US WWII Transport ship Walkthrough - SS Jeremiah O'Brien - Liberty type

Video walking around on the SS Jeremiah O'Brien.
The SS Jeremiah O'Brien is one of two remaining fully functional Liberty ships of the 2,710 built and launched during World War II. The O'Brien has the distinction of being the last unaltered Liberty ship and remains historically accurate. Moored at Pier 45, Fisherman's Wharf, she is a premier San Francisco attraction.

That engine room is immaculate. The rest of the ship is looking strong as well but the engine room is better than the day she was built. Great job.

Thanks for the video. The first boat my uncle served on was a Liberty ship in the 1970s I think.

My grandfather ( T.R.M.) served on this vessel during the invasion he was finishing his schooling & comission at Kings Point 🦅🦅🦅🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

@@BecksHobbyProductions What burns me up is there were over 2,700 built and only two seaworthy examples are left. It's the same for most Warbirds and almost borders on criminal.

You did, sort of... The decent into the engine room is where the boilers are, but they are oil fired, not coal so no 'stoking'. BTW that is me operating the winches.

@@BecksHobbyProductions The O'Brien has not had any visitors since mid March due to Covid restrictions which means she has not had any income yet expenses continue. The recent fire at Pier 45 where she was berthed did damage the ship. The glass in five portholes were cracked, Most of the lines were charred and have to be replaced and the heat of the fire blistered a lot of the paint causing it to bubble and flake off. All that water sprayed on the ship was salt water and now there is a large rust problem. We are doing all we can to save her but the future is cloudy for the time being.

I've seen her on a Bay Cruise that I took 17 years ago in the spring. The Jeremiah O'Brien is seen adjacent to the USS Pampanito submarine. Isn't she beautiful?
