Be careful about "could reload this." Mild steel has different thermal/pressure expansion/die workability metallurgical properties than brass that make reloading a serious safety kaboom gamble. Expert reloaders know how difficult quality control checks on steel/aluminum are and just opt out for trim & die resizing brass or fire forming close cousin cases with blank loads.

Reloading steel cases really isn't worth the trouble. We used to do it out of necessity back in the 80s & 90s. Absolutely no reason to reload steel 7.62X39 now days.

If it's boxer primed, I can't see why it would be a problem, x39 isn't a particularly high pressure load, and I'm sure you could get away with it till the necks split after 3 shots anyways.

Original spec: anti-rust coated mild Steel case, corrosive Berdan primed, dirty double base ball powder, magnetic copper plated steel core bullets, loaded less than 45K PSI. Commercial specs were even worse. If steel Boxer: western knock-off (i.e. Hornady). Still recommend against. Like Don said: "no reason to anymore."

@majinojinn I'm lucky enough I bought a lifetime supply of x39 back when it was so cheap you couldn't roll your own cheaper anyway 🤣 I know hornady made the boxer primed steel case before, and I k ow it was reloaded and can be done, but there is a decent supply of cheap brass case ammo these days, so other than a zombie apocalypse there really isn't a reason to do it.

Interesting, cannelure for bullet setback or rifling engaged? I wouldn't reload steel or aluminum case they get brittle after firing as opposed to brass which stretches

Could be to keep the jacket from fragmenting off too soon during penetration. Traditionally it's used for crimping and I can say these are crimped in TIGHT :)

@@donwyoming1936 It's insane!!! There is NO POINT to this product unless they upend the greedy, price gouging ammo market by selling it for 2019 prices (wolf/tula/golden tiger/silver bear etc fro 20 cents per round ($4 per box) OR LESS.
