they came to the Galapagos to sleep in circles or to clean themselves. There has never been an accident.

Hi! Thanks for the video 🙏 I had a lucky escape from an 8 ft black tip reef shark 🦈 I’m an Aussie and we went out on a Yacht to the outer reef of the Great Barrier Reef. I was more scared of Irukandji than I was of sharks tbh. They are the tiniest jellyfish 🪼 that leave you in the most horrendous pain for days and possibly can kill you. The Box Jellyfish will kill you but I didn’t want a medivac from an Irukandji 😂 The water was perfectly blue 60 metres deep and clear all the way down. I thought I’d jump in and practice my snorkelling on the boat anchor chain. As I got off the stairs I happened to turn my head right and saw the shark heading straight for me with speed from underneath the boat! I nearly turned the water brown! 😂 I quickly turned back to the stairs yelling SHARK and others on the boat hoisted me out. The shark swam past the stairs looking for me I think? I honestly didn’t think reef sharks were much to worry about back then. I know better now. That’s my shark story. No bite even. I’m so glad I turned my head and looked because bloody goggles do obscure your side vision. 😂😢

spent a lot of free dive spear fishing time in the Bahamas. many encounters with sharks, most benign, but once in maguana (last island heading s to grand camans) 4 of us were spear fishing in about 30 feet of water. i was returning with a grouper to the dinghy in 3.5' of water when i saw about an 8'+ bull circling fast and headed at me. i stretched myself out length wise, spear in front. it literally flashed past me close enough to push me sideways. the other 3 divers swam toward me splashing, pulling his attention away from me. yes, there was blood in the water. most encounters if the shark were threatning, you could see their agitation. and don't bother thinking you can shoot or stab or outswim. remain calm, protective, ease to safety.

First off I enjoyed the video. We always had shark watches while we had swim call just for that reason. One thing your video did not mention about one of the U.S. Coast Guard's duties is Aids to Navigation. It's oftentimes overlooked because it's not a "pretty" part of the Coast Guard but it's an important part of the Coast Guard.

As a teenager, surfing with sharks was pretty normal because it pays to know your sharks and know the "rules". We never got out of the water unless there was a tiger shark with us. (Know your shapes) The cardinal rule was "no matter how small a cut to the body was, stay out of the water. On a different tangent, jellyfish were a bigger concern. Most of them were Man-o-war with the occasional box jellyfish.

@@jessicapizarro681blood 🩸 is blood 🩸…Best to have her avoid shark habitats during that time. If you google said topic you will find mixed answers, with the majority of women saying they “feel great” in the water during menstruation, and notice no difference in the behavior of sharks… However a woman’s “feelings” are just that, feelings… not facts… As I said before, blood 🩸 is blood 🩸, and different women have different amounts of bleeding during said time… While the chances of shark attacks are statistically very low, sharks have an incredible sense of smell and can sense a single drop of blood 🩸 in the water from miles away… Blood in the water makes sharks act more aggressive, which could pose an increased risk to not only her, but anyone in the water around her… There was a case where a mother helplessly watched her 21 y/o daughter get attacked in the Bahamas by a tigershark while swimming during her cycle… She unfortunately didn’t make it, and her mother nearly also didn’t make it… Why risk it and just plan accordingly??? Imagine someone getting bitten, or even worse, killed just because she couldn’t wait a few days… Men and women are biologically different, and certainly not “equal.” Just because us men are biologically superior in every way, including being able to swim/surf/scuba dive 24/7 365 days a year without attracting apex predators of the sea, you women have no right to essentially become human chumming machines, endangering other swimmers, just because you decided to be selfish and unsafe, and not wait until your menstruation 🩸 has ceased… 🌊🩸 🦈🩸 🏄🏻‍♀️🏊🏻‍♀️ 🩸🦈🩸🌊

I surf in Australia and have for 30 years now. From the frigid waters of South Australia to Western Australia, and now where I reside on the east coast of Northern rivers N.S.W. Australia. I have encountered sharks in the water at least a dozen times in my surfing life and seen them with the naked eye from the shore or standing on a reef another dozen times. Especially between the months of September to November. I've only ever felt like I was being viewed as prey twice. Most times they just seemed inquisitive or simply going about their business.

I lived in a beautiful place called Hervey Bay for most of my life. I would swim a lot in the ocean with my kids & we often went over to Fraser Island & played in the ocean there. The only time I ever saw sharks were when someone caught a thrasher shark from the pier, someone caught a large Bull shark 20km up the river near the abattoir & when standing on top of Indian Head on Fraser Island looking down & seeing about twenty sharks swimming around the bottom of the cliff. We do get Tiger sharks in Hervey Bay but in 5 years of working on the trawlers peeling sea scallops I never once saw a shark. Saw plenty of loggerhead turtles mating but never saw a shark. It isn’t recommended that you go swimming or surfing on the Eastern side of Frazer Island though cos the sharks in the surf will eat you. Sadly A man got eaten there a couple of years ago but I think he was spear fishing.

While surfing I have had several encounters from watching them swim by to seeing them attack fish and seals and including pulling a young Gremmie who was bitten by a shark in Southern California. I was surfing on the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier one night in the mid 70s when my girlfriend yelled down that a fisherman had just caught a 5 foot shark on the north side of the pier. She was asking me to get out of the water even though there were several of us surfing that night. I asked if the fisherman had kept the shark and she replied he had, at which I said “you are closer to it than I am” and I continued to catch a couple more waves before I finally went in.

I have run into several sharks in South Florida and the Keys since I arrived here in the Navy in Jan 67 - I was not spear fishing so they just stayed sleeping or swam by ignoring me as I did them - now Cudas is a different story - I am a underwater detectorist and the detector sound attracts them - you will hear there clicking sound and find them just staying still watching you - if you start digging to recover something they will come in at full speed to see what's in the hole to eat, you just push them away - they have never attempted to bite me - except for one time in 68 - I was at Bahia Honda before it was a State Park and still had only the old bridge - I was diving looking for treasure by Eyesite, no underwater detectors yet and the person I was diving with had a spear gun - there was this huge Cuda looking at me and he was behind it to left and point the gun at it and did not hear me scream NO - the spear bounce off its side as I pulled my knife - it hit my knife and was stunned - I had my back to the shore and started kicking as hard as I could - I think I got on a plane until I ran had aground - my knife and snorkel are still there and I never dove with him again - By the way that was my first encounter with a Cuda and I painted everything shiny black after that - I was 17 1/2 when I reported aboard my first Sub and still love being under water in my late 70'S

Coastguards save people that are in the sharks home 🙄 and we allow sharks to live 🤔

I think it’s more like the sharks allow us humans to live most of the time.

What I can’t understand is how scientists speak on behalf of animals that they’re studying? As HUMANS WE!!!! , Have Cultural, Racial , Political, Ethnically situations that WE!! can’t understand but because of HUMANS being more advocates FOR REASONS that are based on career rather than….. those reasons?? In other words. RACE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN REASON!!. Any activist would save their child before the animal that they trying to protect.

My husband is retired from the Coast Guard who spent his tour of duty policing US Waters. He has handled many boats that were carrying drugs and people who were illegally trying to get into the US. Today those who know that many illegals are by passing the southern border to obtain entry on a boat. The USCG is already providing the service to America that was created for maintain protection of the US waters as well as safety for boat owners. Who would agree to your ignorant comment.

I was intrigued from the picture, but 5 into this video and it’s just you talking, talking talking talking talking I apologize for my disrespect, but there’s millions of human beings in this world in this country alone with everything that’s going on who wants to sit there and listen to this I want to see the video get to the point.. best of luck and my apologies and yes, I made a screwed up remark and then apologize because I don’t mean to be a jerk but I’m not looking to waste my time just listening to somebody talk talk talk talk talk and then when I finally get to see what I want it only last 10 seconds or less

WOW it probably took you longer to type all that crap than it would’ve if you’d just fast forwarded the video to the part that you wanted to see. 99.9% of people on here were good just watching the video without being disrespectful but there’s always .1% who finds the tiniest little thing to be annoying. I feel you’re the .1%

Sharks are not apex predators, dummy, Orcas hunt them regularly. An apex predator is not hunted by another species- they are at the apex.
