Not bad! Would be great if you can get some 7.62x54r API for your next test, to see how it compares to LTC’s 28550 or 28595. It’s a great plate at closeout prices. Sadly once they are gone, they are gone!

I dont know how accurate this info was but the m855a1 supposedly has a steel tip, copper jacket and a tin/bismuth core. I havent cracked one open to check but at some point I want to verify.

@@ezralee9662see my main comment. I’ll stand behind telling you that BBPP III+ are 100% good to go, I’d be comfortable taking them on rotation anywhere without an excessive risk of encountering api b32 from PKM’s. The difference between 8+ pound RMA plates and a plate coming in at or below 5lbs (s/m/l BBPP all meet this) is tremendous. Being winded in a gunfight is more likely to fuck you than being in a gunfight without plates at all. That doesn’t quite apply in cqb since your likelihood of taking hits increases exponentially but it’s outside the purview of what a civilian will do, the survival rate of civs breaching doors won’t ever be great and is not recommended.

I ran across some m855a1 at the guns show this weekend for 25 per 10 rounds… is this round worth the money over m855 ? You know for emergencies 🤔
@BuffRANGE
@BuffRANGE 11 ай бұрын
Make sure it’s not reloads (it will have a LC or WIN Headstamp with staked primers) but that’s fair value.
@GuNnErPAWN3D

Functionally it’s a far superior round to 855 both in penetration and yaw/accuracy. It’s not worth the market price as pretty much any ceramic plate can defeat both. They’re only expensive because virtually all a1 on the market was pocketed from the DoD and it can’t be sold by an FFL to the public due to the GCA prohibiting them from selling AP that can be used in “handguns” As a side note any excessive use of a1 or another exposed penetrator 5.56 causes excessive wear to m16 feed ramps without the correct magazine. M4 feed ramps are typically gtg with any mags although I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t be running g3 pmags by now. Gen 3 pmags, USGI EPM (tan body blue follower) and Surefeed E2 all have greater top round angle to clear m16 ramps.

$2.50 a shot is not horrible. They are a lot of fun. Not AP but I like them better than actual AP. They do lots of damage compared to m855 and penetrate certain objects better especially from short barrels and extended ranges.

If you plan to fight enemy wearing ~GOST 3(4?)/NIJ III hard armor, maybe. It also has better barrier performance and I believe there's something about more reliable wounds as opposed to M855's velocity dependence. However, given the normal HD context you'd be better off with decent JHP. Moreover, EPR is becoming threat crept as it leaks into the civil market and manufacturers meet edge cases.

7n39 has equal or less penetration than 855a1, anything that stops a1 will also stop 39. M995 is really the thing to have, basically every 855a1 rated protection passes 995 on the first or second hit, it’s some gnarly shit. I’ve seen 995 penetrate plates in 2 hits while those same plates ate both m2ap and api b32 no problem. It’ll smoke plenty of NIJ IV plates.

@@GuNnErPAWN3D That sounds a little extreme. A Ball round having equal penetration to a dedicated AP round with a Tungsten core? The A1 is a good round but it isn't that good. On the other hand, it is possible the 7N39 underperforms somewhat, but even then it should still perform better due to to its dedicated AP design.
