The $1.2 trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is the largest investment in America’s physical public assets in decades and the biggest commitment ever by the government of the USA to fight climate change.
The bill expands the Buy America requirement for infrastructure materials, which will boost the American manufacturing sector and industries like steel production.
Its core is an expansion of the 5-year transportation infrastructure law known as the FAST Act, passed in 2015.
45% of Americans lack access to public transportation and for every $1b spent on transit, 50,000 jobs are created. This bill will provide the largest investment in public transit in American history.
Almost 40K people died in motor vehicle-related incidents in 2019, and unsafe road infrastructure is a major risk factor for these fatalities.
On top of traditional infrastructure spending, the bill invests an unprecedented $550 billion over five years on dozens of innovative new programs.
The bill builds out a national network of 500,000 electric car (EV) chargers to ease range anxiety and accelerate the switchover from gasoline to electric.
$500m to electrifying school buses, $5b for zero-emission public transit buses, and $2.5b toward electrifying the many ferries on our extensive waterways.
To make sure these vehicles are powered by renewable electricity, the bill makes the largest investment in the energy grid in American history. Hundreds of substations and thousands of miles of new high-voltage transmission lines will bring green electricity to cities as wind and solar are now the lowest-cost sources of electricity.
With 45,000 bridges in poor condition throughout the country, a new program will oversee $40b for repairs and rebuilds.
The largest investment in Amtrak's history will modernize the passenger rail network for our transportation and economic future.
Airport and port delays jeopardize over 1 million jobs. The bill will fund repairs, improve logistics, reduce congestion, and increase electrification to reduce emissions.
More than 30 million Americans live in areas with no high-speed internet infrastructure and are still suffering seconds-long waits to load pages and constant video buffering-or they have to go to a library or restaurant just to get something done.
This historic investment will guarantee that every American has reliable broadband internet access.
10 million households and 400,000 schools lack access to safe drinking water. The Biden administration detailed its plan to try to replace every underground drinking water pipe in the country in the next ten years. About half of the children in the US have detectable levels of lead in their blood.
In 2021, 20 weather disasters of $1b each 688 people no alive. To build resilience to extreme weather, $71b on:
Flood mitigation and waterway management by the Army Corps of Engineers;
Water storage, recycling, and ecosystem restoration to help California and other western states deal with drought.
Wildfire fighting like clearing dry brush and trees fuel blazes.

The infrastructure program on paper looks very promising however execution and assurance that no wasteful spending is my biggest concern along with corruption. Seeing this much money being spent on infrastructure will also play a role in our economy hopefully all of my concerns will be alleviated and my positive hopes realized.

That sounds about right. As a bit of a train nerd I can tell you that $90 billion for nebulous "public transit" spending and $66 billion for Amtrak sounds promising but when you take into consideration how neglected America's railways are it's not nearly enough. Amtrak has individual upgrade programs that it wants that cost more than $66 billion, so it's obviously not solving any of those problems, and these projects take a decade or more to build because of how bloated America's bureaucracy and political system is with corruption. Add to that the fact that the bill "provides the largest investment in public transit in American history" but very few specific projects are named and things get pretty suspicious. There's no reason to believe state and local politicians won't blow it all on gadgetbahn in exchange for kickbacks or use it to widen already overbuild highways under the premise it'll provide space for buses.

@@SimonNZ6969 though corruption and wasteful spending rampant we the citizens have to show concern of where the money is being spent and not aimlessly, billions and trillions of dollars spent correctly can reshape this country and jump start the economy from the inflation laden moment that we are now, this would force job growth economic and massive hiring the likes of which we have not seen in decades.

I share your concern, not necessarily on corruption so much as on inefficiency. I didn't get a chance to get into it in this video, but the bill has a significant amount of reporting and oversight requirements for the agencies in their distribution of these funds to help minimize waste and fraud. Also, Biden and his right hand man (current Chief of Staff Ron Klain) were in charge of the '09 stimulus (Recovery Act) and they got it done with record low levels of waste...more on this in my next video.

Heard the adage about not putting your all your eggs into one basket? The same concept applies to managing your investments. Diversification essentially means allocating your investment dollars strategically among different assets and asset categories to help manage risk. Here are three ways to do it. 1.Spread your risk 2. Diversify across asset classes 3. Diversify within asset classes

@TDC_TheDocumentaryChannel
@TDC_TheDocumentaryChannel 2 жыл бұрын
I understand your confusion because I too was confused until I dug into it. The media and dems did a terrible job explaining this. Half of the funding is reauthorizing the five-year transportation plan known as the FAST Act (which is itself a big deal instead of 1-year funding bills as it allows localities to plan and budget for bigger projects), but also beefing its spending up by +50%. That is all new spending, but into programs that were already created so people don't consider them "new" per say. The rest is all new programs, so a lot of money is being invested in a short amount of time. I'll explore this in-depth in my next video.

Thanks for your comment. I was reading a lot of critiques on this in my research and did some math that I'll be laying out in an upcoming video, but basically ~100x more miles were travelled on roads than on transit in the US in 2019 before the pandemic--so getting the funding ratio down to 4-1 in roads-to-transit seems a fairly balanced win for transit. Also, with electric vehicles of all sizes soon on these roads, I think the case for an even more drastic shift toward transit is weakened (obviously, though, people should use transit whenever feasible).

In the USA you think you can produce even more electricity with solar but i think you need to focus more into other renewable sources of electricity production. Currently you need coal and gas power plants to produce electricity at night when solar is at 0. Solar panels also doesn't produce electricity when it's cloudy, rainy and such. I think you should focus more into building hydro storages/dams and nuclear power plants to produce electricity when needed not dependent on weather.

500 million for school busses divided by 500.000 school busses means a whopping 1000$ for a bus. WOW! that's absolutely how much that'd cost. Bridge funding would at most fix 4000 bridges in the whole of the US. But it has 46,154 bridges that are structurally deficient... again: WOW!
@TDC_TheDocumentaryChannel
@TDC_TheDocumentaryChannel 2 жыл бұрын
The $5 billion investment in clean transit buses will also help create these markets. The bill doesn't need to pay to replace every diesel bus on the road. It simply needs to lower the costs of electric vehicles enough to be cost-competitive, or better, then the market will take over. On bridges, I agree that on paper it doesn't seem like enough, but "structurally deficient" doesn't mean the whole bridge needs to be torn down and replaced. Many just need retrofits that cost a fraction of a new build while extending their lifespan by decades. Plus, federal money isn't meant to cover the entire cost of many of these bridges, as state and counties have plenty in their budgets to do most of these repairs, they just need a little extra incentive to undertake the project. This bill more than does that.

Second point: With the largest infrastructure investment since Eisenhower’s federal highway program, why no national fanfare? We have been told zippo since this bill has been passed. One would expect Pete’s face to be on television announcing one program after the next, unfortunately not so. The proof is in the pudding, tells me government graft will pocket most of this money. 😡

@@neeljavia2965 In the US travel by rail is most used by commuters that are traveling from their homes in the suburbs to their job in the city. In most metropolitan areas the local rail system normally out competes Amtrak for this commuter service. For long distance travel, its a slow way to go, and not very popular. Also, the Amtrak organization has shown that it is not a good investment in their waste and inability to stay competitive. The $66B will just keep them alive fr a few more years. @chickentoucher55
@chickentoucher55 2 жыл бұрын
this is nice and all but how much is this actually going to help the climate the truth is it wont having some ev buses and using public transport wont do anything the USA only produces 13% of greenhouse gas emissions. Climate Change has been completely over feared by the public we are not going extinct in 12 years. the best way i think to get out of the "crisis" is to let developing countries developing bring more and more people out of poverty which then increases overall education levels substantially which will then boost technological advancement even faster which means better and faster advancements in climate technology which then fixes the issue. the wrong thing to do is slow progress and go to socialism which would destroy humanity into depression. the answer is continuing to use capitalism to bring humanity away from poverty and have a richer more prosperous world.

@@TDC_TheDocumentaryChannel Okay. 1. You said that 40,000 roads deaths are contributable to roads not being maintained. This is not true. The deaths are contributable to poor road design like wide lanes and fast speeds. Repairing potholes does not fix this. I would look up the KZfaq channel Not Just Bikes on safe road design. 2. You said that EV adoption is hindered by the charging network. This is not true. EV adoption is hindered by one thing: battery supply. Tesla produces most of the EVs in the US and they sell every single one they make. They are production constrained, and have been for 10 years. Adding more chargers does not increase adoption, because there are not enough vehicles to adopt. 3. You didn't mention how the suburbanization of the US makes infrastructure must more costly and less efficient. This bill may help today but this problem will just continue. There is too much infrastructure per person for our economy to maintain because of terrible zoning laws. Single family homes and cars have destroyed this country, and nobody even realizes it. Lastly, I apologize for the rude comment. It's not constructive to word things so negatively. It is frustrating though to have well respected, high quality channels like yours spreading myths.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment, Matt. 1. I think both of our statements can be true. And thanks for the channel recommendation. 2. I pulled the map showing gaps in 50+ kW EV chargers from PlugShare this week. www.plugshare.com/ There are towns and even small cities all over the country at least an hour away from a charger that can juice up an EV in under an hour. 3. If you're interested, I covered how urban design and transit cut emissions in my interview with policy expert Robbie Orvis from a year ago here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ms6DfrSl2trehYE.html Thanks again for engaging constructively.
