I will never forget this for opposite reasons (you saying 5 or 6 in the morning betrays you as an American) :D I watched this match at home, with two colleagues from school (we were 13, so is that US Junior High?), and my mid 70's grandma, who knew nothing about football (if you watched the match you know that in the Eastern side of the Atlantic we call soccer football). Portugal was clearly favourite for this match, and for the group. 13 year old me thought there was no way this would not end in very one sided match in favour of Portugal. We would win by 5 or 6, we thought... 20 years later, and I am still wondering what happened. It seemed like every US goal was a textbook case of "everything that can go wrong in a football match". We believed, until the final whistle, that we could at least get a draw out of it. No luck. The US won. I love the US for saving the world from tyranny in the 1940s, but I will never forgive you for this. :D Portugal is extremely unlucky when it is in the same group as the US. The same happened in 2014. I guess if the US is drawn in the same group as Portugal, you can start planning your trip to the last 16 stage. lol

Funny, I'm older, and had to work. Recorded the game, avoided any discussion of it, get in my car and tune the radio to a country station, figuring zero chance they are covering the WC, within 20 secs the dj said the score..so bitter sweet not to see it unfold.
