These blue cities have all but banned self defense sadly. A bodega worker in NYC recently was violently attacked and stabbed and defended himself with a knife in the store to save his own life and he's now been charged with 2nd degree murder.

Part of the problem is that they don’t want whit officers anymore. That leaves out nearly half the country from recruitment. For minorities that want jobs there are so many hiring incentives all over that those people are not attracted to law enforcement

Not to mention as a minority to even express interest in law enforcement will tend to alienate themselves from a lot of their peers and community and some times even actual family. Speaking of my nation, the U.S. this shortage is well deserved. LEOs have been railroaded and disrespected for many years and this reached its apex in 2020. I don’t blame citizens for leaving the force or opting for other careers.

The recruiter going around telling potential applicants that they can change the department shouldn't be telling them that. First city councils are the ones to make changes even without any officers input. Second is the mayor and last is the police commissioner. Any other rank won't be able to make any changes.

Every new recruit or officer think they area a catalyst for change. After years of lies and deceit by crooks and their families, cops become cynical and know change cannot happen unless the culture of the community changes. Example - Ofc responds to a homicide and asks witnesses if they knew who committed the crime. Community - no one comes forward despite knowing the killer. Case goes unsolved. Sometimes revenge killings. Rinse and repeat for several generations. Partially distrust if the police. Mostly distrust of the community and a violation of social norms of being a snitch. And then everyone blames the cops for the crime rates and violence. I think police work is noble. However, there’s no incentive to be society’s punching bag.

If I were even considering becoming a police officer, I would ask the recruiter: will I be expected to follow orders that are blatantly unequal, even flagrantly unconstitutional? What about mayors and governors on a power trip, telling me to arrest person #1 for handing out flyers, while person #2 gets to burn down half the city for ideological/political reasons? Are mandates still in place? Why try to go through the academy and jump through all of those hoops, when following my conscience means I'll just get fired on day 1 anyway? We haven't even gotten to the daily disrespect from citizens, and the dangers of having to violently take down a perpetrator, just to be disciplined for "excessive force"? Is it even POSSIBLE to do this job properly in this day and age, or is the only option to be some jack-booted, rights-violating, robot???

Just watch the videos where there are 6 - 10 cops around traffic stops, calls due to persons recording with a camera, calls due to legal carry, etc, etc. Manage them properly and there will be plenty.

Well, don’t pass laws eliminating qualified immunity. No one wants their family sued for doing their job as they are directed to do by the law. The police are a part of the government. When the leaders officially discredit the police in general, they discredit themselves, and their own authority. Police in many places get paid little in money but like the community respect. Don’t take that away. Police have a minimum amount of calls they must respond to. Everything else is their own initiative. When you do the above things to the police, they take no risks and show no initiative. They have no interest in supporting those who hate them. Crime goes way up, but they STILL GET PAID.

I did inform the police that some bad shit was about to happen and they better get there before they got through my second door. I even called non emergency. They were already inside the garage. The dog and I were behind door number two. Door number two come open, all they got was growls, teeth and 190lbs of pissed viking with a tomahawk and pepper spray. The cops caught them exiting my driveway at a dead run. Too late to have helped do anything but clean up. I was cordial. Let them speak with the homes owner and identified in case they needed me in court. They did not press me. They were ridiculously cordial. They know who I am. They know I will let them do their actual job. But I don't take kindly to a**holes and will press back. I have no doubt there is note of this on my sheet. I fuck with them when and if they start fucking with me. So just be a pro.

Police officer shortage? Is that why at least half a dozen or mor police show up for every traffic stop? Every televised crime you see dozens of officers standing around talking. Seems like many times more police than we need.

Actually the police ratio to citizens is a crazy wide spread.. You're talking only 200-300 police officers for every city of a population over 60,000 in us.. and that's just average.. Police are out numbered now more then ever and I don't know the exact numbers but I know there are less police in America now more then ever and as for an American I am grateful for the 2A law that allows us to obtain firearms legally to protect my family from any outside tyrant or trouble.
