Meat shrinks by about 25% in weight after cooking. So your 16oz steak ra will be a 12oz steak cooked. You're not losing anything steaks are always advertised at their raw weight
@bd80247
@bd80247 9 ай бұрын
Yeah pretty funny they were all so upset about that. I thought it was common knowledge that weights in things like steaks, burgers, etc… are all the weight before cooking.

3 things wrong here... 1: Fix the subtitles, they're whacked and as a deaf guy I rely on them. 2: The weight on meat is done before cooking. 3: The weighing of portions was a little unfair cos the UK had paper covering the food vs the big chunky plastic containers that the US had!
@vidurbutalia2130
@vidurbutalia2130 9 ай бұрын
Hopefully they tare the scale with the container on, that’s pretty basic; then again, the fact that they didn’t know meat loses weight in cooking suggests they might not.
@Rebeccaaa_00
@Rebeccaaa_00 9 ай бұрын
your third point is wrong because they tare the container weight before adding the food onto the container. That’s why the container was there without anything before they added the meat instead of them immediately adding the meat in the container already. So the weighting wasn’t unfair.

1:45 There is almost _certainly_ a disclaimer somewhere on the menu that says the weight of the steak is pre-cook. Depending on the cut (and ribeye _is_ fatty) I could absolutely see a steak of that sort losing 4oz of weight or more as it cooks. Generally speaking, beef shrinks about 25% when cooked, so losing 4 oz off of a 16oz cut is. . .bang on. EXACTLY a quarter of the original weight has been lost during cooking.
@TakisEnjoyer
@TakisEnjoyer 9 ай бұрын
Still it's so weird to put this weight there instead of the one we'll get. Like nice to know how much it used to weigh, but that's now what I'm getting.
@eyespliced
@eyespliced 9 ай бұрын
@@TakisEnjoyer Not really. They can't exactly control the amount of fat or moisture each individual piece of meat contains, and even if cooked in identical conditions, it is almost impossible to calculate accurately what something will weigh after cooking. WHat they can control is pre cook weight to the decimal, which allows restaurants to place specific and accurate orders when getting deliveries of fresh food. As far as I've always known, the weight of freshly cooked meats is always based on pre cook weight, not post cook unless it's in a deli setting where everything is already cooked or cured for the most part.
@ddiimmaa123
@ddiimmaa123 9 ай бұрын
@@eyespliced then put a disclaimer that the post-cooked weight may vary. Makes much more sense than outlining a pre-cooked weight which is meaningless
@eyespliced
@eyespliced 9 ай бұрын
@@ddiimmaa123 *MOST RESTAURANTS DO EXACTLY THAT.* Literally, that is exactly what I'm saying. If you go into a mcdonalds, there will be text that says the weight of their burgers etc is based on pre cook weight. It is also to be expected. IF you order a 12oz ribeye, I can guarantee they are weighing it at 12oz before they cook it, knowing that it will lose at least 2-3 or more ounces of weight during the cooing process. This is _basic_ stuff.

Props to the UK team forngiving away as much food as they can. Also worth a note that the US takeaway is almost exclusively in plastic, while the UK is only using cardboard, which is a common theme here.

I noticed she weighed most of her items in the plastic whilst Harry removed some (like the dessert for example), its a minor difference i know but its kind of still a weird oversight on their end to have one weighed in packaging and the other without (though some items like the Nachos was both done in packaging but Harrys was paper and Nico's was plastic).

I have been to several Hard Rock Cafes, the first was Las Vegas back in tge late 90s. I have even stopped at a few on road trips where that was the only stop made in that city. I used to collect the shot glasses, as they are very unique, but after almost my entire collection was stolen, I switched to magnets. Much more portable and less likely to break.

@@Mrsolpjh I can't really say I have a favorite. I think I've been to the gift shop only more times than I've eaten there. The food has been good at all the locations I ate at, and the atmosphere is pretty much the same. The only thing that would stand out is the time I spent in some if the cities I was in. Those would be New Orleans and Orlando (when I visited Universal). The first one I visited was in Las Vegas, but that was in the late 90s, which was before they moved to the strip.

Reason for the cost at the NY location(Times Square specifically). 1 it’s NYC 2 it’s Times Square, so it’s one of the more expensive areas to eat because it’s a huge tourist spot alone. The location is on the main drag(Where the ball drops area). 3 A few years ago, on the news, there was a story of a “special gratuity tax” at many Times Square Restaurants. I think they mentioned Ruby Tuesday’s at the time too. It was very hidden and most did not realize it. There is a chance this “special gratuity tax” is still there, though I thought they got rid of it. So it can be 1 or more of these reasons why that burger costs a ridiculous amount! As a local, I’m very aware of these prices usually, but also realize it’s nice to have the experience of actually eating in TS, watching the lights, and people watching. However, there are way cheaper places to do that even in Times Square, or in regular restaurants, only a few blocks walk away ;) Local ✌️🗽
