I know all of the attention is on Emma Raducanu and rightfully so. Leylah Fernandez had an amazing tournament! She defeated three top 5 players and one top 20 player on her way to the finals. That is incredible! I wish both ladies the very best and a bright future in tennis.

I was rooting for Emma throughout the whole tournament. But after watching Leyla's phenomenal run of matches against Osaka, Kerber, Svitolina and Sabalenka, she has won me over and over. She has a never say die attitude and runs down every ball. Wishing you much success and trophies, Leyla!🙋🏻‍♂️

I'm glad she's also getting credit and publicity for doing so well.

Leylah Fernandez was also a winner this week. She showed how good a player she is by defeating so many top players. Like Emma, she seems totally grounded, family centered and has a wonderful demeanor. She has made a fan of me this week and i wish her nothing but the best. The biggest winner was women’s tennis.

Leyla's smile alone won me over already!

Raducanu won without question and made history as a first round qualifier to go all the way and win the whole tournament without breaking a set but there’s just something about Leylah that’s magnetic, magical and charming. Leylah deserves a lot of credit as well for having the tougher competition.

Both these girls are so lovely. Beautiful personalities and great sportswomen. In a way, they both deserved to win. they are a credit to not just the sport, but to humanity!

Emma and Leylah showed such poise and maturity on and off the court. Both are incredibly talented and are a true credit to womens tennis. I kinda feel bad for leylah the basically defeated half of the top 10, but in the end still lost in the finals I am sure she will prosper a lot tho :))))

As an Australian, its quite hard to decide which one to support considering that one is from Canada which is like our long lost cousin and one is from England which is like our distant relative. Both girls are great and hopefully we see them more in the finals in the near future.

I’m not sure if her full speech is online, but I was at the finals in person and after she finished her speech, she wanted to add something. She mentioned how she knew “today” (September 11th, the day of the finals that year) was a very hard day for American and for New York in particular. She said she hopes she can be as resilient as America has been. It was that moment that turned me from a Leylah supporter to a Leylah FAN. What a fantastic, humble, kind, wonderful person and player.

I stopped watching women’s tennis nearly 10 yrs now and so I don’t even know all these current and new players but soon as Leylah and Emma came to the public attention they just caught me and I guess will be back watching again but only if those 2 are on court. Both very good players and great watch.

Leylah Fernandez was born in Montreal, Quebec. Her father Jorge is from Ecuador and is a former soccer player. Her mother Irene is a Filipino Canadian. Her younger sister Bianca Jolie is also a tennis player

Leylah, in these two weeks I completely fell in love with you, your tennis and your personality :) I was so impressed with your active, assertive and very creative style of play - not only crushing forehand and precise backhand in all directions and any depth, but also these unexpected, perfectly placed dropshots (it could be your trademark!), confident volleys, selfless and smart defence and even your service, that helped you in many most crucial moments. But even more I was fascinated by the unique combination of adamant mentality and charming attitude. I honestly can't remember such a strong character since Justine: doesn't matter what score is on a table, what player's rank is on the other side - it literally took wrecked legs to defeat you. And the way you celebrate big points, the way you smile after saving matchpoints - yes, this is definitely your superpower :) So, congrats on the amazing tournament, happy to see you smile again, good luck in Indian Wells and many-many other big competitions. Gosh I love this player. She’s going to be so big for the sport. What I hate are these cheesy morning shows. They are so lame. The fake laughs and smiles. It’s probably real but it just never feels authentic to me.
