US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has met with China's President on the third and final day of a visit fraught with tensions. The two nations disagree on a range of issues, from Ukraine to China's territorial claims. Biden said that an “immediate ceasefire is essential” and urged Israel to reach a deal with Hamas “without delay”, the White House said. The statement marked a sharp change in Biden's rhetoric and suggested, for what appears to be the first time, that strings could be attached to continued US support.Apr 4, 2024

@@Tropicalgodzilla Chinese diplomatic relations have put a ridiculously huge emphasis on face since ancient times. There's a famous story from the warring states era over how an official was infuriated because his counterpart from another state insisted he walked through a smaller door than the main door to their city. This was all deliberate. China wasn't aiming to negotiate with America, it was aiming to intimidate.

Let me translate Xi's words into plain English. US no longer has the capability to mess up with China. Hostile behaviors will cause responses from China and they will hurt US more than hurting China. A much better alternative for the US is to help China, for example just giving up on Taiwan, and in return China can provide appropriate help to the US on other issues.

Blinken was already a push-over when, in the opening statements in the meeting with Wang Yi, the latter reminded Blinken that that was Blinken's second trip to Beijing within a space of 10 months. Followed by a earful and a final warning from both Wang Yi and Xi. Blinken's press briefing will show whether he heard and understood what were being directed at him. But impressions count. @a5cent The US has a lien on licenses where US tech was involved and thru its laws, has managed to prevent China from buying semicon machineries or the latest chips. Thru geoplitical influences, the US has also managed to persuade other countries to stop supplying to China. Thru the same pressures, the US is now even pressuring ASML from servicing older lithography machines bought by China. Now thats a real chokehold. So why would China help US?
@a5cent

@@kn0wmore126 Define "chokehold". If you're suggesting the US is blackmailing Taiwan, essentially getting something out of them in return for acting like we'll defend Taiwan, then you at least need to provide some evidence for that.

Blinken saying that Russia would struggle against Ukraine without China's support is a lie, deliberate or otherwise. The US administration has overestimated NATO's MIC and military capacity while simultaneously underestimating Russia's MIC and military capacity. Russia will meet its SMO objectives with one (nuclear) hand held behind its back ie; one handed.

First of all, it is a WAR not a SMO. Second: yes, they will achieve their goal, because Russia will move the goalpost and lie wherever they want. Last month they even „achieved“ the goal of demilitarizing Ukraine whilst Ukraine having more military capabilities than before 2022. Whenever Putin thinks he h as killed enough Russians, he will tell his pawn that they won and they should better celebrate him, or else… Third: NATO MIC is centered around airpower and modern tech. Ukraine is supplied with small doses of mostly 1990 tech and Russia is only creeping forward a couple hundred meters a day, leaving behind a trail of dead Russians, burned out tanks and Chinese golf karts.

I'd like to answer US Researcher Bonnie S. Glaser's good question: Why does China produce so much? (I lived in that part of Virginia. I can almost imagine seeing you at a Trader Joe's.) Answer: This is the result of the free (international) trade advocated by the West until just recently. China produces in good quality and low price. Free trade encourages such producers. From a human perspective, the free trade is very reasonable. The US still practice free trade domestically.
