I sound like a spoiled Texan, but I can find Church’s Chicken only in Mexico, but sadly no Popeye’s Chicken, sooo yummy, guess they can’t find enough rude employees to work at a Popeyes in Mexico, most people are so nice. Also, boiled crawfish isn’t a thing in Mexico, obviously, sadly, same with Gumbo. I wonder if I made it if people would like it.

Steak sauce like 57, or A1. Also no K-cups of coffee for Keurig coffee machines (garage sell it before you move here). I take a variety of meds that only are available in doses that are half of my prescribed dose, so I get to double up on the pills to swallow every day (9 pills, yum). I would kill for some Twizzlers and some Max’s dill pickles.

The only things I really miss about the US are rye bread, Italian sausage, good, reasonably priced mozzarella, Swiss, and feta, and water pressure. I would miss chili-cheese fritos, but the limon y sal and chorizo y chipotle flavors are better, anyway. The endless selection of dirt-cheap juices more than makes up for the fact that there's only one store near me that occasionally has 4 or 5 tiny cans of Dr Pepper.

I live in Texas and had Mexican food all my life. Sour cream was not something we ever had with the food in our house. Never saw it being used in Mexico during our visits, either. As I got older and started going to local restaurants, I was so surprised at the many items that included it as a topping. I tried it once and it was just weird and unauthentic to me. To this day, if it's on the menu with any Mexican food item, I tell them to hold the sour cream.:-) Also, I prefer many of the HEB and Hill Country Fare products, in quality and price, over major brands. Those Texas Corn Dipper chips are actually made in Mexico and just as good or better than Fritos, btw.

I wear a size 14 EE shoe in most brands. I'm 75 yrs old and in my teens through 30s it was difficult to find size 13. Here in Mexico stores say they carry size 31.5, which is 14, but 31 is all I have found. And those are way too narrow also. I have to mail order shoes in the US and have them sent to one of my kids. Then they FedEx them to me. If they don't fit, I have to FedEx them back. But living in Cordoba, Veracruz is worth it.

It's true that you don't generally find American-style cucumber pickles in Mexico but they do eat pickled foods. It's common to find pickled radishes, onions, carrots, chiles, and other vegetables served as a relish with tacos or other dishes. Most people make these pickles at home so you might not find them in jars or cans at the store, but they are also common at restaurants that serve Mexican food.

No more mamey shakes for me after school, Nestle white chocolate bars, Churromais snacks, Crujitos, Rancheritos, Bimbo pastries, some of these came to the States much much later. I wonder how many more snacks I've forgotten that existed. And the Mexican food was not the same at all like it was for me in Mexico City, the Mexicans here were from other parts of the country that made things differently than what I was used to.

HEB has amazing knock off Cheez Its, also root beer, pickles, tater tots, refrigerated creamer (!!) etc....I'm shocked what I see at HEB. There is an American snack shop on our street. Vitamins (you CANNOT get more than 400 iu dosage of Vitamin D here) and supplements - yeah a different story. I just brought a bunch back from the US. But for the most part it comes down to finding them and how much are you willing to pay.

Sour cream is crema. You can normally order it by the kilo on a baggy by the cold meat section on every store. This is one thing people do locally everywhere in Mexico. It also has a fresh consistency because of that. Ketchup tastes different in Mexico. Ketchup is way way thicker and is made with cane sugar. Chorizo is almost an entirely different thing in Mexico. Cheese in general is a very hot topic anywhere you go. Cheese is made different from town to town to state to state. And everyone is proud of their cheese. You would not find people in my state of Sonora eating Oaxaca cheese although Oaxaca cheese is great. Cheese is made locally even by large stores. They buy from big creamery(cremerias) that source everything locally. You would never be caught dead buying cheddar down there. If you want different kinds of cheese you need to go to the fancy stores which may be far from where you live. It’s funny because i remember growing ip watching cooking shows wondering where all those interesting ingredients could be found. Then i moved to the US. Now i miss my cheese and my crema and my ketchup… lol. You mentioned chips… man i miss my chips…

Here in Oaxaca de Juarez, Chedraui Supermarket has an "international" section, where you can buy pickles. However, they no longer carry sweet pickle relish. It's about the only thing I miss from the US. When you can, buy local. Oaxaca has two families (maybe more) who make natural peanut butter - only peanuts and peanut oil. They are more expensive, but the product is delicious. Had to laugh when you said you stock up when you can - we all do that here, too! Good luck and happy shopping!

I live in Playa del Carmen, near Cancun; certainly driven by tourists with a lot of expats. I can find pickles at the larger groceries like Mega, Walmart, Chedraui, Soriana AND most usually only one or the other brands. The stores that have a specialty area is where you will usually find but I do see a brand or two, where the imported pickle relish is located. I have not seen a sweet pickle as we have in US other than a couple that are whole pickle, but they are different from what I am used to and not as sweet and occasionally bread and butter pickle slices. I get the sort of sweet pickles, rinse them off, and put a mixture of sugar and white vinegar in jar, turned daily, for a week or more, to make sweeter pickles. But the flavor is different from what we are used to. When I first moved to Mexico, 2017, pickles were almost imposible to find but it has gotten better. And, most of the larger groceries I can usually find dill relish and sometimes sweet pickle relish.

It's about the cucumbers -- or, rather, the lack of interest in them. The pickling process, however, is very much a part of Mexican cooking and all sorts of vegetables and fruits are pickled -- potatoes, carrots, chili peppers, cauliflower, squash, beans, nopales, mango, quince, etc. Those pickled onions in Yucatecan food are not to be missed! Vinegar is used in some, sour orange juice or lime juice in others. Maybe you could ask for the juice from the house escabeche to be added to your beer?

Maybe it's because I'm in Monterrey but most of this stuff is pretty common here. Pickles are very common, they are probably sold in any supermarket. Dr.pepper is also common, it's even in cherry and cream soda flavors, maybe not in every store and restaurant but it's sold in major supermarkets. Marinara sauce and nutritional yeast aren't hard to find (also found in the supermarket, or "natural" stores which aren't that rare). There are multiple lingerie brands here too (although idk, I do buy mine in the US since there's cuter and cheaper stuff there, the aerie and VS here is more expensive). There's also natural peanut butter (at least there's one in my fridge), and cheddar cheese is probably sold here too, I haven't shopped for it but I've eaten it many times. I do agree that tomato paste is harder to find, I mean, I've seen it at stores but it's pricier and there are very few options. I also agree with the cream options, it's very very limited, also it's not in this video but russet potatoes, I haven't seen them here. I know they can be found in Mexico though because a friend got some in another state, but they aren't that common. Also in mty I think those shoe sizes shouldn't be hard to find, but again, in Monterrey things might just be different, and it's near the US too so it's not hard to import stuff. I also think that in Guadalajara and CDMX it should be similar but idk.
