USA and EUROPEAN drifters disagree politely at the race track

‪@DriftJesus‬ and ‪@LoneStarDrift‬ politely disagree about most things they talk about in drifting, but that is what makes conversations interesting. I love hearing about what makes Wout Young tick, how he decides to build drift cars, and other stuff. His answers are always the opposite of my thought process, so I love listening to him and thinking about the way his brain works. If I like fuel injection, he likes carburetors. If one thing, he likes something different. And that is what makes drifting a lovely sport, there is no right answer to anything, and drifting is completely upended constantly.

He hit the nail on the head at 19:00 mark. There's a lot people that will look at my sim and say, I could go buy a real car drift it for that kind if money. So you're telling me that 2,300$ is going to cover the car, parts to make it driftable, lifetime supply of tires, event fees, repair cost? Whereas, whatever i spend on my sim is the bottom line. Plus it gives me a greater value out each dollar spent drifting my real life car.

Idk, I’ve been driving RWD cars for 16 years and raced them before. All I needed was setup the car for drift and start drifting and teaching myself by watching Japanese drifters drift as fast as techniques and style goes. Not a fan of USA style drifting. After an event I had it down then it’s just throwing harder and harder and faster while keeping to a fast race line

@@d1zguy864 I totally get what you saying. But my point was the cost to go drifting. If you're in a low hp car or you're just starting out, yes it won't cost as much but, it still cost money. Unless you're just messing around in a parking lot lol. I guess the point was making was more directed to the people who don't factor other cost factors. Like buying a tuner version of a supercharger kit. Sure it's a couple thousand cheaper from a full kit. But now you still gotta buy everything else that makes it work. So that 5k dollar supercharger ended up being close to a 6,500 dollar kit

Most of you think the interview with this guy had a negative vibe, too much complaining, or general criticsm but I want LoneStarDrift to know this was the "Perfect Interview". I've never heard of this guy but he told so many truth's the drift community watching these vids agree on. How frustrating things have become wether it's electric car, automatics, fake personas, advertisment, falls suspension info, overpriced parts from japan, overrated countries, niche drift styles, empty promises and so on. I love the part he said somethings are better to not just do them if you gonna half ass them like the monaco carbon boat anology. Too many people think buying a cheap BMW, Miata and welding the diff while leaving everything OEM is 90% done. Especiall those who don't even own a stick welder (No DIY skills) and leave in a flat with a nagging girlfriend (No place to fix simple things) and his perfect sunday is a car meet 1 tyre fire (AdamC style vids). He is wrong about certain things like the F&F movies, the stereotype is always delayed, they portrayed stuff that happened 10 years ago. Bad body kits such as Barry Boys on a shitty Saxo/Renault 5/Corsa/Mk3 Escort/ happened already in the 90's which is why the Supra, Skyline, Civics in the movie had such horrible kits and paint schemes to combine the popularity of those cars with the tuning car scene. People in the 00's were already going with the Euro look with the deep dish wheels and clean lines, M-tech/ S-line kits aka Stance Works. But regardless he explained very well the past and the present. EV is not going anywhere, there was E36 EV drift car on youtube 15 years ago and it hasn't gotten anywhere. Hoonigans invited a guy with Electric AE86 I think it was and that has gotten nowhere. I hope you read this and make Part 2 interview with this guy using the same concept of throwing words. He kinda reminds me of the attitutde of Luke Fink (australian drifter)

Thanks for your reply! I may sound negative but the facts are on the table. In 2020 all EU events got cancelled and its still not happening end of 2021. There are clear structural reasons for that. Sadly.

Very well said man. He's also talking about F&F effected the scene in Europe, it was COMPLETELY different here in Australia but there were some universal truths in what he said here about that Era I personally LOVE all that stuff, I was in my 20's back then building Show Cars, going to all the events (AutoSalon etc), was an absolute blast. Am currently building a replica of my favourite Show Car from back then just for nostalgia, would love it if certain aspects of it came back but I think that ship has sailed

Drifting in Holland was dead long before Wout came along. None of the Dutch really seem to have done anything about it. Meanwhile in England, at a grass roots level you can go drifting every week if you aren’t a venue snob. That pretty much summaries the difference between Japan and the west too. The number of times i’ve heard people complain about a lack of circuits… while I watched guys like Yokoi become world class, practicing a U turn. It is what you make it. That said, he’s right about the climate interventions 😬

@DriftJesus 2 жыл бұрын
S54 is way more different from a 330i engine than S55 is from N54. I don't hate - hate them, much prefer them to almost any newish other car out there, but some M engines are a little more M than others. After the E60 M5 they lean heavily on the already existing base model engine & displacement. I still think M engines should be N/A, BMW comes up with all the emissions talk but other manufacturers like Porsche and Ferrari still make N/A motors on performance applications. So yes, its partly a watered down / cost saving measure. And I think that's not right for an M Model.

i completely agree with alot of what was said by wout i want to go drifting im 20 small job buying all new parts arent feasible for me but fabrication is a recent thing i enjoy im not gonna try and be a brandon but ill play to my strengths and manage my weaknesses ,2. governments need to be smart mandating electric cars when they cant be supported is dumb and begging for a uprising when shit goes wrong. 3 everything in this world is objective and based on perspective im gonna say it i hate when people dont look at both perspectives when trying to screw the world over cars are now the most polluting thing in the world and numbers run the world whatever happened to when cars were about being cars and not numbers i was there for the tail end of that time and looked backwards into it and i loved those days . sorry about the rant but i had to say it

This is a guy who is willing to accept defeat. In Australia the government and local council has tried to kill drifting but the hardcore drifters still keep hanging on. There arent many people joining the sport but the scene isnt dead.

Trust me, it isn't easy for me and its not in my nature to run. That's why I haven't moved already. But its clear to see which general direction we're going in Europe and that democracy doesn't exist anymore. Whilst trade deals are made to make import of throw away junk from countries that pollute the most and have one million people in camps, countries that remove black actors from Marvel posters, countries that don't respect workers right , privacy or copyright, whilst local businesses are being hit with more rules, costs and limitations, its clear to see that staying makes no sense. Australia was one of the few countries that stood up against that country, and look what reaction they received. As far as drifting, my friend Luke Fink keeps fighting the good fight along with many others, but for how long? He's constantly facing new challenges against his track, and a very absurd national situation since 2020>.

USA and European drifting is boring to look at. Very slow transitions and initiations. Use of ebrake to initiate. Japanese drifting is the best one fast aggressive flicks minimal ebrake use just used to maintain angle when tandeming or to extend the glide

Haha thanks. I read the news in a few different sources because a lot is going on back home. Sadly in this situation looking away isn't possible, many people did , didn't vote, or didn't protest, and now we have an unelected group of 70+ rich white people telling us which car to drive , shower less, and stay in our home after 9pm whilst they fly around the world in private jets to spread that message. My life is perfectly fine and I feel blessed, but those things shouldn't stand. We can't look away.

@@DriftJesus i really get where you're coming from but this is a really oldhead doomer way of seeing things... i am from central europe and the thing that fucked drifting as it is today here is the cov... drifting without the pandemic was on a serious comeup bigger brands are recognising drifting there were huge events planned with great media coverage and it was all cancelled... also there isnt enough promotion of the sport locally if we had more local influencers promoting it bringing more money into the sport there would be more events... also more people would try it bc amateur motorsport is just not mainstream... enviromental legistlation wont mess with hobbies just yet the problem is not that right now...

If mainstream drifting made an effort to make itself more sustainable and lessen the negative impact on the environment it would help extend it’s life. I know I personally have been having a hard time justifying burning petroleum and rubber with no concern or effort to not be so irresponsible. If we can’t be cleaner and smarter than we don’t deserve to play like children while stealing that opportunity from the next generation and Mother Earth.

There is almost no potential for anything in EU. There is pretty much no potential for anything new. Pain to run a big business, pain to run a street legal drift car, but super easy to get government funding for a LGBT activist movement during Corona Crisis. American drifting is amazing!

@@DriftJesus Again, you are confusing the netherlands, one of the smallest countries in the EU with The whole of "Europe". It may be happening to the 17.5 million dutch but its not happening to almost anyone else. Not the germans, not the french, not the spanish and not the italian, for example. Neither germans nor Luxembourguish have to pay anything when a car is not registered (which most "racecars" aren't). So no, it's not correct information about Europe.
