I live in Maine. I find it funny how Augusta, our state's capitol, is the tenth largest city and has been decreasing in population for years. They should move the Capitol to Portland or Bangor, but the process in doing so is too complex to really attempt, especially with our state's budget.
@elgeorge4372 жыл бұрын
You think that’s bad, in Kentucky, Frankfort is the capital, but it has 32k people. Only reason is because they couldn’t decide between Lexington and Louisville, so they put it in between 🙄 (personally it should’ve been Lexington imo)
@moddable69212 жыл бұрын
@@elgeorge437 My uncle lives in Hopkinsville right near the military base, and I have a friend who lives in Louisville. I personally think choosing one city or the other would have been a better choice than putting it in the middle of nowhere. You'd think a lot of States would pick the place that makes most sense for a Capitol, especially sparsely populated ones. Nevada chose Carson City (a ways west of Reno), and it also has a low population. You'd think they'd just choose Reno or Vegas.

Cool video! It’s interesting how some of the largest cities in certain states are cities I’ve never even heard of. Fun fact: New York’s second largest city is Buffalo, but the second largest municipality is actually Hempstead which has over twice the number of people as Buffalo.
@dougadkins7006Ай бұрын
I can't explain it in detail, but Hempstead is made up of 22 villages and 38 hamlets. If incorporated as one city, it would be the second largest city/town in the state of NY. According to the US Census, Hempstead (historically known as South Hempstead) has 59,000 people. I guess you can compare it to London. London is a city (all boroughs included) is close to 9 million people, but the city of London (one borough) is a few thousand people.

Yeah, I gotta admit that while Houston is bigger than Dallas and Ft Worth combined, I think the DFW SMA is slightly bigger than the Houston SMA. And Austin which is looking bigger is very small compared to the major metro SMA's. Former enemies, Houston and Dallas, are teaming up to but upstart Austin in its place. The Texas Central Railway will prevail against the plague. It has only one stop between the cities, Bryan/College Station. We have the Aggies on our side. We will prevail. Oh wait, the Aggies....

We know that the Top 4 largest cities are in Chicagoland. The 2nd three are satellite cities of Chicago, not suburbs. However, not only the core city of the metro area have suburbs, but the satellite cities also have suburbs too. For example: In Greater Los Angeles, Long Beach, CA is a satellite of L.A. and it's nearby suburbs are Lakewood, Compton, Paramount and Bellflower just to name a few.

It infuriates me living in a mid size Chicago suburb to realize I’d be living in a top 5 city in over 1/3 of states. How tf is Wyoming or Vermont a state? California has about 60 or 70 times more people but still gets the same Senate representation! Why is someone in Wyoming deserving of 60 times stronger representation than someone in California?
@painless4652 жыл бұрын
Because we are not a Democracy. We are a constitutional republic. The USA would have never formed if large states could completely bully small ones
@dalestone315220 күн бұрын
You do know how the house of representatives works right? Theres a reason California has 52 representatives and Wyoming only has 1. The Senate was created to combat states like California from ALWAYS having more power than states like Wyoming, which is fair. In reality the only thing the Senate can do is approve treaties with foreign nations, and vote in impeachment trials. The house of representatives is obviously the more important branch of government. So I’m not sure why the existence of lesser populated states infuriates you when they’re not represented as heavily and don’t have nearly as significant of a say in creating laws or passing bills😂
