Chinese (both PRC and ROC) has claimed this area since 1945 after WW2 ended. US didn’t complain at that time, no relevance countries complain at that time. Those claimants are getting hold on the island when neither PRC nor ROC has strong navy to protect the island. Now they have strong navy to enforce their claim.
