18/20...with a couple of issues: the white house was not oficially known as such until after Theodore Roosevelt designated it as such in 1901. Santa Fe may be the pldest city to become a state capitol but has only been one since 1912...semantics, perhaps? Stay safe everyone. Be kind to each other...peace

@@QuizBeezCom agree about Santa Fe. The question was improperly worded. I missed Ralph Bunche - didn't know he was African American, and the # of presidents who fought in the Civil War.

@@shmuli0613 Also, question 14: What is the most famous former occupation of the Presidents should have been "what is the most common..." I picked military general because it would have been a very famous occupation, if actor was a choice I would have picked it probably. 19 should have been worded "what is the oldest city in the US that later became a state capital?"

@@QuizBeezCom ...Although you are correct that Jefferson is the one most credited with writing the Declaration of Independence, the primary author was actually Thomas Paine, who couldn't take credit becuse he was an Englishman. They say there is a hand print on the back of the original, and most scholars believe it was Paine's as it was the only way he could sign it.

@@Tboy439 I did some research on this, and there is no conclusive evidence of whose handprint was on the back of it. Also, while Paine inspired Jefferson, it was Jefferson who wrote it. Finally, all of the drafters were Englishman. At the time of the drafting, there was no United States of America.

I am Brazilian and I love American and Brazilian history. I did 18/20!!! Bingo. About Christopher Columbus (Cristófero Colombo). He was an Italian navigator in the service of the Spanish crown who arrived in America on October 12, 1492. Hugs from Brazil.

technicaly Columbus never arrived in the USA. He landed in i believe it was the bahamas and on other voyages went to central and south america, so technically, that question should not be a part of a US quiz.

Columbus left the Old World on August 3, 1492, but he discovered America on October 12, 1492. For what it's worth, "discover" has four definitions. Columbus discovered America in the sense that he made it known to people who had not previously known of it, and he discovered America in the sense of finding it for himself.

@@brontewcat I had to think about that one for a moment. Both Columbus and Erikson made it known to people who had not previously known it, and each of the two found it for himself. But, as you say, Erikson was first.

Perhaps Jesus was first. Why did so many Indian tribes look to the East, the ocean for the coming of a white God, including the Aztecs? They thought the white Spanish were gods. That is one reason the Spanish were able to outwit them.

There was ambiguity some of the questions. 2-First capital was New York, and there was a White House there used as government offices; 5-There was a US flag on Surveyor 1, which soft landed on the moon in 1966, 3 years before Neil Armstrong landed; 18-Montpelier is the smallest but because it's only 10 sq mi, not because of its population; 19-Santa Fe is the oldest city that is currently a state capital, but since New Mexico didn't become a state until 1912, all of the other 3 cities are older capitals

And not the oldest U.S. city either as I know St. Augustine, FL was founded in 1565. Which I THINK is the oldest city, but I may be wrong on that.

I got the general gist of the Questions, even though some of them were improperly worded. The only one I didn't know off the top of my head was how many US Presidents were Civil War veterans (even though reading as the oldest state capital vs the oldest city to become a state capital lead to two different answers...which I knew both of) so I guess 20/21? It's odd that I attended public schools in California and learned far more English and French history than American. I wonder if schools emphasize American history more as you get closer to the states that were the original 13 colonies.
